Chapter 379: Snowdrop Flower

While they were busy waiting, Priest Elis approached Arielle.

"Your Highness, I’m sorry to disturb your time. But if you don’t mind, may I ask you something?" Priest Elis said.

Arielle, who was sitting on the bench, looked up at Priest Elis, then she stood up.

"What is it, Priest Elis?" she asked.

Priest Elis took out the mortar that still had the crushed flower in it. Ah, Arielle knew what the man was going to ask. She had prepared an answer to this question.

"Last night you gave this to His Majesty’s wolf. If I may ask, what is in the mortar?"

Arielle explained about the flower that she did not know the name of. "Ronan said he smelled something, and I thought maybe she smelled this flower."

"This is from a flower?"

"Umm ... yeah, it’s shaped like grass with a small green stem tip that has white bell-like flowers."

"Where did you find it?"

Arielle did not prepare an answer to that question. She became nervous. Whatever answer she gave would definitely sound like a lie, because everyone knew that Northendell’s land couldn’t grow plants like that flower.

Arielle remembered Priest Louise’s greenhouse, which was filled with different kinds of plants.

"I... stole it from Priest Louise’s greenhouse," Arielle replied nervously.

Priest Elis tried to remember the types of flower that matched Arielle’s description. He snapped his fingers when he remembered something.

"Is that a Snowdrop flower?"

Arielle was honest when she said she didn’t know the name. In the South, there was no such flower, so Arielle had absolutely no idea what kind of flower it was. Priest Elis described the shape of the flower in one of the notebooks he was carrying, and Arielle confirmed it.

"Yes, it is true. This is what it looks like!"

"Ah... this is a typical Northendell flower that is on the verge of extinction." Arielle was so surprised when Priest Elis said the flower was almost extinct. "My father keeps trying to grow it at home so Northendell doesn’t lose its identity."

Long time ago, the Snowdrop flower was used by their ancestors to predict the time of spring. However, as time passed and spring didn’t come for a long time, the Snowdrop flower slowly ceased to appear, except on some very rare occasions.

It usually appeared in the middle of the year along with the Frostberry fruit harvest season when the temperature in the North was not too cold.

Because the Snowdrop flower grew at the end of every late winter before spring, this plant was often called the flower of hope. It brought the hope of many people to be reunited with spring.

It was also one of the reasons Priest Louise always planted them and kept the Snowdrops alive, so that Northendell citizens would continue to hope of meeting spring.

Arielle did not know that the flower was very sacred to the Northerners. She wanted to rectify her lie earlier, but Arielle couldn’t think of any other reason.

"You don’t have to worry. Father would understand if the flower was taken for the king. And picking up a bunch won’t make the Snowdrops extinct. Father definitely still has some of the seeds."

"Re-really?"

Priest Elis nodded. He tried to smile to ease the princess’ worry. To be honest, he had some doubts because there were so many strange things in Arielle’s story.

However, Priest Elis kept his mouth shut. He would still trust the princess. He knew Arielle didn’t have bad intentions, even though she hid the truth.

However... the way Arielle used the Snowdrop flower was something Priest Elis had absolutely never thought of. He remembered the strange scent Ronan had smelled before.

Ronan said there was a bit of spring sweetness. Snowdrop had a distinct, fresh honey-like scent that was usually found in spring when flowers produced their best nectar.

"That’s all right, Your Highness. I’m actually very grateful to you because at least we know what scent will calm the wolf for next full moon night."

"Ah, one more thing, Priest Elis."

Arielle raised her index finger, showing a minor cut that was no longer bleeding. However, the wound still looked new.

"Er... I don’t know if this helps or not. However, when I chopped up the flower before I ground it, my hand was scratched and my blood accidentally fell into the mortar. It mixed with the flower."

Priest Elis held his chin thoughtfully. He nodded in understanding. "I will take note of it, Your Highness. Thank you for helping us."

"W-with pleasure."

Arielle was able to breathe again after Priest Elis left the room. William, who listened to their conversation, didn’t understand what they were talking about in the slightest.

The doctor had finished treating Ronan’s wounds. Nothing serious other than a few minor wounds caused by the impact of his wolf banging its head on the iron bars.

"What about his fever, Doctor?" Arielle asked.

"His fever had gone down, and His Majesty said his body is not as weak as before."

Arielle held onto the wall to keep herself from falling to the floor. She was very relieved. Even though the man’s head was injured, at least there were no fatal wounds, and Ronan was not as weak as yesterday.

"His Majesty is currently resting, but he asked you to visit him," said the doctor, conveying the message from Ronan.

William, who was on guard, felt relieved to hear that. He thanked the doctor and the priest. Because Ronan was fine, he could take a rest. Arielle also told him to rest because since yesterday William, Kael, and Lazarus had been on guard without sleeping. She didn’t want anyone else to get sick.

Inside the infirmary room, everything was all white. Arielle approached Ronan carefully. The man sat while leaning on the headboard. When he sensed someone’s presence, he turned his head and smiled to find Arielle visiting him.

Ronan extended his hand, asking Arielle to come closer.

"Are you okay?" Arielle asked. She touched the bandage on the man’s head gently.

"Much better than yesterday," he replied simply.

Ronan wrapped his arms around Arielle’s waist and pulled her closer to his embrace. She leaned her side on his body comfortably. The dirt on the bottom of Arielle’s dress caught Ronan’s attention.

He didn’t know what Arielle had gone through to make her dress get dirty like that, but he was relieved that the girl wasn’t hurt in the slightest.
