Chapter 354: Northendell’s First Knight Apprentice

"So... now we just have to think about the gifts we need to give...."

Ronan nodded, and the room fell silent for a moment as the four of them were deep in thought. Ronan was considering giving the same gift he had told Arielle, but now Sasha had parents who could afford to pay the school fees.

William thought of a book, but he felt it would be a waste because as far as William knew, Sasha didn’t enjoy studying. Kael was also unprepared. Maybe if this was told a few days in advance, Kael could order a special sword or costume for the boy.

Lazarus’ head was blank. He couldn’t think of anything. His brain was filled with adult things. If he was determined to give those things to Sasha, Arielle and Ronan would behead him straight away.

Sasha’s farewell party preparations turned out to be more lively than Arielle had imagined. She made a special cake for that boy, but when she was about to decorate the hall, many knights had gathered to join the party. They were all Sasha friends during his training. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Outside the palace, the sky had darkened and Lazarus began to order the musicians to start playing their instruments. The chilly atmosphere outside the palace did not reach the hall. The hall felt much warmer because of the banter of the guards and knights gathered inside.

Arielle had changed into nicer dress. William and Lazarus had held their beers while Sasha was busy playing with the other knights at a wide table filled with lots of food. Arielle chuckled to see William and Lazarus cheering with their glasses of beer and Sasha with a glass of warm milk.

Arielle watched Sasha laughing happily with his friends. He always managed to lighten up the mood. Maybe in the future, the palace would become a little quieter. Sasha often helped Arielle to bring books, help her make food, or play with the bunnies.

Lucas joined in with more people. Now, the servants joined in too, sitting at the tables that Arielle and Lucas had prepared. Sasha got so many gifts, and the gifts piled up, making the boy flustered.

"Whoaaaa!!! Is this all for me???" he asked in disbelief, looking at the pile of gifts that were much taller than his body.

Sasha looked at the gifts one by one in amazement, trying to guess what the contents of the gifts were. Arielle was also confused about where they could get all these gifts, yet Sasha’s farewell party was announced this afternoon.

Sasha turned to Arielle. "Can I open it? Please, please, please???"

Arielle couldn’t refuse Sasha’s request. She nodded, and the boy cheered. However, before Sasha had time to open the top gift wrapper, suddenly the hall door opened, causing everyone to turn their heads towards the entrance.

Kael followed inside, giving a code to William and Lazarus to stop the party for a while.

The two men then dragged Sasha out. Arielle, who wanted to follow, was stopped by Tania and Lucas.

"Relax, they won’t hurt Sasha," said Tania, making Arielle sit back in her chair.

Sasha, who was brought out of the room, protested because hey wanted to open his gifts.

"What is this? If it’s not important, I want to go back. I’m the star of tonight’s party. Don’t ruin my night," Sasha said, then received a soft knock on his head from Kael, who told the boy to be quiet.

A servant came with a small suit of armor, a smaller iron sword, and a red robe that was slightly larger than his size.

"Whoa whoa whoa! I can’t open my gift in this outfit," Sasha said as he took a step back, refusing to put on the armor.

Lazarus, who was annoyed with Sasha’s babbling, put on a helmet of armor, so the boy stopped talking. William helped Sasha put on the armor that was light enough for children to wear.

In the end, Kael, Lazarus and William couldn’t get a farewell gift for Sasha. They could only give their old items, which were still very good and well-maintained. Like Lazarus’ armor, Kael’s first sword was as a child, as well as William’s oversized cloak.

There was no point in keeping the things anyway, so the three decided to give them to Sasha.

Sasha opened the face shield of his helmet. "Whoa... it fits me so well!" the boy exclaimed while watching his body in amazement.

William made sure Sasha’s sword was strapped to his hip. After everything was put on correctly, the trio pushed Sasha back into the hall.

Before Lazarus and William opened the door, Kael knelt in front of Sasha while touching the boy’s shoulder. "This is a gift from us. Walk with pride and prove that you can become a true knight in the future."

"Lord Kael..."

"You are a great boy. When you grow up, visit the palace and prove to me you are worthy to be a knight under my leadership."

Sasha nodded firmly.

"I promise," he replied.

Kael got up and stood back behind Sasha. Then, Lazarus and William opened the hall door wide. No more crowded parties. The entire hall became quiet with everyone standing. Several knights stood face to face in the hall while the king stood at the far end with the princess by his side.

Sasha’s heart skipped a beat as all the attention turned to him. Kael gently pushed Sasha back to walk forward. The boy started walking down the hall towards the king.

The knights standing at the side of the passage raised their swords high, then returned their swords as Sasha passed them.

After arriving in front of the king, Sasha immediately lowered his body and bent on one knee, kneeling in front of the king.

"Knight Shasha. Will you, on this day, pledge allegiance to Northendell and stand as Northendell’s first apprentice knight?"

"Yes, Your Majesty?"

"Are you willing to become the sword and the shield for the greater good of Northendell?"

"Yes, Your Majesty."

Sasha sheathed his sword to present to the king. Then, Ronan used the sword to touch gently both Sasha’s shoulders with the tip.

"I, Ronan D. Blackthorn, King of Northendell Kingdom, hereby place my trust in you. May your bravery and devotion be a shining example for all young people across the kingdom."

Ronan returned the sword to Sasha and then Sasha sheathed his sword again. The king allowed Sasha to stand up.

After the procession, Sasha turned back to greet his fellow nights. Everyone clapped and congratulated Sasha on the success of officially becoming Northendell’s first knight apprentice.
