I Have A Baby From My Ex-Husband's Enemy-Chapter 132: I Hope I Can’t Take Your Pain, My Baby
It turned out that Carmelia’s fever was not getting any better. The little girl continued to feel feverish and for four days her body temperature continued to rise and fall, making Carmelia feel painful and continue to cry.
Odelia had used various methods to reduce her daughter’s fever, but it didn’t seem to work at all. Eventually her temperature would rise again.
She and Sean had taken turns to look after Carmelia every night because she kept crying when she woke up. Odelia was worried too because Sean had to stay up when he had to go to work in the morning.
Megan also tried to help calm her niece down without, moreover, feeling so worried.
"Mommy my head hurts!" Carmelia said while crying and snuzzle into her mother’s chest.
"Yes dear, Mommy knows. I wish I could take away your pain, but I can’t." Her tears were flowing because of the worry she felt.
Sean finally decided to take their daughter to the hospital, for fear of something worse happening than just a simple fever. He had heard that young children can get infections that cause them to run a high fever, and that was very dangerous for their daughter.
"I’ll hold Carmelia while you take her dress." Sean held their daughter, while Odelia put some of Carmelia’s clothes into a bag.
After all the preparations were completed, they immediately went to the hospital where they were attended to by the medical team when they arrived.
Carmelia cried as she was laid on the hospital bed, even though she really wanted her mother.
"Mommy! Mommy!" she kept calling out asking to be near Odelia.
"Mommy is here! Don’t worry dear, I’m here for you!" replied Odelia who was standing behind the nurse who was taking care of her daughter.
She couldn’t get any closer for fear of disturbing the nurses and doctors who were examining the little girl. She could only watch as she cried and Sean put his arm around her shoulder trying to calm her down.
"She will be treated soon, you don’t need to cry because I’m sure the doctor can cure her," he said while rubbing his wife’s shoulder.
She nodded her head as she leaned back against his shoulder and watched as the medical team helped Carmelia.
"She’ll be fine, right? She looks so scared, she wants me to be next to her," said Odelia who was very worried even though she herself could see her daughter in front of her.
"She’ll be fine, you don’t need to worry about that too much, do you understand?"
Until after 15 minutes of treatment, Carmelia calmed down a little after an IV was attached to her hand. Although she had previously thrown a tantrum due to fear and pain when the needle pierced her tiny hand.
"Fortunately, there is no indication of infection in your daughter. Miss Carmelia only has a high fever, due to her low immunity. I think it will take 2 to 3 days for her to be in the hospital and we will check on her regularly. Whether she gets better or not," explained the doctor which made Odelia and Sean feel calmer.
Carmelia was laid down in the VIP room after Sean had taken care of the room administration for their daughter. It was noticeable that she was staring at her parents with a weak gaze, and her face still looked pale.
"Mom... Dad..." she called in a weak voice, trying to reach her parents at her bedside.
She looked scared as the IV tube was attached to her hand but he gently touched the little girl’s hand.
"It’s okay baby, mom and dad are here. You don’t have to be afraid of the needle because it will make you feel better," Sean said trying to teach his daughter not to be afraid of the IV.
He rubbed her head gently, kissing her forehead with a feeling so painful seeing how his favorite daughter lay limp because of the fever she felt.
"Don’t cry, everything will be fine," he whispered.
"Mommy is here, we’ll keep you company dear. You don’t have to be afraid," Odelia said, soothing their daughter.
Carmelia nodded her head, slowly falling asleep as she felt exhausted after crying and her parents’ gentle touch.
Seeing how their daughter finally felt calmer, Sean and Odelia also felt the same and they could breathe a sigh of relief at this.
Carmelia finally seemed to be able to fall asleep more soundly and was not delirious due to her fever.
"Finally she can sleep, I was very worried because since yesterday Camelia couldn’t sleep well and maybe that’s why her fever didn’t get better," he said with a smile on his tired face too.
Both Sean and Odelia were exhausted from staying awake for several days to calm Carmelia down. They didn’t even stop to take turns holding her, so that the little girl would feel calmer.
"You’re right, it feels better to see her like this. Maybe it’s time now for us to rest for a while until Carmelia wakes up too."
He invited Odelia to sit on the sofa not far from the bed and leaned back for a moment to close his eyes. It was 9pm and fortunately the hospital worked well at that hour of the night.
Odelia leaned against her husband’s shoulder while Sean rested his head against Odelia’s head. They both finally fell asleep exhausted but they didn’t feel upset because it was for the sake of the child they loved so much.
Carmelia’s presence was their happiness after all, and seeing how their happiness was in pain made them feel the same pain.
Her crying made their hearts hurt so much, and they didn’t want to see that any longer. They hoped Carmelia would get better soon and be able to go back to laughing and running around the house like she used to.
Right in the middle of the night, Carmelia woke up because she felt thirsty and the girl looked around for her parents.
When she saw her parents asleep sitting on the sofa, she immediately called out to them.
"Mommy! Mommy water!" she called whenever she felt thirsty.
Carmelia’s call woke them up and Odelia went straight to her with a bottle of water.
She also changed Carmelia’s clothes which were wet from her sweat and then went back to patting her lightly on the chest to put her back to sleep. However, Carmelia didn’t want to sleep and she asked for something to eat.
"Hungry! I want to eat!" she asked while holding her stomach.
"Are you hungry? I didn’t have time to bring any snacks." Odelia was in a hurry to take Carmelia’s dress without thinking of bringing any snacks for her.
"Hungry!" said the girl again with a sad face.
"Then I’ll buy something from the cafeteria. There must be something still on sale there," said the father, rubbing his daughter’s head and walking out of the hospital room towards the cafeteria.
*****
By morning, Carmelia was in a better state than before. She seemed a little calmer and no longer cried after the doctor gave her the medicine that was injected directly into her.
She didn’t want to eat anything other than breastmilk, but now she had started to eat other foods again, even if only a little.
Odelia and Sean felt quite relieved by this, and they only had to wait until Carmelia was fully recovered.
"Does your head still hurt?" Odelia asked her.
"Only a little!" she replied while drinking a glass of water.
"Thank goodness, I’m glad to hear that. Be a good girl then. I have to go to work, I’ll come back here after work," said Sean as he kissed Carmelia on the forehead because he had to go to work soon.
She kissed her father back on the cheek and then went back to watching the television that was on. Sean smiled and then left the room where his daughter was being treated to go home and prepare to go to the company.
When he was just coming out of the hospital, a woman saw him and she paused to watch Sean from afar. She wondered what Sean was doing in the hospital.
The man then took out his cell phone and called his secretary
"Ronald, I’m going to be a little late for the meeting today. Just prepare everything and when I arrive we can start right away."
"Did something happen Mr. Sean?"
"My daughter is hospitalized, so I’ve been here since last night and now I have to go home to get ready to go to the company. So it will probably take one to two hours until I can get there," Sean replied, which Ronald immediately understood.
He then left the hospital, leaving the woman who had been watching him to watch the man’s car drive away.
Meanwhile Odelia sat next to her daughter’s bed as she continued to keep her company watching television. She felt happy that Carmelia was doing better even though she had only been in the hospital for a few hours.
She felt that maybe it was the right decision to bring Carmelia to the hospital in the first place. However, she still felt worried because she was afraid that Carmelia would catch another virus in the hospital. Moreover, girls of her age are still very vulnerable and are sometimes not allowed to be in some places in the hospital.
"It’s good that you’re cheerful again, I’m sorry that I didn’t bring you here earlier when I should have done so that you could get better quickly," she said while rubbing Carmelia’s head.
She smiled at her mother although she still looked a little pale and a little weak but looked much better than before.
