Chapter 377: Fighting For Little Consciousness

"Amadea, can you return Ronan to me? He’s sick, so I need to take care of him."

The wolf barked.

"I’m fine!" Arielle shouted before William barged in and made her communication with Amadea cut off again.

"Very well, Your Highness. We understand," William replied.

Arielle turned back to Amadea who was waiting for her to speak again. "I knew your purpose, but Ronan had gone through a lot of grief due to your curse. He lost his family at a very young age. And now, he was sick because he couldn’t fight you. Could you give him a little mercy just for tonight?"

(Who are you to command me? He deserves it. Theodore’s descendants deserve all this misery.)

Arielle looked down dejectedly. Otis didn’t tell Arielle what had happened in the past that made Amadea and Princess Cecil curse the descendants of the first king and Northendell. Otis just said that Arielle was not ready to accept the responsibility.

Otis also said that Amadea’s wolf went on rampage every full moon night to destroy the bloodline of the first King Northendell as well as their mate. And Otis said Arielle was Ronan’s mate, so she hoped that her blood could calm Amadea’s wolf.

Indeed, the wolf no longer went berserk by banging his head on the iron bars after sniffing the scent of the crushed flower mixed with a drop of her blood. However, it seemed Amadea still didn’t want to bring Ronan back.

"Ronan? Ronan.... If you hear me, can you come out?" Arielle called, trying to make sure that Ronan’s consciousness was still left behind.

(Tch, the weak human can’t hear you. He’s fighting his nightmares right now) Amadea replied.

Arielle remained unfazed. "Ronan, I remember about our promise before I went to the South. Please wake up so I can keep my promise!" Arielle exclaimed in a half-whisper tone. She didn’t want anyone out there to hear it.

(Naive and stupid. He won’t hea-)

(The red one?) Someone asked in Arielle’s head in a hoarse voice.

She blinked a few times.

The girl nodded. "Yes! The red one!" Arielle replied. She was glad to hear Ronan’s voice again.

***

Ronan was in a subconscious state, but he could hear Arielle’s voice clearly. It was strange. He didn’t fall asleep like he usually did. Ronan could sense that Arielle was around him, but he couldn’t see anything. Around him was only an endless white space.

"Arielle!" Ronan called once more.

(I’m here!)

The girl’s voice echoed throughout the room. Ronan felt very small, and he could also hear a growl from somewhere. Just as he was about to get up, a huge weight hit him. His head was being pressed hard against the floor.

"Go back to sleep as usual. Do not interfere!" a wolf growled while pressing his head with its furry paws. Ronan felt his sharp claws touch every part of his scalp.

He shook his head, refusing to go back to sleep.

"No, Arielle called me. I won’t fall into that nightmare again."

"Sleep. Sleep. Sleep!" Amadea continued to press Ronan’s rebellious head to the floor.

"No, you jerk!" Ronan clenched his fists to push the wolf’s paws away from his head.

He knew his strength could not match that of the wolf, but he kept trying. Ronan lifted his back to kick the floor below, but his effort was in vain. The wolf’s paws kept pressing his head.

"Your resistance will only be in vain, Son of Theodore. No one will help you. So you better sleep tonight."

(Ronan! Hang in there! Don’t lose to him!) Arielle’s voice echoed once again.

Amadea growled, staring at the white ceiling. Seeing that opportunity, Ronan raised his leg high and kicked the wolf’s chin so that it bounced to the side. Amadea growled furiously, making Ronan grin mischievously.

"So you’re just a little wolf, huh?" Ronan said while looking down at his opponent. He rubbed his still sore neck. "Take me back or I will beat you until the night changes."

His threatening words made Amadea laugh.

"Well, if you can do it, then try it," the wolf said. Amadea stood on its four legs and looked down at Ronan, who was smaller than it.

"Oh, of course I can. Come here if you want to try it."

Amadea walked around Ronan.

"You only fought a tiny speck of my power. Then... I’ll take you to the worst nightmare you could ever imagine. Have a wonderful dream."

Ronan didn’t care if he was going to lose or not. No, no, rather he didn’t care if he lost because he knew there wasn’t the slightest chance of him winning against that wolf. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Ronan prepared himself by clenching his fists to receive the attack from the wolf in front of him.

Ready or not... it was worth to try.

The wolf jumped, then planted its sharp fangs on Ronan’s neck. And because of that attack Ronan lost his consciousness again. Before he completely blacked out, Ronan thought the bit of consciousness he was feeling was worth it. And most importantly Ronan knew... if Arielle had now remembered their promise....

Arielle kept waiting and tried to reach Ronan with her voice. However, after the man called her name the last time, she no longer heard Ronan’s voice or Amadea’s voice in her head. The wolf glanced at her and smiled between its sharp fangs.

(Well, that’s it. That child has no manners. It’s good that he went back to sleep.)

Arielle knew immediately that she could no longer communicate with Ronan. From the wolf’s satisfied expression, it seemed that it had won something. The wolf ignored Arielle again. It laid down its head next to the mortar while sniffing it continuously.

It didn’t matter as long as Amadea was no longer going berserk and banging its head on iron bars. Although she was still worried about the man’s condition, the most important thing was Ronan didn’t lose himself completely. There was still a possibility for the man to fight the wolf side of Amadea.
