Aiden’s eyes seemed to glow crimson red, Jacob saw it obviously with a shocked heart.

Aiden’s eyes and the monster’s eyes were connected to each other, so Aiden would be able to control the beast easily.

Control of the beast was now fully in Aiden’s hands. Aiden stepped forward, the black monster no longer acting aggressively.

"Tell me, how can you change your form into someone we know?" Aiden asked.

"We have the ability to absorb memories. With it, I can take some of your memories and manifest them into someone important," the monster replied.

"So that’s how you lure people into leaving the house at night."

Aiden walked back, looked out the window of the house again and saw that there were several people wandering around outside.

"Why are there so many of you? Where is your lair? Are there other monsters who command you?" Aiden asked.

"There are about 180 of us, we attacked two villages around here," the monster replied.

"And then? What about your lair?" asked Aiden.

"There’s a cave in that mountain, I can’t explain it in detail as it’s too complicated," the monster replied.

"What could it be?" asked Jacob, drawing Aiden’s attention to look at him.

"Do you know any?" asked Aiden, Jacob nodded.

Jacob explained that he and the villagers had flocked to the forest and mountains to track down their lair.

They had closed all the caves without exception, but there was one cave that was difficult for them to close.

The reason the cave was difficult to close was because of the strong magical energy and poisonous air.

Some of the villagers were injured and sick just before they managed to close the cave.

"What are the characteristics of the cave?" asked Aiden.

"It has a large cave door and a disgusting black slime. That’s the place," Jacob replied.

Aiden threw that explanation at the black monster, asking with certainty if the cave was a lair for shapeshifting monsters.

In a low voice, the black monster nodded. It was where they rested and ate their catch.

Jacob couldn’t hold back his anger. He kept his hands clenched in frustration as he wished he could kill the monster before him with his own hands.

Aiden glanced at Jacob, his face flushed with eyebrows raised in anger. Aiden stepped closer to the man while trying to calm him down.

"Don’t! You have no ability to defeat it," Aiden explained.

"I want to kill it! It killed my family!" Jacob snapped, trying to break free.

"Stop!" said a woman, from the direction of the room which caused the whole place to froze.

Jacob froze, the black monster also froze. Aiden saw the phenomenon that happened, he thought Aurora had woken up.

Sure enough! He turned his head towards the open door of the room and saw Aurora already awake. She strode gracefully with a face full of anger, staring intently ahead.

"Aurora?" greeted Aiden.

"Are they bothering you, Aiden?" asked Aurora.

Aiden stepped up to her, asking what her condition was. Aurora responded with a nod, she was fine after sleeping and recovering her body.

"Jacob is a resident of this house, just like us. He’s not a threat," Aiden replied, pointing behind him at the frozen black monster.

"That monster. It’s bothering me," Aiden said.

"Then let me just destroy it."

The young man held Aurora back. It was very difficult to capture the black monster, let alone interrogate it.

This time, Aiden had the opportunity to do so, and he thought killing the monster would lose his chance.

"Release them and let me interrogate the monster. I need to know a few things about it," Aiden explained.

Aurora turned to look at Aiden, as if questioning his statement. Aiden stared at Aurora with conviction, leaving the girl no choice but to follow him.

"Alright."

With a gesture of clenched hands, the ice that froze Jacob and the black monster shattered into small falling pieces.

Jacob fell to his knees, able to breathe again after being freed from the death shackles. He didn’t expect that Aiden and Aurora were such skilled mages.

The black monster was also freed from the icy shackles at last. Aiden stepped before it again, asking about the monster controlling them.

"Village Chief," the monster replied.

"What? It can’t be, the village chief is the one who cares the most about the villagers," Jacob explained.

"It’s probably just his way of behaving, there’s a reason why the Village Chief would do that," Aiden replied.

"This monster must be lying. You can’t believe it," Jacob said.

Aiden glanced sharply at Jacob, seeing that the man was doubting his abilities.

"It’s trapped in my beast’s control. How could it be lying?" Aiden asked.

"What were the orders the Village Chief gave you?" asked Aiden, sternly.

"He told us to kill anyone who wanders around at night," replied the monster.

"Are you done?" asked Aurora, approaching Aiden.

The young man was silent for a moment as he continued to stare ahead, intimidating the black monster. Aiden cleared his throat and nodded, telling Aurora that he was done with it.

Aurora pointed at the black monster, freezing it in a block of ice and crushing it into small pieces of ice.

The black monster died and the situation in the small house returned to normal. Aiden walked to the window of the house, continuing to look outside.

Jacob was still reluctant to believe that the Village Chief was the one behind the murder of the villagers at night.

He believed that the Village Chief was just a scapegoat for the black monster.

"Don’t you believe in what that monster said. It’s a monster, we humans should kill it, not believe it," Jacob replied.

"If I don’t believe it, then who should I believe?" asked Aiden, glancing over sharply.

"If you want to end this terror, then the only way is to interrogate the village chief," Aiden replied.

Aurora stepped closer to Aiden, telling him that she had recovered and was ready to help him no matter the situation.

Aiden nodded, smiling as he gently rubbed Aurora’s cheek, "Sure. You can help me."

"What are you gonna do?" Jacob asked.

"If it’s true that the village chief is the one controlling the monsters, then the monsters won’t kill the village chief if I throw him out of the house, right?" asked Aiden, trying to play logic with Jacob.

"That might be true, but—"

"That’s enough. You just watch and see, then make up your own mind."
