Chapter 331: The Fire Can’t Touch Arielle

Priest Louise took out a piece of paper. He showed Arielle a sketch of the mysterious man. Ronan had seen it before. On the side of the black and white sketch were noted the characteristics of a man who had white hair and sparkling blue eyes. Just like what Arielle’s had now.

Priestess Unor and the king thought that white hair was not a special trait because, although it was very rare, white hair existed in their kingdom. What they focused on were the blue irises that were as bright as the sky and sparkling like gems.

Arielle looked at the sketch. Her heart was pounding hard. She suddenly remembered the old man who had helped her in the forest ten years ago. Arielle was not so sure because she could barely recall her memory.

Before that, she didn’t remember anything at all. And after Priest Elis and Priest Khan unlocked her powers, Arielle got her memory back in quite a strange way.

"I still remember well about the night before the man disappeared mysteriously."

Priest Louise opened his note and read it for a moment. "The mysterious man was still in an unconscious state. That night, it was my duty to monitor him. With my other apprentices, I followed Priestess Unor’s guidance to stabilize the man’s body temperature with mana trigrams. Because during the day we were busy, so at night we both got very sleepy and without realizing it, my friend hit the candles beside him. The bed where the man was sleeping was caught on fire."

Arielle swallowed hard. She could guess the continuation of the story. Meanwhile, Ronan had heard this story many times, so he was a little bored. He glanced at Arielle, who looked tense beside him.

"We all panicked and suddenly the man woke up from his sleep. He clapped his hands twice, then all the fire burning his body vanished with no trace as if it was absorbed into his body."

Ronan frowned when he saw Arielle gasping. He smiled slightly as the girl turned to him with a panicked look.

"What’s wrong?" Ronan asked in a whisper.

"I..." Arielle couldn’t say a word. She chose to stay and listen to what Priest Louise had to say. "Nothing. And then ... what happened to the man?"

"And that man was summoned by the king. I don’t know exactly what happened. After the man met the king, the next day he disappeared mysteriously. Even the king closed the case. These are all scientific records and some hypotheses of Priestess Unor."

"Until now, the man couldn’t be found?" Arielle asked curiously.

"Yes, Princess." Priest Louise nodded his head.

"That book... May I know some important points from the book?" Arielle asked again.

Priest Louise flipped the next few pages. "It was written that the mysterious man received all kinds of mana. And at a certain time, when the man’s body is hotter than usual, the priest who gave him mana felt that their power had increased significantly."

"These are scientific records. But the most interesting thing is Priestess Unor’s final hypothesis about the man’s body. She said the man could absorb fire."

Arielle nodded in anticipation of what Priest Louise said.

"Do you know that Priestess Unor’s had traveled around the continent before she became a queen?" Priest Louise asked.

Arielle nodded. "I’ve read the book."

"And do you also know about the story of Priestess Unor, who witnessed the ritual of burning the humans alive by one of the tribes in the Thebis Kingdom?"

Once again, Arielle nodded.

"Some part of the Thebis Kingdom believes that they have the same curse as Northendell. The difference is that their kingdom is covered in scorching deserts, while Northendell is covered in eternal snow. In one of the hottest deserts of Thebis, an eternal flame has been discovered. They believe if they manage to extinguish it, they can wipe out the entire desert."

"However, Thebis was divided into two faiths. One was a group that viewed eternal flame as protection of the gods and the other as a curse. The battle was won by those who thought that the eternal flame was the reincarnation of a god who wanted to protect them. Therefore, the kingdom expelled those who tried to extinguish the fire."

"In Priestess Unor’s journal, she met the tribe who thought that the eternal flame was a curse. They established a small kingdom in disguise and built a temple. Once a year, they sacrificed one priest who was deemed as the strongest among them. If they pass the ritual unharmed, then that person will be appointed to extinguish the eternal flame."

Priest Louise took out a sketch drawn by Priestess Unor. "But their hundreds of years of effort failed. No one was able to pass the eternal flame even if they could pass through the ritual."

"Then... What does that have to do with that mysterious man, Priest?"

"Priestess Unor thought that maybe... maybe the mysterious man could steal the eternal flame of Thebis and use it to melt the eternal snow in Northendell."

Arielle gave a slight gasp that made Priest Louise chuckle. "A very crazy plan and hypothesis, right?"

"P-priest Louise..."

"Yes, Your Highness?"

"I don’t know if this is a coincidence or not." The girl stood up straight and looked around the room.

Her feet stepped towards the fireplace, and Arielle looked at the fire in front of her nervously. Then, the girl suddenly reached out her hand to touch the coals, making Ronan and Priest Louise stand up in surprise.

Ronan and Priest Louise’s shocked expressions made Arielle pull her arm quickly. Once again, her hand was unharmed, though the hem of her clothes was on fire. Ronan rushed to her. He checked Arielle’s hand, making sure the girl was fine and not hurt in the slightest.

"Are you okay?" Ronan asked worriedly.

Arielle nodded. "I’m fine. The fire cannot burn me. Look."

Ronan looked carefully at each side of Arielle’s hand. And it was true. Her hands weren’t hurt or burned at all. It was the same as before. Only her sleeve was burned by the fire.
