Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 332: The Faith of Moon Goddess
"Since when can you do that?" Ronan interrogated Arielle right away.
"I started to get suspicious when William saved me in Nieverdell. At that time, I believed I touched an iron ladder melted by the fire, but when I looked at my palms, nothing happened even though my sleeve dress burned like this. Then, a few days ago, I tried to touch the wick of a burning candle, and I didn’t feel anything."
"Why didn’t you tell me first, Arielle?" he asked worriedly.
"Ah, that... that time I was scared, Ronan. I thought there was something wrong with me. That’s why I plan to ask Priest Elis about this first, but the incident a few days ago has made me more anxious and frightened."
When Priest Elis and Priest Khan said that she had some kind of power, Arielle panicked. She didn’t know what to do. Then, after cooling her head for two days, Arielle could think clearly again. Yeah, she should have told Ronan this in advance. Maybe he could help her to find out what happened to her.
Ronan stroked Arielle’s hand gently, then he turned to Priest Louise asking for an opinion.
"Hm... This is exactly what I’ve seen. It turns out that the resemblance between you and the mysterious man back then wasn’t just about appearance and mana amplification power."
Priest Louise thought for a moment. "Mana power can’t always be passed down to a person. When the mana flow opens, it could be caused by extreme environmental conditions. But this case seems different. Your Highness, do you know your other mother’s family?" Priest Louise asked.
Ronan led Arielle to sit back. The man was still holding Arielle’s hand to make sure she wasn’t hurt in the slightest. He almost had a heart attack earlier.
Arielle shook her head weakly. "No, Priest Louise. All I know is that my mother was a... slave who worked in one of my father’s manors. And father married mother there. I don’t know anything about her since she passed away after giving birth to me."
Priest Louise nodded in understanding. "Princess Arielle’s power is indeed very different. If Princess Arielle was in Thebis, she might become the target of a tribe that thinks the eternal flame of Thebis is a curse and forces her to enter the eternal flame. It’s good if we keep Princess Arielle’s power from others."
"But Priest Khan?"
"Priest Khan only knows you can perform mana amplification. Maybe that man thinks that by using you to amplify the mana to other priests, the priest could step in to extinguish the eternal flame," Ronan replied.
Arielle nodded in understanding. "Priest Louise, you said that Thebis is divided into two faiths and currently ruled by people who believed that the eternal flame was the reincarnation of the god who protected Thebis. Then, how could Priest Khan, one of the Thebis priests, want something contrary to their beliefs?"
Ronan didn’t just sit still. He replied to Arielle’s question. "The Pyromians, those who worship the eternal flame, are currently in power. They oppress those who have beliefs that are opposite to theirs. It’s not a secret that some people who think the eternal fire in Thebis is a curse try to blend in and spread their beliefs secretly. Maybe yesterday Priest Khan unconsciously showed his true self."
"What about Northendell?" Arielle asked.
Priest Louise smiled at Arielle’s curiosity. "Northendell still adheres to the ancient belief of worshiping the Moon Goddess, just like Nieverdell, Wolgast, and other people who think that eternal flame is a curse. The Pyromians are a new belief created by a Thebis King who uses the eternal flame to expand his power."
Arielle was a person who came diligently to the Cathedral to pray to the moon goddess because that was what Tania taught her to. Even so, Arielle didn’t really understand who the Moon Goddess was or what the Moon Goddess could do.
Before she came to Northendell, Arielle understood nothing because she did not get access to education. All Arielle learned at Nieverdell was to be a maid and how to paint. And now knowing a new thing, opened up Arielle’s world to a wider place.
Arielle remembered the Northendell folk tale about the white-haired witch. The show she saw while visiting the festival in Northendell’s town square.
"Then, what about the story of the first King of Northendell’s concubine who cursed Northendell back then? The white-hair witch?" Arielle asked Ronan.
"I told you, it’s just folklore that’s been changed a lot through time," answered Ronan.
"Do you know what the original story was like?" Arielle asked curiously.
"No one knows for sure, Princess," replied Priest Louise. "Even after His Majesty the King opened the secret chambers of the kings, we found verrry little clue how the beginning of this eternal snow really happened."
Priest Louise was indeed very old, but he still had a desire to study new things. So, Ronan had given his permission for the manuscripts to be copied to satisfy the old man’s curiosity.
He allowed the cathedral to duplicate the records because the original manuscripts were very fragile and could be damaged easily if they did not maintain properly. He did this under his direct supervision. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Priest Louise stood up from his chair. Arielle, who wanted to help him, was stopped by Priest Louise. The man signed her to sit back. Priest Louise walked slowly towards the glass window where a green plant dangled right above his head.
"However, after seeing some people who could withstand fire makes me believe a bit in one of the stories Priestess Unor used told us, her apprentices," said Priest Louise.
Ronan knew what story Priest Louise was about to tell. He let out a long sigh because this would be so boring. When he was under the guidance of Priest Louise, the old man always told him the same story. It was about the first concubine of the king who ran away while carrying the heart of Mount Birwick to Thebis.
"This is her favorite story..."
