Chapter 68: Night of the Monster Hunt

***

Night.

Aurora stayed in bed for the whole day, recovering her body. It was different with Aiden and Rachel. They went to the forest to find food supplies for Rachel.

After learning that Rachel was interested in the flesh and soul of living things, Aiden became wary of her all the time.

He didn’t want Rachel to kill humans just because her appetite could not be controlled.

That’s why tonight, Aiden went to the forest with Rachel. They had heard from the villagers that the forest where Aiden went out was haunted, with monsters and wild animals wandering around.

To them, it was a dangerous and life-threatening place. But, it was different with Aiden. To him, the forest was like a treasure garden that could fulfill Rachel’s hunger.

[Magic Element: Fire Arrow]

On top of Aiden’s hand, he had brought forth a powerful fire arrow that could kill anything. Not only that, he also bound one of Rachel’s hands with his fire magic energy, preventing her from leaving his side.

The sound of roaring could be heard clearly in the forest, about 200m away from Aiden’s location. Aiden and Rachel stopped, watching the red-eyed dog monsters ahead, there were three of them.

"Let’s try with them," Aiden explained.

He shot his two fire arrows forward, controlled entirely by Aiden’s mind power.

The arrow’s fast, hard-to-dodge pace left the monsters dead with stab wounds and burns on their stomachs.

[DING! Congratulations, you got the item]

[EXP: 12390/15000] [+60 EXP]

Aiden looked to the front, seeing sparkling rocks on the ground. Aiden reached out his hand and took the beast’s essence in his hand.

"How about it?" asked Aiden, handing the beast essence to Rachel.

Again, Rachel absorbed the soul energy contained within the beast essence by using her darkness power. It felt worse than the S-level beast essence.

"I can still eat it, but it’s no better than before," Rachel explained, finishing absorbing the energy and making the three beast essences shatter and lose their light.

’Hmm, looks like I’ll have to look for a monster with a higher level,’ Aiden chimed in.

Based on the characteristics of monster levels, high-level monsters such as A, S, SS, and SSS levels sometimes chose to live alone and not in groups.

The lower-level monsters such as level C or B, on the other hand, spend more of their lives in groups.

With such differences, it was easy for Aiden to find them without having to see what their abilities and stats were like.

The two resumed their walk, going deeper into the forest. In the three hours they were there, Aiden managed to obtain many items and EXP after killing many monsters.

However, among them, only four monsters were level A, the rest were level B and C monsters.

In total, Aiden obtained 16 C-level beast essences, 9 B-level beast essences, and 4 A-level beast essences.

With this amount, at least Aiden managed to get +500 EXP, which consisted of +160 EXP for defeating C-level monsters, +180 EXP after defeating B-level monsters, and +160 EXP after defeating A-level monsters.

[DING! Congratulations, you got +EXP]

’Not only getting beast essence, but also getting +EXP after defeating them,’ Aiden explained. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

He turned his head, then started giving beast essence to Rachel, starting with C-level beast essence.

Aiden grasped the 16 C-level beast essences with both hands, Rachel hooked her black hair into her ears, then began to absorb the energy in the beast essences through the darkness power from her forehead.

Unlike before, the energy in the C-level beast essence was much less and bitter, easily depleted and destroyed so that it was not enough to fill her stomach.

’It seems that C-level beast essence is not favored by her,’ Aiden explained.

He patted his magic pouch and held 9 B-level beast essences in his hand, one-handed. Again, Rachel did the same until it completely stopped. She had consumed only 5 of the 9 B-level beast essences.

"I’m full," Rachel replied, feeling satisfied.

’Hmm, she was full after absorbing 16 C-level beast essences and 8 B-level beast essences. I should know what the exact amount would be if I gave her purely one level of beast essence,’ Aiden explained.

"Do you know how much beast essence you need at various levels?" asked Aiden, Rachel shook her head.

"I don’t know. But I can get full faster if I eat high-level beast essence," Rachel said.

That’s right! Aiden had previously given her S-level beast essence. Evidently, she could get full which lasted up to a day. But finding S-level beast essence was not easy.

’Maybe, she needs 5 A-level beast essences, or 10 B-level beast essences, or maybe 25 C-level beast essences for her to be completely full,’ Aiden explained.

Tonight, they decided to call it a day and return to their inn. The remaining beast essence in Aiden’s magic pouch would be used again if Rachel asked for food.

They left the forest and walked towards the inn. When they arrived at their room, he and Rachel were shocked to see Aurora already awake and sitting on the bed.

What was even more shocking was the dirty dishes piled up on the table, 10 of them in total. Aiden had completely forgotten, Aurora must be awake and she must be complaining about her hunger.

"Did you order them from room service?" Aiden asked.

"Of course, since you were away."

"Chicken’s pretty delicious too," Aurora said, starting to like chicken food.

Aiden smiled a little as he shook his head, he didn’t mind that as long as Aurora didn’t overdo it.

The white-haired girl gave Aiden a sharp look, then stood up and stepped closer to him while her right hand continued to hold the grilled chicken she was still eating.

"What are you both doing?" asked Aurora.

The girl fainted and fell asleep just before Aiden explained Rachel’s situation to her. Aiden thought there was no harm in him telling Aurora about what was happening with Rachel.

"I was looking for food for her," Aiden replied.

"Hmm, is that so? You’d eat if it wasn’t with me!" complained Aurora, misunderstanding Aiden’s words.

"N-Not like that, Sis Aurora. My food is—"

"I already knew that. You eat trash food. So, you don’t want me to see you eating trash, do you?" asked Aurora.

Rachel and Aiden stared at each other, Rachel trying to clarify Aurora’s perception, while Aiden tapped his forehead in confusion at Aurora’s way of thought.

’Oh my,’ Aiden complained, looking at the two dragons in human form still fighting and arguing.

’They’re not getting along very well.’
