Chapter 37: His New Experiences

Odelia and Sean entered Odelia’s childhood home. They climbed the stairs to the second floor, which was their home. In fact there were only two rooms that could be used as rooms, one bathroom and a small kitchen.

This was the first time Sean had come to a place like this, and he didn’t even know that there were people living on the second floor of a very small shop. But he didn’t really mind and still appreciated it, after all it was the house where his wife grew up.

"I’m sorry if our house is cramped, it’s just a shop that was converted into a place to live. Oh right, my name is Dasha," she said as she introduced herself and placed a cup of tea on the dining table.

"No problem, Mrs. Grace. I actually admire you. I heard from Odelia that you raised her and her brother alone in this place. You really are a strong woman, no wonder my wife can be so strong like you," Sean replied and drank his tea.

Dasha smiled when she heard that. She answered all for the sake of her children, if not her then who else would take care of them.

"Everything was helped by Odelia who is very smart, she was able to get a scholarship to pay her own tuition. She’s very hardworking."

"Mom, you don’t have to say things like that," said an embarrassed Odelia.

He chuckled and said what Dasha said was true. He was sure their daughter would be as smart and strong as Odelia. Dasha then said that they could rest in her room.

"Sam’s room only has a single bed, my room has a double bed for you two. So you can sleep in my room, I’ll sleep in Sam’s room. Since he is away for work," the woman explained.

Her eyes then went to her daughter and Sean’s hands that were clasped together, and looked at her as if she wanted to say something.

"Mom, we came here because we wanted to ask for your blessing."

"My blessing?" asked Dasha as she looked at them.

"Yes, Mrs. Grace. Odelia has made me the lucky man to marry her," Sean replied.

Dasha was silent for a moment, still thinking about what they had said, until she finally realized that Odelia had accepted Sean’s marriage proposal. They would get married for real after Odelia gave birth.

Knowing that, of course Dasha felt so happy because she saw how Odelia was very happy together with Sean at the moment.

"Of course, I approve of you two. Odelia has told me everything about you, and I feel very calm knowing that my daughter is now in good hands," she replied.

The first time Odelia explained her situation to her mother about Vincent’s family, her divorce and her pregnancy. She felt very worried and anxious, but when Odelia told her about Sean taking responsibility and taking good care of her, she felt calmer.

"Thank you, mom. I’m sure this time will be the last."

"Of course, you’ll be my legal wife and we’ll be together until we’re old and then we’ll die and be buried together," Sean said.

Odelia and Dasha chuckled when they heard that. They then chatted about Odelia and Sean’s wedding plans and other things. But she couldn’t stay too long because she had to serve the customers.

"You guys go rest in your rooms, we can talk about this again tonight," she said and then went down the stairs to her stall.

Seeing her mother leave, Odelia took Sean to her mother’s room, which was also her room. As there were only two rooms, he and his mother slept together in that room.

Upon entering the room, it was a small room with a thick mattress on the floor with no bed frame to support it.

"So this was my room since I was a kid, my mom and I slept together because we were girls. And here I used to do my homework, and oh those are my old schoolbooks," Odelia said, introducing the contents of her room to Sean.

"For 20 years, you slept here?" he asked, looking around the room.

"Sorry the room is so small, if you feel uncomfortable, we can stay at a hotel. There is a hotel not far from here," she said.

She actually felt a bit silly, thinking of a wealthy CEO like Sean coming and sleeping in her family home. It wasn’t that she was embarrassed, but their lives were very different. She was very worried that Sean would feel uncomfortable but he forced himself to be there for her.

"I’m fine, as long as I can use this mattress to sleep on," he replied and lay down on the mattress on the floor. "But can you get up from this mattress in your pregnant belly?"

It occurred to the ginger-haired woman that it would be difficult to get up from the mattress on the floor. She would have to use a lot of strength for that.

"That’s fine, I’ll help you to get up from the mattress. Now let’s rest for a while," said Sean who helped her lie down on the mattress.

They both slowly fell asleep from the exhaustion of the trip. Sean’s hands were wrapped around her body, protecting her and their baby from anything threatening while they were fast asleep.

In the evening after dinner, Sean went out for some fresh air. The noodle shop had been closed since the afternoon, so he sat on the bench in front of the shop and looked at the many shops that were still open around them.

Sean could see that some shops were still bustling with customers, some were deserted and others were closed. He realized that there were many people living on the second floor of their stores, judging by how the lights on the second floor were on after the stores were closed.

"That means there are many people living like that in this city. Though Mocoado is also a good country to be a place where people start their new life, though it is not comparable to Zondalian. But I guess it’s only in this town that they can see the social and economic differences," he muttered.

He then leaned back on the bench as he felt the evening breeze hit him. Sean sighed, these few days he felt calmer for not going to the company. But he knew that the work would pile up later.

"Better make her feel better first, I’ll have Ronald bring all those documents home, so I can work on them in my study while looking after Odelia."

As Sean was taking his time, the door to the shop opened and out came Dasha with a glass bottle in her hand.

"Oh Sean, there you are," she said.

"Yes, where are you going with that bottle, Mrs. Grace?"

"I’m going to the grocery store, I want to buy more soy sauce. I keep forgetting the name, so I’ll just bring the empty bottle," Dasha replied.

Seeing this, Sean offered to buy for her, occasionally helping his future mother-in-law. Dasha felt very helpful and said that her shop was at the end of the shopping alley. She gave Sean the money and the bottle and went back inside the house.

Sean looked at the money in his hand while holding the neck of the bottle in his other hand.

"$8.45? That’s pretty cheap for soy sauce like this."

When he was about to leave, he saw a man standing in front of him and looked at him sharply.

"Did you just rip off my mother’s money, you damn thug?!"
