Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 112: Ronan’s Past
Arielle immediately closed her eyes tightly and made herself smaller. It was all an attempt to try to protect herself from being attacked by a wolf. Her breath hitched. The tension from earlier did not stop. Arielle waited a long time for her body to feel pain from the wolf’s attack, but she didn’t feel anything.
Arielle prayed in her heart that the wolf had left her alone.
"Uh... T-Tania?" Arielle called out a shaky voice when she suddenly felt her dress being pulled slowly. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Tania never replied which made Arielle panic again. The girl kept her eyes closed. What if the wolf monster was still around? Arielle continued to maintain her position, and once again, her skirt was pulled by something.
Arielle opened her eyes slowly. Her heart beat faster as she found the wolf as it rested in front of her while it was biting her skirt. Arielle couldn’t escape from under the bed because the wolf’s body was so big that it blocked all of Arielle’s access to get out.
Arielle cringed in fear as the wolf stretched out his furry paw. She thought she would be clawed, but the wolf didn’t move as if asking Arielle to extend her hand too. Arielle noticed the wolf’s face. A vertical cut across the left side of his face reminded Arielle of someone. The same with that intimidating sharp gaze.
"Your Majesty?" called Arielle as she started crying again. "What happened to you?"
Arielle’s cries got louder which made the wolf straighten his body. The furry paw patted her clothes, and Arielle slowly dared to touch it even though her own hand was shaking violently. Her face was wet with tears, yet she ignored it.
After she successfully touched his black mane, Ronan moved his body slowly so that Arielle wouldn’t be afraid. The girl was still crying, but now Ronan didn’t know what the girl was crying about since it was clear that he wouldn’t hurt her and she realized who he was.
Ronan patiently sat and waited for Arielle to fully calm down. Arielle’s hand which held onto his paw was enough for the man to forget his dark and troublesome thoughts from earlier.
However, all of a sudden, Arielle hugged his neck and made the man blink his eyes in confusion. Arielle was still sobbing.
"What happened? Why did you become like this???" asked Arielle as tears continued to leak out from her eyes. The girl started to hiccup a few times.
"Your Majesty... What did they do to you??? Why did you become a wolf???"
Ronan couldn’t answer. In his wolf form, he could only howl. Maybe even in his human form, too, Ronan still couldn’t answer the question. He was born like this. He did not ask to be born as a not-fully-human being. But from a young age, he had learned to control his animal instincts.
(I also don’t want to be like this, Arielle) Ronan said to himself.
Arielle let go of her hug then wiped the rest of her tears. The girl still continued to hiccup, but she wasn’t as hysterical as before. The fear that grabbed ahold of her body waned and she finally remembered something.
"Is this the curse told at the festival?" she asked sadly.
(I do not know)
"Will you continue to be like this, Your Majesty?"
(I don’t know)
Arielle bit down on her lips and looked down. "I’m sorry... I’m sorry... I was scared... I had a dream that a wolf almost pounced on me."
(I won’t. I would never)
Ronan ventured to rest his head on Arielle’s lap. At first, the girl’s body stiffened, but she slowly relaxed after a couple of seconds.
Ronan, who was slowly starting to calm down, realized something. His body straightened up again, he stared up at Arielle’s wet face with mixed feelings.
(Arielle?)
"Yes, Your Majesty?"
His ears instantly perked up. He was surprised. Ronan wanted to confirm one more time.
(Arielle?)
Arielle wiped the rest of her tears using the sleeves of her dress. She then looked sadly at the wolf in front of her.
"Yes, Your Majesty?" asked Arielle again.
Now Ronan was standing on all fours. Arielle, who was sitting on the floor, looked very small compared to the wolf’s body. Arielle looked up to find out why Ronan kept calling her.
(Y-you can hear me?)
Arielle knitted her eyebrows at that question.
"Yes, very clearly, Your Majesty," she answered quietly.
(How could that be?)
How could that be? Arielle didn’t understand either. She just answered the voice in her head. The voice didn’t ring in her ears, but Arielle could feel it in her head.
Ronan lowered his body to sit opposite Arielle. He brought his face closer to the girl. Arielle, who still harbored a bit of fear, was quite surprised. She didn’t get pounced on or hurt. The wolf rubbed the side of his face against Arielle’s.
(Can you really hear me?)
Arielle, who was amused, pushed the wolf’s face away then nodded.
(Can you hug me one more time? I’m afraid you’ll leave me)
Arielle slowly touched the side of the hairy face. She followed the trail of the same scar with her forefinger. Arielle felt guilty for pushing the man away. She was really scared.
This was her first experience meeting a wolf of this size. The events of the last full moon still haunted her. In that dream, Arielle was almost attacked by the same wolf. Arielle panicked...
Those red eyes were no longer sharp. The sad twinkle in those teary red eyes made Arielle’s heart feel as if it was sliced. A human who had another form of an animal? She couldn’t imagine what Ronan went through to accept the other side.
"Your Majesty... Were you the wolf that helped Junia and me in the cave at that time?"
Ronan nodded slowly. Arielle’s guilt became even bigger. She had no intention of hurting the heart of the man who had helped her. Arielle felt she was not worthy to be a good friend. Arielle became sad again. She hugged the wolf’s neck and cried once more.
"I’m sorry... I’m sorry, Your Majesty... I’m not a very good friend... My fear overwhelms me..."
Arielle buried her tear-filled face into the wolf’s black mane. Slowly the wolf’s body shrank. The black fur that covered him one by one disappeared. Arielle was still crying on Ronan’s shoulder. The man hugged Arielle’s body tightly.
"You won’t leave me, will you, Arielle?"
Arielle shook her head on the man’s broad shoulders. Ronan grabbed Arielle’s body and helped her to move on his lap and sit more comfortably. He let her cry on his shoulder. Ronan chose to bury his face in the crook of Arielle’s neck. His broken heart slowly began to warm.
This was what he wanted... that Arielle accepted his other side. He held himself back from crying.
All his life, he always longed for someone who was able to accept the side that was always cursed by his mother. Ronan could feel the corner of his heart that always felt empty without the love of a mother slowly began to fill.
"You... don’t hate me?" he asked in a choked voice.
Arielle tightened her arms around the man’s neck then shook her head.
Arielle could never hate Ronan. Even though that man was a powerful king who was always harsh to everyone, Arielle could feel deep pain when he asked her to stay by his side. Arielle didn’t want Ronan to be sad like before.
"I was... just afraid the wolf would pounce on me."
Ronan stroked Arielle’s back gently. "No way, I will punish myself if I hurt you. You are the most important person to me, Arielle."
Arielle rubbed her face roughly. She looked at Ronan with a look of regret.
"I’m really sorry, Your Majesty. Sorry I’ve hurt you."
Ronan gently placed Arielle’s head back on his shoulder again. The man tried to calm Arielle, whose voice was shaking again.
"Ssh... as long as you don’t leave me, everything will be fine."
Arielle nodded in understanding. There was one more question that bothered her. Arielle, who was getting tired from crying, rested her cheek on Ronan’s bare shoulder.
She was too focused on her thoughts to realize that the man was not covered by even a single thread.
