Infinite Dragon Beast: Taming Ice Dragons with SSS Ranked Talent-Chapter 51: The End of Night Terror
Aiden stepped forward, heading to the old man who lay dying on the ground. There was no hope for him to survive, the wound on his stomach was fatal and impossible to recover from.
"Father!" a man shouted from behind, moving closer to the Village Chief’s body.
He turned around, pointing his spear at the man, making him stop in his steps.
"Don’t come any closer!" threatened Aiden.
"What the hell are you? You killed my father, how can I stand by?!" he snapped.
"You want to fight me?" Aiden asked, challenging them.
They looked frightened, for despite Aiden’s terrifying strength, none of the chief’s family members were good at martial arts or magic.
Slowly, all the black monsters ran away from the village after knowing their master was dead. Thousands of undead collapsed and crumbled into ashes.
Aurora watched the scene, then smiled broadly when she realized Aiden had been able to stop the terror.
"Aiden must have killed that old man."
In a flash, Aurora flew from the village border to the village center. When she arrived, she saw Aiden threatening the village chief’s family members.
"If you can’t kill them, then let me do it!" Aurora declared.
The woman landed firmly on the ground, next to Aiden. Aurora’s arrival, along with a strong gust of wind, didn’t startle Aiden. Instead, he still pointed his spear forward.
Aurora did not hesitate to show her power to those who dared to challenge Aiden and support the village chief’s atrocities.
From the woman’s hand, she brought out sharp ice spikes ready to stab them all in the body.
"Stop right there," someone explained.
Aiden glanced to the side, sensing a magical aura coming towards him. In response, the man tapped Aurora lightly on the shoulder while deactivating his fire spear magic.
"What’s wrong?" asked Aurora, unaware that she was too focused on the village chief’s family.
"Someone’s coming."
Sure enough! Three persons came to the village center in their yellow uniforms, two men and one woman. They were envoy mages from the magic academy in the Clovis Kingdom.
"We received a report from Jacob that there was a magic battle happening here," explained a man, 25 years old and in the Peak Acolyte mage tier.
Aiden nodded, as Aurora realized that Aiden had deactivated his magic. That made the woman relax and undo her intention to kill them.
The other man walked over to the dead body of the village chief, examining it thoroughly. The woman stood in front of all the family members, as if seeking information from them.
"He’s dead," the man behind Aiden replied.
"Bring the body, we need to investigate," ordered the other man, the leader of the small squad.
The woman finished talking to them. She appeared to be performing simple magic to erase their memories and knock them out.
"The information is same. They also admitted that it was all his doing," explained the woman, approaching the squad leader.
He nodded in acceptance of all the information from his two teammates. His head seemed to wander around the area, seeing that there were many dead bodies of villagers falling down because of this tragedy.
With this many casualties, it was a shame the three of them hadn’t arrived earlier. But the death of the terror mastermind was a refreshing relief for the village.
"I don’t know how you found out the mastermind of the terror in this village, but thanks to you, I’m sure this shapeshifting monster terror will be over," he explained.
"I only sensed the oddity. I’m not as good as you and your friends," Aiden said.
"You’re too humble. Do you have any other information about this monster?"
Aiden glanced to the side, Aurora responded with a nod, fully trusting all of Aiden’s decisions.
He turned around and pointed at the mountain beyond the forest. Aiden said that there was a cave lair for these monsters there.
"The terror may be over because the one who commanded them is dead, but the monsters are still a threat to the villagers," Aiden explained.
"I don’t know the exact location. You can ask Jacob to take you there."
The man and his two teammates looked in the direction Aiden was pointing, then they responded by simply nodding.
It was valuable enough information for them to take down the monster and eliminate this terror forever.
"In that case, do you want anything? Like a reward perhaps, since you helped us," the man replied.
Aiden looked at the surrounding area, there were beast essences of black monsters that hadn’t been taken, dozens of them and they might be useful to Aiden.
"There’s no need. I’ll just take those beast essences and leave," Aiden explained.
The young man stretched his hand forward, gathering about 69 beast essences with his mind control. The man before Aiden was shocked to see that ability.
’What? A mind control ability?’ the man asked, shocked.
Aiden received all the beast essences and put them directly into his magic pouch. Just as he received them, Aiden saw a notification panel appear before him.
[DING! Congratulations, you got the Item]
[+69 Beast Essence Lv. B]
[DING! Congratulations, you got +EXP]
[+1380 EXP]
[EXP: 6880/15000]
"Is that enough?" asked the man, confirming.
"More than enough."
When there was nothing more Aiden could do, he and Aurora said goodbye to them. However, their steps halted when the man called out to him again.
"You look to be new to Clovis," he replied.
He patted his magic pouch and handed over a white slip containing a digital map of the entire Clovis Kingdom. Aiden took the white slip and activated it.
"With your abilities, you can become a great mage or adventurer in the future," the man explained.
From the map he gave him, Aiden saw that the closest town to his current position was about 15 kilometers to the east. Now, Aiden had another destination after getting the map.
"Thank you."
Together with Aurora, he walked away from the place. The man had begun to conduct an inspection of the village, gathering evidence related to a certain villainous group.
In the direction of the village’s main street, Aiden saw Jacob and the rest of the villagers taking refuge in the neighboring village.
They stood and sat beside the road, as if waiting for someone.
Jacob turned around, saw Aiden and gave a loud cheer to the entire village. As a result, cheers and applause rose from them.
Aiden smiled, Aurora did the same. They didn’t expect praise or applause from them, he was doing this solely to defeat evil.
"Thank you, Sir Aiden. Without your protection, all of us could not have survived."
"If you need anything, feel free to drop by my place."
"You truly are our savior."
Jacob stepped forward, standing right in front of Aiden to make the young man stop his steps.
"You saved us all. Anviel Village will never forget your deeds," Jacob explained.
"I was doing what I had to do," Aiden said.
"We’ve agreed to appoint you as the new village chief. I’m sure you’ll—"
"I’m sorry, I can’t do that," Aiden interrupted, causing the situation to turn silent.
"Eh? Why? Don’t think about age, it’s about one’s capability," Jacob interjected.
"I have other purposes and my purpose is not Anviel Village. I hope you can understand," Aiden explained.
Jacob paused for a moment, then seemed to think hard about who the next village head should be. Aiden smiled, spontaneously pointing at the middle-aged man.
"You!"
"Huh? Me?" Jacob asked.
"You were the one who yelled at them to run away. You were also the one who protected them with Aurora," Aiden replied.
"That’s enough to prove your capability as the new village chief," said Aiden.
"What do you think, Aurora?" asked Aiden, asking for opinions.
"He’s weak!" snapped Aurora, acting coldly as she looked away, "But, as for bringing the whole village together, only he can do it."
’This woman,’ Aiden complained, shaking his head slightly.
The young man turned to the front, asking Jacob and the others for their approval of the new village chief.
"I have no problem with that. What Sir Aiden decides, we will fully obey," said several people.
In the end, they made up their minds and were ready to appoint Jacob as the new village chief.
Cheers rang out again, applause echoed in the place. Jacob had no choice but to accept the recommendation.
"You! Do you intend to put a burden on me, huh?" Jacob joked.
"Of course not. You can surely do it, Village Chief Jacob."
