Chapter 47: Shapeshifting Monster

As the door opened, he could clearly see the small wooden house only had one bedroom, one living room, and one bathroom. There was no kitchen or anything, but Aiden didn’t mind at all.

At least with this small wooden house, he could safely pass the night while helping Aurora to recover.

He immediately let Aurora lie down on the bed in the bedroom, the woman completely lost in sleep while the recovery process took place.

Aiden stretched his hand forward, sending his magic energy into Aurora’s body. There was no rejection from Aurora’s body, she accepted the magic energy well.

Night fell, the most tense moment in the village. Aiden stopped Aurora’s recovery activities when he heard mysterious sounds coming from outside the house.

Not one, but several people walking and calling his name. It was enough to make Aiden curious.

He pulled back the curtains and saw Leonora outside the house, pale-faced and seemingly cold.

"Aiden? Is that you?" Leonora asked, and Aiden widened his eyes.

"Mom?" he asked.

"Thank goodness it’s you. Can you open the door for me? I’m cold," Leonora asked.

"Byrone is in chaos, and your father and I escaped to Clovis. However, your father was wounded and killed in the forest," Leonora explained.

"I’m really sorry. I should have died," Leonora said.

Her face looked exactly the same, her features were the same, and even the way she spoke was identical.

Aiden certainly couldn’t let his mother shiver in the cold outside, let alone have monsters targeting humans.

Aiden moved his hand to touch the doorknob. When he was about to open it, Aiden’s reverie was interrupted when his hand was touched by someone.

"If you open that door, then we’ll all die," says a middle-aged man, who knows where the man came from.

Aiden gasped, then realized that he had almost made everyone in this small house die. The man closed the window curtains and locked the door, then invited Aiden to speak in the living room.

"Never trust the words of the people outside the house at nightfall. They’re not human," the man explained.

Aiden paused, then his eyes traveled to the middle-aged man’s side, where his left hand was severed and his sleeve swung freely.

"Your arm. Is it possible—"

"They cut off my arm when I tried to pull my wife and daughter from outside. However, I failed," the man replied, interrupting Aiden’s speech.

"With that failure, I don’t want you to do the same as me," he explained.

"What’s your name?" asked Aiden, curious.

"I’m Jacob. I’m a lumberjack," Jacob explained, as Aiden began to introduce himself and Aurora to Jacob.

Jacob nodded. He could see Aurora lying on the bed, normally it was where he rested. However, he didn’t mind if Aurora wanted to sleep there.

The man stepped to the back, opened a wooden cabinet and took out an old wine bottle. Jacob showed the bottle to Aiden, Aiden didn’t refuse -Liu Feng didn’t refuse.

"Where exactly did the monsters come from?" Aiden asked.

"No one knows. The mages from the capital came here once, but they failed to solve this problem," Jacob replied, pouring the old wine into Aiden’s wooden glass.

"Some say it came from the forest, others say it came from the mountains, or they even say it came from underground," Jacob said.

"Hmm... there’s no definitive answer on this," Aiden explained.

"That’s why we keep getting stuck in this situation, where life is difficult and freedom is impossible."

Aiden nodded, then he remembered his Eye of the Beast King ability. According to what he knew, monsters and things were a type of beast, though they were useless to control.

If they were indeed the beast class, then with the Eye of the Beast King ability, Aiden had a chance to control them and draw information from them.

"I think I know what to do," said Aiden, rising to his feet after downing the drink in his wooden cup.

"What do you mean?" asked Jacob, shocked.

"Can you go to the bedroom and protect Aurora. I need to do something with one of them," Aiden said.

Jacob wasn’t sure what Aiden was going to do, but seeing the confidence on his face, Jacob nodded and trusted Aiden with everything.

Following Aiden’s orders, Jacob went to his room and locked the door from the inside. Now, Aiden was left alone in the living room.

He stepped closer to the window while opening the curtains, seeing Leonora still there. Leonora smiled as she saw Aiden again.

"How was it? Are you going to let me in?" Leonora asked.

Aiden looked at her longingly, but once again he pointed out that she wasn’t his mother, it was a cruel monster using Aiden’s memories to kill him.

The young man took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. He unlocked the door which was immediately heard all the way to the room where Jacob and Aurora had taken cover.

"Hey! What are you doing? You’ll die if you open that door," Jacob explained.

"I’m not going to die," Aiden said softly.

He opened the door and allowed the monster disguised as Leonora to enter. After she entered, Aiden closed the door and stood exactly where it was, blocking the other monsters from coming in.

"Die!" Leonora shouted, transforming into a black monster with red eyes and sharp teeth.

[Magic Element: Thousand Fire Chains]

Aiden stretched his hand forward to summon chains of fire from the area around the monster.

He brought them up to shackle the monster, which Aiden would later use as his interrogation tool.

Slowly, the monster failed to escape and was completely shackled by the fire chain. Aiden smiled, asking Jacob to leave as the situation was safe.

"Let me go, you lowly human!" he snapped.

Jacob came out of the room and saw the black monster imprisoned in the shackles of the fire chain.

Jacob was completely shocked, even he had to step around to avoid the area near the monster.

"What is going on?" Jacob asked.

"I arrested it to interrogate it. That way, we can find out where these monsters came from," Aiden replied.

Jacob gasped with a shocked look on his face, "Huh? Interrogate it? But how?"
