Infinite Dragon Beast: Taming Ice Dragons with SSS Ranked Talent-Chapter 76: Black Monsters and Dragons
’Wasteland? So, that area with the red soil is the Wasteland?’ Aiden asked.
Without an exact map, Aiden had actually set foot in that place, a place that was said to be dangerous by most people.
According to Fiona, there were mutated monsters and dangerous toxins filling the air. However, what Aiden saw earlier was different from what Fiona had described.
"I don’t seem to have found anything but red soil and the village ruins," Aiden explained, still holding Aurora in his arms.
One of the villagers responded with a nod. He said that the village ruins were the entrance to the red land of the Wasteland.
According to myths and legends, the village had been destroyed by a great war in the past, killing all of its people and turning them into ashes.
"What was that war exactly?" asked Aiden.
"A war of humans against dragons!"
Aurora and Rachel were taken aback, Aiden was also surprised to hear it as it was his first time hearing such a story.
Little did they know, the white-haired girl Aiden was carrying was an ice dragon, and the black-haired girl beside him was none other than a shadow dragon.
In the past few days, Aiden had often heard stories about the war between dragons and humans, as well as the intense hostility between the two races. Aiden was really curious as to why the two races were hostile to each other.
Aurora and Rachel were different, though. Both of them grew up and learned with humans, so they could blend in just like any other human.
It would have been a different story if Aurora and Rachel had been raised in their dragon clan, perhaps they would have hated humans for the rest of their lives.
"Never mind, don’t listen to scary stories. It’ll be night soon, forest monsters will be on the prowl," the man replied, dismissing the huddled villagers as he took Aiden to one of the village inns.
Not only did he tell Aiden about the myth, the old man with the white beard and hunched body also explained about the mystical occurrences in the village.
"If you hear strange noises from outside, don’t pay attention. Never open a door or window for them," the old man explained.
Aiden squinted, his explanation was similar to what the people in Anveil Village had said. That made Aiden suspicious. Could it be that the terror of black monsters was also happening in this village?
"Let me guess, monsters can turn into humans. Am I right?" asked Aiden, the old man startled.
"How do you know?" the man asked, curious.
The man was silent. He couldn’t possibly tell him that he had dealt with a similar monster terror problem. That would make the villagers ask him and Aiden inevitably helped them.
The mission duration was only six days, helping the villagers deal with the black monster terror would be long and tiring.
Also, the village’s location in the middle of the forest would make it difficult for them to investigate.
"Just a lucky guess," Aiden explained.
They finally arrived at the best inn in the village, the only one still in business. The price for a night’s stay in one of the rooms was 3 bronze, much cheaper.
With such a low price, Aiden didn’t expect to get luxurious facilities. Sure enough! The door to the room opened, he saw a small room with a small bed, only enough for one.
He laid Aurora down on the bed as he told her to rest. If she wanted to eat something, she could go to the reception desk to order room service.
"Where are you going?" asked Aurora.
"We’re going outside. I haven’t gotten the beast essence for Rachel yet. I don’t want her wandering around and eating humans," Aiden explained.
"Let me help you guys too," Aurora asked, Aiden shaking his head.
He knew Aurora wasn’t in the best condition, her MP depleted from using transformation magic for so long. Aiden wanted Aurora to rest tonight and help them tomorrow in the Wasteland.
Aurora responded with a silent squint, then focused her eyes sideways at Rachel. She told Rachel to take care of Aiden. If Aiden returned home injured, then she would hit Rachel over the head.
"O-Of course. I will take care of Master Aiden," Rachel explained.
Aiden sighed and shook his head. He and Rachel said goodbye to Aurora, to which Aurora responded with a nod.
The night sky was filled with stars as the sun set. Aiden and Rachel stood right in the middle of the village’s main street, watching as the village turned as silent as a dead village.
The few villagers who hadn’t slept looked toward the village center. They were shocked and shouted from inside their houses, telling Aiden and Rachel to hide.
Just as Aiden had expected! He saw a black monster camouflaged as a pale-faced human stepping toward them from the forest.
Aiden and Rachel shared their backs, guarding their behinds. Rachel summoned dark magic energy in her hands, transforming into a black whip capable of cutting through anything.
The man behind Rachel raised fire arrows above his hands, five in number with eternal flames. Aiden moved one of his fire arrows to continue circling the two, guarding them from the black monster’s threat.
The two began to attack the monster without leaving their place. It was easy for Aiden to defeat them, let alone with his current level of magic.
Four fire arrows were shot forward with Aiden continuing to control them using his mind. One by one, the black monsters died with holes in their human heads, dropping the beast essence.
Rachel did the same, swinging her black whip through the monsters’ bodies. They might excel in camouflage as humans. But they were terrible at attacking enemies or defending against enemy attacks.
20 minutes later, Aiden noticed something in the middle of their attack. The black monsters walked backwards and turned around, as if leaving at a slow walk, paying no attention to Aiden or Rachel.
"What’s happening?" Aiden asked.
ROARRR! 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Aiden was startled to hear a loud dragon roar from the south, specifically from the Wasteland. The roar was loud due to the closeness of the Wasteland to the village.
About five minutes later, the dragon roar stopped. Aiden removed his hands from his ears, wondering about it.
"What was that exactly? Is it a dragon clan ruling the Wasteland?"
