Chapter 96: Fight For Stay

As night fell, the homeless man was still walking around the city as he was told. But it was different with Aiden. By now, Aiden had left Miresvoir to go to the border.

Luckily for him, none of the guards had seen him leave. They seemed to be busy with the affairs in the palace and put all their guard on the detection bracelet. From the bracelet, they still saw Aiden inside the city.

Rachel had emerged from Aiden’s consciousness. She walked with Aiden out of Miresvoir without being noticed by them, the gatekeepers. The hoods and robes they wore effectively prevented the guards from identifying them.

"How are you, Master Aiden?" asked Rachel.

There was a certain reason why Rachel asked that. During the time she had been in Aiden’s soul consciousness, she had seen what had happened. The moment Aiden’s hand was cut off by Aurora’s sword swing was quite shocking to Rachel.

"I’m fine. Thanks for asking," Aiden replied.

Rachel nodded with a smile, walking alongside Aiden from the side. The distance from Miresvoir Capital to the border didn’t seem too far. In a day or two, they would arrive there.

Since he had Rachel with him, Aiden had to keep his eyes open for possibilities. Tonight, they might realize Rachel’s disappearance from the Shadow Dragon Clan’s palace. The dragon warriors would go searching every place for Rachel’s whereabouts.

The three continued to walk without stopping along a dirt road that ran through a forest. Their attention was drawn to a luminous place filled with lamps. It was a small village with only a few villagers.

"Excuse me. Can I—"

"Are you human?" asked a man, from the Red Bear clan.

"Sorry, young man. Our village does not accept humans," he explained, firmly telling Aiden.

"B-But she and I are a—"

Aiden immediately smothered Rachel’s mouth to prevent her from continuing to speak. Revealing her true identity to anyone, including other people, would put them in danger. Before they left the Horald Kingdom, Rachel was not allowed to say anything about her.

"What are you?" the man asked, squinting.

"We’re humans. Look, we’re really human, right?" asked Aiden, removing his hood and the hoods of the two girls with him.

The bear man seemed to be staring intently, his eyes sharp as if he was watching them closely. Laughter erupted from his mouth as he pointed at Aiden.

"Haha! Without you telling us, we already understood. Go on," the man explained, looking unsuspecting.

Aiden was grateful that the bear man didn’t realize who they were. Aiden found that the excitement in Miresvoir had little impact on the places outside the city. The villagers didn’t even recognize Rachel, even though the dark-haired girl was in human form.

"Are there any villages that accept humans? We can’t go far if it’s late at night," Aiden replied.

"Hmm... I’ve seen a human stay at Lunon village. However, that was last year. You’d better go there to make sure," the bear man replied, Aiden nodding after knowing the route to Lunon village.

The three continued their journey into the night. Occasionally, Aiden glanced back to see if any of the capital’s soldiers had chased them to this place.

Since they were in a multiracial kingdom like Horald, the difference would be striking. They only needed to search by race, then they could reduce the search area. That would endanger Aiden and his two tamers.

"Shouldn’t we just go in dragon form?" asked Aurora, curious as to the exact reason why Aiden refused to go in Aurora’s dragon form.

"Rachel is a noble descendant of the Shadow Dragon Clan. They’ll do everything they can to find her," Aiden explained.

"Going on a dragon is a bad choice. They’ll spot us before we get to the Clovis Kingdom," Aiden replied.

"Hmm, to keep us protected, so we’ll blend in with the people of this kingdom and sneak out of the kingdom’s territory without them knowing. Am I right?" Rachel asked.

Aiden smiled, stroking Rachel’s hair while praising the quickness of her realization of the situation. What Rachel said was right, it was better to do it slowly while surviving than quickly but potentially dying.

Aurora finally understood and no longer asked questions. Before, the plans Aiden had made had always worked, never failing. This time, she was sure that this plan would definitely work out well.

After two hours of walking on the dirt forest road, they finally found the location of Lunon Village. Aiden was initially afraid that they would refuse humans to stay, but he was shocked to see that there were quite a few humans living in the village.

The three entered through the village gate, several people staring at them intently. One of the dwarves came and intercepted them, the dwarf came with two other dwarven men beside him.

"Do you want to stay here too?" asked the short man before Aiden.

"Yes!" said Aiden.

"How long?"

"Just one night."

The short man nodded. He called out to the humans who had a one-day stay in the village. One by one, they stepped up to the man and addressed him as the Great Elder.

"There’s a newcomer, human," the man explained.

"Is anyone ready to challenge him?" he asked again, surprising Aiden.

"Challenge?"

"Yes. For those humans who want to live here, then they must fight for the place. One house is only enough for one person," the man replied.

"Since there are three of you, all three of you will have to fight three of us," he said.

’This is crazy!" said Aiden.

Aiden was faced with a moment where he had to fight one of the 10 humans who approached him. These were the people who stayed overnight in the village.

The rules are simple, the one who wins gets to occupy the house. It’s more like a territorial battle than a regular fight.

"Do we have to win to the point of killing them?" asked Aurora, stretching her arms with a battle-ready face.

"You can kill them. But if they surrender, you can’t kill them," the man explained.

"How? Do you still want to stay?"

Aiden glanced briefly to the right and left, looking at Aurora and Rachel. Both girls nodded, ready to go one-on-one with them. If that was the rule, then Aiden couldn’t refuse.

"Alright. I agree!"
