I Have a Dice Left by a God-Chapter 456 - 48: The Clown
Amidst the cheers, a seductive beauty riding a giant white tiger emerged from the circus. Her long, white legs clamped onto the tiger’s back effortlessly, those legs longer than the sneaky clown’s lifespan behind her. The combination of beauty and beast was quite eye-catching.
The woman’s enticing voice rang out, "Welcome, esteemed guests of the Sun Circus, to the Sun Palace. I am Fannie, the circus owner. Today, we present an unbelievable series and our classic performances from the Sun Circus. First, let’s welcome the magical animals of the circus."
Fannie’s charismatic voice echoed throughout the venue. Faced with a sensuous and alluring female owner, suddenly the audience felt the ticket price wasn’t so high after all. Unbeknownst to them, a light mist began to fill the venue, accompanied by music. Trainers rode out animals dressed in stylish attire from the fog. Lions crossed with leaps and bounds, a bear tottered on a unicycle, and a beautiful snake tamer played a bent spoon. The two-headed snake twisted its body in dance with the snake tamer, making both person and snake appear equally enchanting.
The Taptan people are skilled in training beasts, adept with both ordinary and spirit beasts alike.
Beast trainers and monsters performed various high-difficulty acts. Amid the crowd, a short figure rushed towards the snake tamer lady, seemingly wanting to embrace her alluring waist. However, his direction was a bit off, ending up hugging the two-headed snake. The clown didn’t realize this and rubbed his face against the snake’s body, showing a look of extreme enjoyment. Suddenly seeing the snake tamer lady, he slowly turned his head. The snake’s two tongues were already darting in to lick him. Shocked, the clown’s limbs sprang open, trying to escape but still was licked, instantly stiffened as if petrified, with his protruding lower body exposed. At this moment, an elephant passing by stepped on him, but fortunately, the clown flipped over to narrowly avoid it. He couldn’t feel delighted for long before being picked up by the elephant’s trunk and thrown out.
Laughter erupted throughout the venue. Before the Grand Governor’s time, Dragon Capital was also popular with slave gladiators, man-beast battles. The Sun Circus from Taptan was different; they worship the Beast God, where humans and beasts coexist as partners and comrades in performance arts. Their lion and tiger fights, along with fire bull fighting, gained significant fame.
The exhilarating performances stirred waves of audience enthusiasm. Fire bull fighting involved lighting rings on the outside, with two bulls eyeing each other fiercely. The flames agitated the bulls further, making them posture just like human warriors. Their hides shimmering red, eyes gradually turning crimson, mouths constantly letting out angry roars. At the referee’s command, the two bulls launched into a charge; their presence akin to an army charging forth, making the entire Freedom Square tremble. As these mad bulls were bracing for impact, the clown somehow popped out again, swaggering into the fiery circle. Seeing the audience’s surprised shouts, mistaking them for cheers directed at him, the clown took off his red hat to bow gentlemanly. Then the ground shook, and the two bulls charged directly at him.
Lin Fei quickly covered Xueyin’s eyes, but Xueyin clung on to watch; she was raised in the Underground City, having seen all kinds of scenes, and her mother always made a fuss over nothing.
Soon, even more fervent cheers arose from the venue. The two bulls collided, groggily falling to the ground. Due to the clown’s short stature, when he crouched down hugging his head, he narrowly escaped a fatal hit, while the two bulls directly knocked themselves into a daze.
The clown, realizing this, stood up, straightened his chest, waved his hat proudly, looking at the bulls who were lying down almost as tall as him. Suddenly leaping into the air, intending to jump onto the bull’s body, he fell flat on his face after rising barely a centimeter from the ground, his hat flew onto the ground. In the air, a monkey swung on a rope, whistled past, snatched the hat, and made a face at the clown, who angrily chased the monkey, his short limbs in disarray amused the crowd into laughter.
"This circus does know a thing or two." Kathy remarked, noting the details—when the bulls collided, it seemed fierce, but in reality, they didn’t hit hard. These Taptan native bulls have thick-skinned hides, undeterred by ordinary swords.
The venue was filled with constant applause and cheers. The thrilling tension combined with the clown’s antics continuously stirred the audience’s emotions. Li Xin too watched with relish, as circus skills of this era were quite something. Every segment of their acts was well-layered, always arranging for the clown to disrupt the scene during overly thrilling moments to bring laughter. He could also sense that these animal performances, though seemingly dangerous, were quite deliberate, the beast tamers being quite adept... suddenly he remembered his home like the lazy Justin, he really should send him to the Sun Circus for training.
Following the grand animal parade came various acrobatics shows. The sensuous woman walked on a tightrope, bemoaned by the following unlucky clown. Of course, there might be those from the Canon Law School or Knight Order saying the difficulty was low, but the issue was they wouldn’t perform it to amuse the masses either. All the actions were arranged for show effects, even Li Xin gradually became drawn to their performances, which didn’t wind down until evening.
Finally, the Sun Circus’s owner Fannie and Flying Bird Daily’s editor-in-chief Lev appeared. The editor was a slightly greasy middle-aged man in a black tuxedo with a bow tie, feeling triumphant and adjusting his glasses proudly.
"Everyone, since the Sun Circus came to the Li Long United Kingdom, Flying Bird Daily has been a tremendous help. Therefore, after each performance, we will add a live Q&A segment, where Mr. Lev, the editor-in-chief, can choose any performer from the circus for an interview," Fannie announced.
"Thanks to Mrs. Fannie and her Sun Circus for bringing us thrilling shows and joy. Our Flying Bird Daily collected reader responses from the last two issues, so this time still interviewing the clown Tommy," Lev said.
Fannie smiled stepping back, as the spotlight aimed aside. Originally lying on the ground, the depressed clown instantly sprang up like a fish out of water, although seeming to strain his back, holding it while feigning elegance, "It’s me, it’s me, I’m here, I know it’s always me!"
"Tommy, it’s said you consider yourself the most handsome, most charming man in Dragon Capital," a Flying Bird Daily reporter asked while trying hard not to laugh, "After your interview was published, many readers wrote in, curious about why someone as handsome as you is still single. What are your expectations for your better half?"
The entire audience stared at the clown who’d been kicked around numerous times.
The clown held his waist, "Naturally for a dashing and stalwart guy like me, being unmarried is expected. My standards aren’t high, she should be beautiful, graceful with noble lineage, at least a Countess, taller than me, where the guy is handsome and the woman has wealth. It’d be perfect if she bought Freedom Square for me, making me the circus owner. Oh, and she should be a graduate from the Canon Law School, better if from the Divine Revelation Canon Law School."
Saying so, he started counting on his fingers, face showing an exaggerated grin.
"Tommy, the indestructible Tommy, good luck to you." Lev, already feeling the ominous atmosphere, left swiftly with surprising speed for his build; soon after, a flurry of rotten eggs, tomatoes, and small stones were thrown at him.
This was a featured act of the Sun Circus—clown bashing.
The show ended at seven in the evening, the quartet thoroughly enjoyed themselves, returning home by carriage, while Xueyin babbled away ceaselessly during the ride. All the exciting acts were mere outlines, yet the segments involving the clown left a deeper impression.
"Lu Shuai and Huerta are also at Serenity Canon Law School, you’re familiar with them. If there’s anything you don’t understand, just ask them; I won’t interfere," Kathy advised on the way back, "No rush about the task, take your time, and stay safe."
"Sister Kathy, I’m a pro at investigations," Li Xin responded.
