Loving The Cursed Werewolf King-Chapter 413: A Hungry Stomach
Aimee ordered thirty pancakes with Frostberry syrup, like Arielle had ordered. Since the stocks were limited, the shop owner asked Aimee to wait a bit.
She had already had breakfast, but smelling the delicious aroma made Aimee couldn’t help but be tempted. She bought a pancake with a sprinkle of sugar on it.
She turned towards the shop window and accidentally saw Lazarus sitting on a bench across the street, clutching his stomach pitifully. Then, she saw a row of various types of bread in front of her.
"Fuck it," she cursed.
Lazarus tried to distract himself from feeling hungry. He tried to count the number of street lights, but it failed. Then, he tried to pay attention to the surrounding people, but it failed again because the settlement was very quiet, even though it was fairly large, like a village in general.
Long ago, when the late queen was still alive, Lazarus remembered well that the settlement was quite crowded. He certainly remembered because he often participated in the festivals in this place to celebrate the queen’s birthday.
However, after the previous queen died, there were no more festivals. Slowly, the place was abandoned. It was like other rural problems where the younger generation preferred to find work in the capital city, leaving the rural areas with less productive older generations and children.
Lazarus knew because he had heard Ronan discuss this with William. In the end, the young people who could not find work in the capital chose the fast way by stealing and joining bandits, especially at this time.
Ronan had negotiated to make a route that would connect Thebis and Wolgast Kingdoms. However, the bandits who occupied the neutral area began to expand their actions to enter the northern border. It made Ronan annoyed because they only caused conflict.
Ronan had changed the position of the Duke involved in that matter many times because they failed to deal with it. Lazarus laughed when William pushed him to take the place of the last Duke that Ronan had stripped of his power because the Duke had joined in hand with a group of bandits to take over the area.
At that time, Lazarus almost died of laughing too much because he still liked the ocean rather than sitting in the cold North while working on papers he didn’t understand in the slightest. His father was a Duke, and he even repeatedly refused his father’s request to take his place.
Lazarus had yet to find a reason that could really make him stay longer in the North. The ocean was wider, and there were no rules there, so Lazarus felt more free to do whatever he wished.
Finally, Lazarus forgot about the growl of his stomach. He thought about the possibility of staying longer in the North, but he also missed the smell of the sea and the sun. He was so absorbed in his thought that he didn’t realize Aimee was approaching him.
It was only when Aimee arrived in front of him that Lazarus stopped daydreaming. Aimee offered him something without saying anything.
"Aimee?"
"Do you want it or not?" Aimee asked, making Lazarus quickly accept the paper bag.
"Thank you," he said.
"Hmm."
Aimee sat on the same bench where Lazarus was. She... wanted to do the same thing as Arielle did. Speaking like adults with the person she had problems with. She was so amazed when she saw Arielle who managed to talk to Ronan.
Aimee knew what happened because William had told her. All due to Lazarus accidentally kicking a pile of snow to the princess’s face. When she first heard that, Aimee was completely speechless. She just shook her head because she didn’t know how to respond.
Lazarus ate the pancake filled with honey voraciously.
"You still remember that I like honey?" Lazarus asked with his mouth full of food. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"It was just a coincidence," she replied simply.
Aimee glanced at Lazarus biting the hot pancake. She frowned at the honey dripping from the corner of the man’s lips. She wished Lazarus could eat more quietly.
She knew that Lazarus was hungry because before entering the shop, Aimee heard a rumbling sound from the man’s stomach. However, even though he was very hungry, it didn’t mean that Lazarus had to eat that greedily.
Lazarus finished his pancake in one big bite. He folded the paper and used it to clean his hands and mouth, which had honey on them.
"Ugh," groaned Aimee, who didn’t like the sight. And like it or not, Aimee also offered his handkerchief to Lazarus.
Lazarus folded the small white cloth that Aimee gave him in bewilderment.
"What is this?"
"You don’t know what a handkerchief is?" Aimee asked, not believing that Lazarus was so stupid that he didn’t know what a handkerchief was.
"I know if it’s a handkerchief, but why did you give it to me?" asked Lazarus, still staring at the handkerchief strangely.
"Look at yourself, so dirty. Throw that paper bag in the trash can and use this handkerchief to clean your mouth," Aimee replied.
Lazarus received the handkerchief, then threw the paper into the trash can beside the bench. He could smell Aimee’s perfume there.
"Well... I will return it tomorrow after I wash it." He spoke softly.
"You don’t have to. You can just throw it away," Aimee replied.
Lazarus felt that there was something strange about Aimee right now. This was the first time they had spoken casually without shouting and blaming each other. Was now the right time for Lazarus to apologize again?
"Aimee."
"Lazarus."
Aimee and Lazarus looked at each other, then averted their gaze quickly.
"You go first."
"You go first."
The two spoke again at the same time.
"Okay."
"Okay."
Aimee and Lazarus looked at each other again. This time they stared at each other for a long time until they both laughed at the same time, laughing at the strange atmosphere between them.
Aimee, who first realized that she was laughing with Lazarus, quickly changed her expression into a serious one. Meanwhile, Lazarus held his stomach, which was hurting from laughing too much.
