The sky made a remarkable growl at that time. With the earlier clouds that had gathered enough, rain began to pour over the lands slowly. Jessie felt another round of pain coursing through her body. They infected her with something powerful that she couldn’t fight back. No matter how hard she tried, it was blocking all her magical powers.
In her twenty five years of life, she had never felt so weak and vulnerable. She was pretty sure that all her efforts would go in vain if she struggled to break free from them. Shifter Chitahs were the most powerful at night only. Some even believed that they could turn down a whole town together with all their powers and tricks.
When the rain dropped on her cheeks, Jessie managed to blurt weakly, feeling the Chitahs approaching her slowly,
" He...Help...."
The sky growled again, burying her voice behind the dark storms. Tears formed in her eyes to think how naive she was to come here all alone. Shanz wouldn’t be bothered to look for her. At this point, she finally understood how much Cedric cared for her despite her nature of throwing shades on him always. In the past, no matter what she did in the Basarisk, he was always there to settle the matter for her safety.
Unfortunately, that little sound didn’t miss their attention. As soon as Jessie opened her mouth, one of them pounced on her face to leave another deep scar. With a new pain added to her weak body, Jessie wailed like a wounded dog, desperately trying to activate her powers but she wasn’t strong enough against these six Chitahs.
At that very moment when they extended their claws to strip her clothes off, a black rose rushed to the spot like the wind. Shanz jumped off the horse in a few seconds and discovered the blood boiling scene ahead. All those Chitahs were hovering on Jessie as two of them held her hands down.
After his surprising arrival, all the Chitahs were stunned to the point of moving nothing. Never in their imagination, they thought that Shanz would be here to rescue Jessie so fast.
Shanz teased in burning anger, his eyes carrying a wrath which was still unrevealed,
" Having fun, Ministers? Would you mind if I join with you?" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
The Chitahs all quickly backed away in pure shock. They thought that they had masked themselves well. Even if he found Jessie dead, he wouldn’t be able to figure out their identities. However, with one single glance, Shanz who these bastards were.
These ministers were real troublemaker ever since he became the acting king. His brother used to sugarcoat them a lot unlike him who hated their manipulative attitude. Since then, they used every chance to go against his decision. It was still surreal for him that they had actually targeted Jessie to provoke him. Not to mention, they were holding her in an inappropriate manner which could be guessed from their position.
The ministers were all dumbstruck for a short while. The first Chitah with scar on his head bent down his head first to skip the matter wisely,
" Your Majesty! Our brothers were just.. playing around..We have really done no harm to her.."
The most shocking person was Jessie in that place. She felt weak because of the drug that they injected into her blood. Battling with her heavy eyes, she could only stare blankly at the man in a few steps away.
Was I dreaming? How could just Shanz appear on time to save her when he was the one who ordered her like a maid?
Shanz eyes shifted over the girl on the ground. Like the first drop of water, his eyes melted softly on her poor appearance. Her beautiful face was full of dust and mud. As the rain kept pouring, it appeared more dirty and stained. Besides that, he could see the terror coming from her eyes which was very unusual of her character.
What did these bastards do to her?
Another Chitah tried to justify their actions, not understanding the wrath behind his gaze,
" Your Highness..She..she is our enemy..Her brother killed our former his majesty. We were just trying to scare her off."
Jessie dropped his head down after listening to them. She also knew that it was Cedric who executed the death of Vincent. But a vivid image from that night was still alive in her memory. She clearly remembered Isabella, talking to Cedric just before Cedric hung Vincent death.
Could it be possible that Isabella knew about the execution from the beginning? Why didn’t she try to stop Cedric?
No matter what was the reason, the whole Davina blamed Cedric for the death of Vincent. This fact wasn’t going to change. Probably, Shanz would change his mind after they triggered his painful memory.
Jessie didn’t expect anything in return. She was already grateful that they couldn’t violate her anymore. As for the rest, she was glad as long as she could return to his palace safely.
To everyone’s surprise, Shanz expression didn’t change a bit when they called Jessie an enemy. Without bothering to hear their lies, his boots clicked against the muddy road, walking over to Jessie. Squatting down beside her, he raised her up in his arms as she kept muttering,
" Let me..I can walk...Put me down..I really.."
Her words were cut off when Shanz shot a deathly glare to the Chitahs. His words resonated loud even against the sound of raindrops,
" HOW DARE YOU TOUCH MY WOMAN?"
The Chitahs all gasped hard in shock including Jessie whose eyes enlarged in disbelief. She opened her lips to say something but nothing came out. At the same time, she noticed how Shanz’s eyes became black in color as they zoomed on those Chitahs.
Not quite understanding his intention, she saw them shifting back to their human shapes without any clothes in front of her eyes. She closed her eyes shut to hide the embarrassment.
But.. didn’t they say that Chitahs can’t shift back to human until dawn? How did Shanz turn them into humans?
