Chapter 359: What Happened To Ronan?

"Princess," Tania called, touching Arielle’s hand gently.

"Oh, Tania? You are here?" Arielle asked. She was surprised to see Tania was in her room.

The woman smiled. "Did something happen? Why are you daydreaming?"

Arielle shook her head slowly, then closed the book. She couldn’t concentrate because she kept thinking about Ronan’s strange behavior.

"I’m fine. Maybe I’m a little tired because today I studied until the afternoon," Arielle replied. She lied a little because she didn’t want to make Tania worry.

Tania knew well that wasn’t the girl’s worry about, but she didn’t force Arielle. Sometimes, there were things she shouldn’t interfere with.

After helping Arielle change into nightclothes, Tania tidied the princess’ bed so that the girl could lie down comfortably. She was surprised when she saw Riel emerge from under the blanket.

"You didn’t return Riel to its cage?" Tania asked while looking at Riel.

Arielle, who was combing her hair, turned towards Tania. "Oh, I forgot. I took Riel out this afternoon. Since it’s late, I’ll let it sleep with me tonight."

Arielle thanked Tania for helping her that night. After Tania left her alone, Arielle laid on the bed with her head full of worries. Riel jumped up on top of her body. While daydreaming, Arielle gently stroked Riel’s soft fur.

"What exactly happened?" Arielle muttered.

That day, she sent two messages, but she received no reply. Ronan also behaved... strangely. Arielle realized when they met earlier, Ronan chose to turn around and ignored her purposely. Besides, it was the first time the man had not invited her to have lunch together. That was really strange.

William also seemed to hide something...

Arielle turned left and right, trying to find a comfortable position to fall asleep. Maybe she was just worrying about it too much. Ronan was very busy, and maybe tomorrow he would behave like usual.

The next day was the same...

Since this morning, Arielle couldn’t see Ronan. She even sent a message through Lucas again, but there was still no reply. Lucas just shook his head. Arielle couldn’t concentrate. All the explanations the chamberlain gave just passed by her ears. Her head was filled with worry about why Ronan didn’t want to see her.

Even during lunch time, Arielle did not find the man in his office. There was only William doing his work at Ronan’s desk. When she asked the man, William said he knew nothing.

There was no way Ronan transformed that faster. The full moon night was still two days left.

Even after the night came, Arielle still did not get a reply from Ronan. This was the second night Arielle laid in bed thinking about what had happened.

Arielle thought about what mistakes she had made that Ronan was avoiding her like this.

She couldn’t brush it off again. After Tania left her room, Arielle grabbed her coat and got out of her room. The girl strode through the gusts of snow that were fiercer than usual. It looked like a snowstorm was coming soon. Before that happened, she rushed across the garden to the Blackthorn Palace. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Arielle tightened her coat so that no one would see that she was only wearing nightclothes.

The first place Arielle visited was the man’s office. There was no answer when she knocked on the door. Because there was no answer, Arielle entered the room, but no one was there.

Arielle went up the stairs to Ronan’s room. She hid behind the wall when she saw a doctor and priest come out of the man’s room. When the two of them had left, Arielle braced herself to run towards the room.

Without knocking, Arielle immediately opened the door to Ronan’s room, making the owner look up from the book he was reading.

"Ariel? What are you-"

The man’s words stopped midway when he saw Arielle’s red face. He panicked even more when the girl started to cry.

Hurriedly, Ronan got off his bed and rushed over to Arielle, who was crying at the door. He closed the door and hugged Arielle tightly.

"Shh... shhh... tell me, what happened, Arielle? Why are you crying like this?" Ronan panicked because Arielle’s cry was getting louder.

Arielle didn’t answer Ronan’s question. She was frustrated about Ronan’s behavior the past two days. Arielle had been trying to act as usual, but Ronan still behaved strangely. She thought something bad had happened until she heard the conversation between the doctor and the priest who had just left Ronan’s room.

"Why didn’t you tell me if you were sick?" asked Arielle between her tears.

Ronan was tongue-tied. He didn’t expect to make her cry like this. He touched both of Arielle’s shoulders.

"I’m sorry.. I’m sorry... I didn’t mean to make you worry."

"But you avoided me for two days!" Arielle cried in frustration. She couldn’t accept Ronan’s answer.

"I-I just didn’t want to get you infected."

Arielle wiped the rest of her tears. "But you can reply to my messages, right?"

"Yes, but I really didn’t want to worry you."

"But with you not telling me anything, I got even more worried," replied Arielle, making Ronan feel more guilty.

Ronan was almost never sick. After a prolonged fever following an incident in the past, Ronan had never once felt sick. He was a little panicked because after so many years he got the flu.

He didn’t want Arielle to get infected, so he tried to avoid her as best as he could. And the girl’s messages... if Ronan told Arielle that he was sick, he was sure the girl would rush to see him.

"You’re being unfair! Everyone can visit you but I can’t," said Arielle, reminding Ronan of yesterday when she came to visit the man’s room and found people coming out of the room.

Ronan didn’t really care about other people. He only cared about Arielle’s condition. Thus, he also forbade people to interact with Arielle. Maybe his worry made her feel uncomfortable.

"I know. After I recover later, I will apologize properly. Now you know my condition, right? So, please go back to your room. I don’t want you to get infected."

Arielle bit her lower lip. She didn’t listen to Ronan’s request at all. The girl opened her eyes, causing Ronan to stand confused on the spot.

"It’s stormy outside. Can I stay here tonight?"

Ron groaned. He rubbed his face. Did Arielle plan to kill him slowly? Why did the girl ask something like that when he couldn’t touch the girl freely?

"But I’m sick, Arielle."

"Then, allow me to take care of you," Arielle insisted.

Ronan let out a deep sigh. This was one of the reasons why Ronan didn’t want to tell Arielle about his condition. The girl asked for a difficult thing. He couldn’t grant it.

"I don’t want you to get infected," said Ronan, trying to persuade Arielle that staying with him would only make the girl sick later.

"I’m not that weak, Ronan. My immunity is pretty good lately," the girl said as she sat on the couch near the fireplace.

With unsteady steps Ronan also sat there, and for the first time the man kept a distance from Arielle.
