Chapter 67: Runaway, Girl!

Aiden gaped, speechless. His mouth was completely agape realizing that Rachel had killed Jacob. Trying to recover him? That was absolutely impossible.

The young man grasped Rachel’s hand, leading her to leave the house immediately. This was really bad. By morning, the villagers would know that Jacob was dead.

It would not be good for the three to stay in Anveil Village. Right now, they had to leave immediately.

"W-Where are you taking me, Master?" asked Rachel.

"We’re leaving," Aiden explained, looking sharply to the side, "Then you’ll have to explain to me why you ate him."

Rachel fell silent, guilt-ridden over what had happened. Still, her instincts as a dragon could not be denied. It needed to eat, and its food was flesh and soul.

Aiden arrived at the small house. He hurriedly woke Aurora up and asked her to transform. Aurora, half-asleep, was naturally confused by that.

"Why all of a sudden? I’m sleepy, Aiden!"

"Hurry up and transform. If you don’t, they’ll kill us," Aiden said.

Aurora stretched her body, then nodded half-awake. She and Aiden stepped into the backyard, empty with no one around to see.

The icy blue light shimmered, dazzling Rachel’s eyes but not Aiden’s. In an instant, Aurora transformed completely into a sizable ice dragon, enough to carry Aiden and Rachel away.

Once on her back, Aurora floated away from the place. Yet, she didn’t know where they were going. She only knew Cain City.

"Go as far away from Anveil Village or Cain City as possible. I don’t want to be tracked by them," Aiden explained.

Aurora nodded. She changed her flight direction from heading towards Cain City, to the other direction.

Aiden opened his white slip, looking at the digital map the academy mage had given him the other day.

’That mage will interrogate a lot of people. Jacob’s death is really odd, he’ll judge if it was caused by a mage or a monster,’ Aiden explained.

’If they suspect me, they’ll hunt me down in Cain City. That city is no longer safe for me,’ Aiden said. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

On the digital map, Aiden saw that there were two cities closest to Cain. However, they would probably look for him all the way to that place as well.

The best option Aiden could do was to go to the farthest city. On the digital map, the farthest city was Alron City, located around 120km from Anviel Village.

Even so, Aiden didn’t know if Aurora could fly that far across a single kingdom. There was a certain power limit that made it difficult for her to fly long.

"Tell me if you can’t fly any further, Aurora," Aiden explained, to which Aurora responded with a brief nod of her head.

They continued to fly above the clouds with Aiden’s digital map. From that map, Aiden was able to pinpoint his location.

Rachel was still bowing her head. All of this was her doing, she couldn’t resist eating human flesh and souls.

Aiden looked over, not a word came out of the girl’s mouth. Perhaps, Rachel’s heart was in turmoil from being caught red-handed killing someone by her master.

That night, they continued to leave Anveil Village and Cain City to hide. Aiden only hoped that he and his two beasts would not encounter any trouble upon arriving at Alron City.

Six hours later.

Aurora was starting to feel tired, even though she was only halfway from Anveil Village. She turned her head, looking at Aiden intently.

’She must have reached her limit,’ Aiden explained.

’It’s still quite a distance to Alron City. It’s best if she rests in the nearest village,’ Aiden said.

Aiden asked Aurora to activate camouflage ice magic, making his dragon form invisible to commoners.

The camouflage magic worked, they landed in a forest without anyone noticing. Aurora transformed back, a bright ice-blue light flashing near Aiden.

Instantly, Aurora’s body lay limp on the ground, struggling to walk as usual. Near where they landed, there was a small village close to a large lake.

It was possible that by arriving at the village, Aiden could rest for the day while looking for a way to get to Alron City.

"Stay close to me, Rachel!" insisted Aiden, Rachel nodding.

Aiden carried Aurora in his arms, stepped out of the forest and walked on the village’s main street. It was 4 a.m., some of the villagers had gone out to go to the fields or fish in the lake.

Some villagers saw Aiden and Aurora. Occasionally, they asked about Aiden. He replied that he was just a wandering mage who had gotten lost in the forest and was looking for an inn.

Luckily, there was an old man who helped Aiden walk to the village inn. The place was still open, had two floors and 12 rooms. Aiden immediately booked a room with a large room size.

After paying and getting the key, Aiden stepped into the room and laid Aurora down on the large bed. Aiden lay exhausted as he adjusted the tempo of his breathing to steady himself.

’At least this village is far from Cain City and Anveil Village,’ Aiden explained.

Aiden glanced ahead, reaching out his hand to summon his magic. Rachel’s hands and feet were shackled by the fire energy, the girl was scared.

"Please don’t punish me, Master Aiden," Rachel said.

"That was quite a shock. I didn’t expect you to kill him," Aiden explained.

"Tell me? Why were you targeting him?" Aiden asked.

"It was ... because of the desire of the shadow dragon in my body. I can’t control it," Rachel replied.

Aiden was silent, continuing to stare intently at Rachel as if he needed an extra explanation from her.

"So then, your food is human flesh and soul?" asked Aiden, Rachel was silent.

The young man sighed, not knowing what to say since he had contracted Rachel to be one of his beasts. If he had to give humans to her, wasn’t that like killing them?

"Are you interested in the flesh or soul of monsters," Aiden explained, Rachel turned her face away, embarrassed to say so.

"Actually, the taste of humans is much better than monsters. Maybe, I’ll eat a monster that I think is delicious," Rachel said.

’Monsters that she finds delicious? Maybe monsters with levels A to SSS?" asked Aiden.

Aiden remembered the S-level beast essence he’d gotten. According to the explanation in the book, a beast’s essence was the soul core of the beast itself. Rachel might be interested in something like that.

He lightly patted his magic pouch and brought out the S-level beast essence in his hand. Aiden knew it! Rachel was interested.

Rachel’s face turned into a starving girl, her eyes rounded and continued to stare at the gem-like beast essence —but crimson red in color.

"Do you want it?" Aiden asked, and Rachel nodded.

Aiden held out the beast essence in his hand, letting Rachel absorb the soul stored within.

Slowly, the black aura figure from Rachel’s body appeared and completely sucked out the monster soul core within the beast essence.

The beast essence became empty, colorless, and broke apart. Rachel smiled widely in satisfaction.

"That’s the best," she said.

"So that’s it, with just a high level of beast essence, your appetite can be suppressed," Aiden replied.

"Looks like I know what to do."
