Chapter 50: The Old Necromancer

"You! Get away from him!" Aiden commanded.

They turned their heads, then looked again at the village chief. To Aiden’s surprise, they chose to stand in front of the old man to protect him.

"I won’t let you kill him!" insisted the chief’s son.

Not only him, but all of the old man’s family members did the same. Aiden shook his head, there was something wrong with them.

[Magic Element: Fire Arrows]

Undaunted by their stubbornness, Aiden again brought up the five fire arrows above his hand.

Aurora smiled with a grin, assisting Aiden by manifesting the three ice swords floating behind his back.

"You choose his life over the lives of hundreds of villagers? They’ve been haunted by this monster’s terror for years and you don’t think it’s important?!" snapped Aiden, suddenly heard by the entire village.

"Oh, so you did it?!" another villager shouted.

"You killed my son, Village Chief!"

"You and your family are far worse than those monsters!"

"Let me help you kill them."

Aiden’s furious shout was heard by everyone, including Jacob.

Jacob could only gape in disbelief at what was happening in the village. His son and wife were dead because of an order from the old man, the village chief.

The village chief couldn’t do much, all the villagers had turned against him. Now, he had no choice but to kill Aiden and Aurora, then put the entire village in eternal fear.

"You ruined everything!" the old man shouted, pounding his wooden staff into the ground.

From the pounding of the wooden staff, hundreds of undead in horrific conditions emerged. Aiden squinted, not expecting the village chief to be a mage.

"What is this?" asked Aiden, not knowing about the old man’s abilities. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Unlike the black monsters, the undead had the ability to enter houses by smashing doors or breaking windows.

That night became the most frightening night in the village, with women and children running from their homes to evacuate to nearby villages.

Jacob came out of the house and shouted to all the villagers, "Pack your things! Let’s get out of here!"

Aiden spotted Jacob in the middle of the village’s main street, his screams attracting enough undead attention. Quickly, Aiden sent one of his fire arrows towards Jacob to protect him.

"Thank you, Aiden. I misjudged you," Jacob replied.

"Keep that for later. You lead the villagers to leave!" commanded Aiden, Jacob nodded in response.

Hundreds of people left their homes to join Jacob in going to the next village. Aiden turned to the side, asking Aurora to do something to help him.

"Go and help the villagers evacuate," Aiden ordered.

"But I want to stay here to help you," Aurora explained, refusing with a frown.

Aiden smiled faintly, his hand grasping Aurora’s white and lithe one, "By helping them, it’s the same as easing my burden."

The woman continued to stare at Aiden attentively, feeling that Aiden was slowly starting to put trust in Aurora to do something.

Aurora thought that was good, as it showed that Aiden believed in her abilities. In the end, the woman would carry out the orders given to her.

"Alright. I’ll just protect them from the undead," Aurora explained.

She flew away from the front of the village chief’s residence to arrive at the village’s main street, seeing Jacob and dozens of villagers escaping the undead’s pursuit.

Aurora swung her hand down, creating a huge wall of ice that was able to block the undead. Aurora landed just above the main street of the village.

"Do we need to help you?" Jacob asked.

"Get out of here, humans! You’re just bothering me!" snapped Aurora with a glower on her face.

Jacob gasped, then ran away from the village. Aurora looked ahead and saw the undead walking around the wall, much to her annoyance.

"Damn! You are really annoying," Aurora complained.

She shot her ice sword forward, cutting the undead’s bodies into two pieces. Even so, their separated body parts could still move as if they had their own consciousness.

Elsewhere, Aiden replaced his magic with another, more powerful one.

Fighting the village chief, who was a mage, meant that the fire arrow attack would have no significant effect on him.

[Magic Element: Flaming Spear!]

From the fire arrow above Aiden’s hand, he condensed his magic energy into a flaming spear. It shocked and frightened the village chief’s family members.

"You’ve been protecting the person who caused the chaos in this village. The villagers cannot forgive you!" Aiden snapped.

Aiden darted forward quickly, ignoring the family members with his main purpose of attacking the village chief.

With his magic staff, the old man managed to block Aiden’s flaming spear attack.

There was an explosion accompanied by a strong gust of wind. The force of the gust of wind was able to push people away from the battle.

"Haha! You’ve got skills, boy!" the old man scolded.

Aiden gasped, trying to hit the man with physical attacks. Again, his punches and kicks were blocked by the old man.

"What the—"

"You won’t be able to defeat me, boy!" he snapped, pushing back hard with magic.

Aiden’s body bounced all the way into the village chief’s house, destroying the furniture inside. Aiden was so curious about the old man’s mage tier, was it higher than his?

Not wanting to give up early, Aiden summoned his fire arrow magic again. He flew those fire arrows with the intention of hurting the old man.

Again, he managed to dodge the fire arrows one by one, even though his body was not very agile when dodging.

Aiden looked at the area around him, there wasn’t a single black monster attacking him. Instead, they were silent and seemed to be watching the fire arrows.

"Is it possible?"

"I already told you, you won’t be able to hurt me!" declared the old man, smiling with his eyes glowing red.

The young man gripped his spear tightly, not responding to the man before him.

With a powerful swing of his arm, Aiden spun his spear around, sending a scythe of blazing fire into the surrounding area.

The black monsters were hit by the fiery scythe. One after another, they died in the flames until they turned to ash, leaving only their beast essence behind.

The village chief’s family members lay on the ground when they saw the attack, the red scythe attack was capable of cutting through anything, even the house walls.

"Wh-What is that power?" the chief’s son asked.

Aiden smiled as the red glow in the chief’s eyes began to fade. Aiden’s guess had been correct about why the old man had been able to dodge every single one of his fire arrow attacks.

"Wh-What happened? What happened to my eyes?" the old man asked.

"You control the monsters. In this battle, you control their eyes," Aiden explained.

"With all the black monsters surrounding us, you have the advantage of dealing with your blind spot," Aiden replied.

"H-How did you know about that?" the old man asked, panicked.

The young man grasped his flaming spear again, then threw it forward with such force that it created a trail of fire magic on the ground.

PIERCE!

The spear was difficult for the old man to dodge, causing a gaping hole in his stomach, bleeding profusely.

The village chief fell and convulsed. Aiden reached out his hand to recapture his flaming spear.

"That’s the price you have to pay for the atrocities you’ve done!"
