Limitless The Strongest Revenant-Chapter 1068: Kick everyone out [1/2]
Leading the way, I entered the Gate of Irkalla. Under the artificial galaxy, I made my way through the gorgeous path towards the exit. Naturally, the Sirens were the ones walking by my side. Everyone else followed after them.
If there was ever a time that I felt like the main character, this was it. But unlike the stories, I wasn't sure if my decision was the right one. Instead of fearing the Specters, IRIS's lessons made me imagine the worst possible outcome.
I felt like Robyn's words before had scratched the truth.
"Possum, doesn't he remind you of that Luk bastard, Liv keeps bitching about?"
Africa had powerful Reapers. Yet despite the heroism of their people, the land was still plagued by demons. And it wasn't just any demons. It was powerful ones like the Tokoloshe. What made it worse was that they didn't invade from outside the continent. No. They came from inside.
"But fam, peep this—this dude is straight up built different. Like, the strongest one we've had by far, no cap. If we weren't Phantoms, this whole thing would've been a straight L. Usually, we be handling Rank E or maybe D ghosts, but this one? I'm pretty sure it's Rank A for sure!"
And it wasn't just one or two. We found a Dream demon on each of the princes. No matter how powerful Onye was, it should have been impossible to control demons. Thus, the question becomes, who put them into the princes to begin with?
"A Tokoloshe? Heavens! Yes, it does. They are mischievous or malevolent spirits in Zulu mythology. They attack people, giving them nightmares and disturbing dreams. I never knew that the Tokoloshe came from Hellsgate!"
I could have just misunderstood, and Onye could somehow communicate with demons. But even then, why did each prince and reaper die to the Tokoloshe? It reeked of stories of people selling their souls to demons like Faust.
"Yep, Carlos said it right. The Rite of Apep. The entire reaper community knows of Africa's infamous malice-cleansing rite. Hundreds of powerful African reapers died in this ceremony. But did you know that it is not limited to princes?"
Besides cleansing the malice, it stopped African Reapers from getting stronger. And hearing how Kaziema thought about all this made me certain. Much like the vampires, there was something going on here. Onye shouldn't be able to control the demons unless…
'Unless he was no longer just a Reaper to begin with.'
"Fine. Her name is Astaroth the 3rd. I don't know much. She just told me to prepare a vampire army to destroy this arc. Not that it matters now. If I knew you, I would fight a fucker like you; I would just have slept till you died. The Malice I lost fighting you was equivalent to eons. I don't have a future anyway even if I escape here."
Even the vampires and Stefan got manipulated. There were far more sinister things hiding in the shadows. Ones I couldn't even hope to understand. But I did know that it was a common trope in anime and manga that when a country was corrupt, the heads were the reasons why.
If Onye was truly a traitor, then it meant either he conspired with demons or was already a demon himself. I had a feeling that the Northern Lok might be playing the same role. Thus, at the realization, I felt chills climb up my spine. I was certain the girls predicted this possibility as I did.
I knew we had to face an army of Specters. Still, I believed we might encounter demons or even an Archdemon in the African capital. It was normal to have a boss of some sort for this big an event.
Another reason I thought this was something I had repeatedly noticed amid all of this.
Africa's Revenant was always absent.
There was someone or something that had the power to keep down a Revenant. And it was part of Onye and the Royal Harem faction. I wouldn't be surprised if Hannibal's weakening was their plan all along.
Much like I said to Kaziema. If for some reason I cannot defeat Onye, the odds that my forces and I would all die were quite high. Normally, one had to gauge their opponents, but sadly I couldn't do that. In my old life, I avoided such decisions to play it safe.
But as a Reaper, that option never presented itself to me. From the enlistment to today. Each and every battle I had made no sense. It was only by repeatedly challenging the impossible that I got to where I was. And while it was dangerous, I knew I had to do this.
"Hmm… who knew that I would arrive at this point? Sometimes I feel like the weight is too heavy for me to carry," I confessed. Even Sahashi died a lonely death because he took on too much. What if I made the same mistake? That thought terrified me.
Ideally, such weaknesses should be kept deep within my heart. But my relationships were not so brittle that they would break from such things. Within moments, the women I loved the most all jumped in to reassure me.
"Even if it is, Beloved, I am sure you will win. Considering your tenacity and drive, I no longer believe anything could faze you. And should your strength ever fail you, we will be there to lighten your burden. For my sisters and I are here right beside you." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
My Northern Valkyrie.
"Liv, stop coddling him. This man has been doing amazing feats one after another! Even as a Phantom, his list of achievements already surpasses even Specters! Dearest, if not you, take it from me. No one in the world can do what you do. It's simply impossible!"
My American princess.
"Bloody Oath! Possum is fucking insane after all! Specter, Revenant, Demon, even an entire battlefront! Be it in brawls or in bed, ain't no man out there that is better than mine! Anyone who says otherwise is a fucking cunt!"
My Australian Hellcat.
"Darling? Are you getting cold feet? Considering everything we have done, what is left to be scared of? You will go there and kick their ass. And we will trash everyone that tries to stop you. That has been how we roll before and in the future! Don't worry, we got this!"
My Italian shooting star.
"Mr. Code, let me correct you. Arriving at this point was not a coincidence. The world tried to bar your way plenty of times. But you just demolished and pulled apart each hurdle standing in your way. So long as it's you, reclaiming Antarctica will certainly come true."
My Brazilian bombshell.
"Take heart, Husband. Destiny determined your life and path. The world needed a hero. And it took the strongest soul it could find and gave birth to you. Despite all the hardships and enemies, you continue to stand ever stronger. The world stands with you."
My African guardian angel.
"Anata, do not worry about anything else. Just push forward; the Sirens exist to support you. Even if you do make a mistake, we will handle it. Together, we will overcome anything, so have no fear. You are meant for heights far greater than this. Perhaps you need some motivation?"
My Asian landlady.
Despite learning the secrets of the Successors and the Sins, they still remain by my side. Even though I was outgunned and outnumbered, they still wouldn't leave. Even amidst the fear of uncertainty about the legacies, they all followed me.
I couldn't help but chuckle out loud. The girls, for all their flowery words, stayed out of my reach. And I knew exactly why.
"Hahaha, is that so? Thank you, my precious Kindred; I love you. But why hasn't anyone held hands with me?"
Their links all suddenly got dyed with embarrassment. Just like that, all the fear and tension in my body got blown away. In their place was battle hunger and excitement. The girls were right. IRIS created me to become a Successor.
While I had selfish reasons. It was true that my actions were all to make life better. I turned around and saw the Africans with me to my left. On my right and back were the allies I gathered on my journey. There were both Reapers and Reborn; they too believed in my cause.
Feeling pumped up, I slapped my cheeks with my palms. Who the hell cared if I was way in over my head? I wasn't alone. If I had given up when things looked hopeless, I would not be here today. I had already made my choice; all that was left was to see it through.
"Yosh! Exa, can I count on you?"
[Always, my lord.]
As we walked inside the small galaxy of the Gate of Irkalla, my body began to heat up. I couldn't hold in the feeling and broke into a run. The girls all followed. Then so did everyone else with us.
Eventually, we reached the exit and appeared in the middle of a desert. It was night, so the surroundings were dark. Except for the beautiful silver moon and the cold breeze, only sand could be seen for miles in every direction.
But then, I sensed something. It felt like a pocket dimension. Much like a portal or our subspace inventory. If I didn't have Lilly's family of {Fates}, I probably wouldn't have even noticed it. I couldn't see it, but I knew it was there.
