In Another World, Everyone Want to Kill Me!-Chapter 56: Race Against the Storm
Remembering how tired Shang Qinghua had looked when he fell asleep here before, he realized something.
Beneath the title and the power of the feared Prince Shang, this man must have carried his own share of exhaustion.
For the first time, he saw not just a prince, but a man who lived under constant strain.
By the time Yue Mingxuan came back to his senses, Shang Qinghua had already left.
...
The next two days passed quickly like flowing water.
True to his word, Shang Qinghua had Mo Yi deliver the required herbs for detoxification.
Yue Mingxuan carefully sorted them, placing each one into a small wooden box and keeping it close to him.
He didn’t even know why he guarded the herbs so carefully maybe because he knew that these herbs were tied directly to Shang Qinghua’s life.
Soon, the third day arrived.
Yue Mingxuan had been waiting since dawn.
Everything was ready except for one last thing.
All they needed now was the Emberveil Herb from Mo Yi.
Once that arrived, they could begin removing the poison.
Sitting by the table, Yue Mingxuan carefully checked the herbs in the wooden box one more time.
The sun had already climbed high into the sky, but Mo Yi still hadn’t appeared.
A trace of worry started to build in his chest.
Just then, the window creaked open and Mo Yi climbed inside.
His hair was messy and his eyes bloodshot.
It was clear he hadn’t slept properly for days while searching for the herbs.
"General Mo," Yue Mingxuan asked quickly, "did you bring the Emberveil Herb?"
"Your Highness, I..." Mo Yi dropped to his knees with a loud thud. His voice trembled with guilt as he bowed deeply, his forehead hitting the floor hard. "I’ve failed you. I couldn’t find the Emberveil Herb you asked for. I don’t know if there’s a substitute... but please, Your Highness, please save our Prince’s life."
His words hit Yue Mingxuan like a wave of ice cold water.
Only one herb was missing but without it, the detoxification could still work... though it would almost certainly kill the patient.
Knowing Shang Qinghua’s personality, he would choose to take the risk anyway.
But Yue Mingxuan couldn’t let him throw his life away.
As he looked at the blood dripping from Mo Yi’s forehead, frustration churned inside him.
Suddenly, a thought flashed in his mind. Its a memory when he’s in the back mountain slope he’d once visited.
The soil and shade there had seemed perfect for growing Emberveil Herb.
It was a faint hope, but it was still hope.
A dying horse must be treated as if it can still live, he thought to himself.
Yue Mingxuan stood up quickly. "General Mo, get up. I just remembered, there might be some Emberveil Herb on the back mountain. I’m not sure if it’s the rare type we need, but I’ll go check it myself."
Hearing that, Mo Yi’s tired eyes suddenly lit up with determination. "I’ll go with you and protect you, Your Highness."
"That’s not necessary," Yue Mingxuan said while gathering the tools and baskets he would need for picking herbs. "The back mountain is part of the royal forbidden grounds. If too many people go, we’ll only draw attention. You go back and keep Prince Shang calm. Tell him I haven’t returned from gathering herbs yet."
Mo Yi didn’t argue further.
He simply bowed his head deeply again, his forehead touching the floor once more before quietly stepping aside.
Yue Mingxuan climbed up the back mountain with practiced ease and moving quickly toward the area where he remembered the Emberveil Herb grew.
From time to time, he reached into his medicine pouch, making sure the small wooden box inside was still safe.
The wind grew stronger and the sky turned dark and heavy.
It seems a storm was about to break.
But instead of fear, Yue Mingxuan felt a spark of excitement.
The Emberveil Herb that contains cold element is extremely rare herb. It’s looked no different from ordinary herbs under normal weather, but during thunderstorms, it would glow faintly with a yellow light.
"This must be heaven helping me," he thought, silently cheering himself on.
From a distance, the patch of Emberveil Herb swayed beautifully in the gusting wind.
A sudden bolt of lightning cracked across the sky, followed by thunder so loud it made the mountain tremble.
Yue Mingxuan quickly covered his ears.
The roar seemed to explode right beside him, echoing in his head.
"That scared me to death..." he muttered while patting his chest to calm his racing heart.
His ears were still ringing, but he pressed forward, refusing to stop.
Soon, he reached the field of Emberveil Herb.
Standing at the edge, he waited patiently for the next flash of lightning to show him which plant was the cold variety he needed.
Meanwhile, back in the capital, Shang Qinghua’s face darkened as he listened to Mo Yi’s report. "You’re saying Yue Mingxuan hasn’t returned from gathering herbs?"
"Yes, my lord," Mo Yi replied nervously.
Remembering Yue Mingxuan’s order to keep it secret, he lied but the guilt showed in his eyes.
A sharp burst of inner energy shot through the air.
Mo Yi fell to his knees with blood spilling from the corner of his mouth.
His lie had been seen through instantly.
Unable to speak in his defense, he stayed on the floor, trembling.
"Speak! Where did he go?" Shang Qinghua’s voice was icy cold, like a death god from the deepest part of hell.
Clenching his teeth, Mo Yi only said, "Your servant... does not know."
Shang Qinghua stared down at him, suspicion and anger swirling in his mind.
"You have followed me for twenty years and now you dare to deceive me?"
Another bolt of lightning illuminated the room, casting harsh shadows over both master and servant.
Outside, the heavy rain poured down like sheets of silver, drenching the world.
At that moment, the door opened and Gu Xiang entered the room quickly. "My lord," she reported, "I just received word, the back mountain of the royal grounds was struck by lightning. It’s the rainy season and a mudslide has occurred. We don’t know if Prince Rong Qinglei is safe. Should I send someone to investigate?"
