Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System-Chapter 320: Where Did Memphis Go...?
"???"
"What is this all about, Corra??" asked the short black-haired woman. "We just got here! Why do we suddenly need to leave!? Just who was it that sent you that letter!??"
"Emma…" Corra murmured, her voice shaking. "Just trust me on this one; it has to do with the World's End Gate Raid. Things… are not as the government says…"
"What does that mean!? Will the World's End Gate Raid not succeed—"
"Emma!" Corra shouted, rocking her back and forth by her shoulders. "We must leave! This person—the one from my hometown—he wouldn't lie to me. He and my late father…they were good friends…"
"Corra…" Emma said emotionally. "Okay, I'll go. Just let me pack my things and inform the others. But if we go through with this… just how long will we need to stay in the bunker…?"
Corra's complexion turned ashen. "If what was stated in the letter is accurate, then we might only be gone for days. But in a worst-case scenario, it could turn out to be weeks, months, or even… years…"
"Well… damn… that's a hell of a bombshell you've put on me," Emma muttered, though her gaze hardened a moment later. "No matter! The bunker has enough supplies stashed away to last us years. We just need to gather ourselves and our personal things, and we're good to go! We can survive this nuclear war or whatever has you so on edge, haha…!"
'She said that as a joke…but it might actually turn into our reality,' Corra thought despairingly, her mind and expression becoming equally complicated.
"Come on, then!" Emma said, seemingly keeping her spirits high so as to not depress herself. "From the way you're anxiously tapping your feet, it's quite clear that we don't have all day!"
Corra nodded, then let herself be dragged away by her friend. Yet, just before she disappeared from the large observatory room they were in, she took one cursory glance out of the window pane. Her irises flashed with inexplicable emotions as she lingered on nothing in particular before being successfully pulled away.
However, less than a second later, a small smirk formed outside the same window pane she had been so intently staring at. But in the very next moment, that smirk vanished—along with the karmic debt he owed to the father of a certain aspiring scientist.
A woman who only wished to help people—just as her father had done before her…
"That's the very least I could do for you, old man," Cassius said to himself while gliding over the icy glaciers of the Antarctic at speeds that defied common sense. "You helped pave the way for my evolution, and though I believe our karma to have now canceled each other out, I'll still do whatever I can to make sure your daughter accomplishes all that she wishes to accomplish."
For a few moments, Cassius fondly reminisced about an old man who was meant for greater things.
Yet, before he could achieve them, his time was unfortunately cut short…
"I still remember our grudges, Dissonants," Cassius said, his aura emitting a deadly killing intent. "All of them."
"And for plotting against me, my mother, my family, and the rest of the people close to me," he continued, his speed achieving new heights, "I'll let you experience a mere fraction of what I've endured in my lifetime of Character Development."
[Hehehe…]

The Idle Evolution System evilly grinned alongside its host, with both their minds filled with thoughts that would scare even the most iron-willed of men.
— After a couple nanoseconds of hyperspeed travel —
"Hmm?" Cassius's brows raised in bewilderment as he surveyed the tiny surface area that made up Planet Earth. "Where did Memphis—that silly lass—go? Why can't I find her anywhere?"
He was aware that the Dissonants had infiltrated every major guild and organization in the world—including the Earth Crusaders Guild—but he had been keeping a close eye on anyone he cared about.
Memphis was one of those people, and though he hadn't been actively tracking her location, he made sure to keep a record of her vital status.
In the unlikely scenario where she found herself in dire straits, he could instantly teleport around the entire world and save her by following her life signature.
So then—why was she nowhere to be found…?
"I know for certain that she's still alive," Cassius said keenly. "But why is it that I can't pinpoint her exact location?? Weirder yet… what her life signature is telling me makes no sense… It's saying that she's… up…"
Looking up, well, there was nothing f*cking there! Just the clear blue sky and some clouds!
"Is she in space??" Cassius theorized, his doubt detector ringing like crazy. "That seems very unlikely, but just in case…"
FWAZIP!
He made his way through the Isolated Solar System at tens of thousands of times the speed of light.
Yet, even after searching every nook and cranny of the Ice Sovereign's little playhouse, he found no trace of the meek girl he had picked up in a Gate all those years ago.
"There's no more up unless I break through the 0th Floor's barrier!" Cassius frustratingly said while tapping on the void of space with his feet.
"Wait… Can I break through the Isolated Solar System, and subsequently, the 0th Floor's Protective Barrier?"
Taking another good look at the shimmering barrier, he started to believe that he might actually be able to do it. The barrier looked so—flimsy!
And that was when he realized that he was just wishfully thinking…
The whole reason why the Dissonants were plotting against him and his family was so they could ascend to the Tower's higher floors!
If they could simply shatter the 0th Floor's Barrier, then why were they going through such effort!?
"But… just in case…"
WAAA!
An incredible amount of energy gathered in Cassius's fists as he stared down the shimmering barrier.
The barrier remained unresponsive to his power, which he took as a challenge!
"Oh?" Cassius smirked. "Is this not enough? Very well, then."
It had been a while since he last went all out, and with the benefits of his 1st Idle Benefit calling out to him, he really had no choice in the matter.
He would put his everything into this attack!
