Chapter 426: The Confusion

A doctor was treating Lazarus. He said Lazarus had no serious injuries. The man just fainted, probably from the shock he experienced. Surprisingly, until now, Lazarus hadn’t regained consciousness.

Ronan frowned suspiciously. He was very sure that his punch must be much harder than Aimee’s punch, but why didn’t Lazarus regain his consciousness?

Aimee hadn’t told the reason why she hit Lazarus. She only said that she hit him out of surprise and she didn’t mean anything bad. Aimee actually wanted to tell the truth, but she couldn’t because everyone was gathered there, including William and her brother, Kael.

It was getting late. Waiting for Lazarus to come to his senses also seemed futile. After the doctor left Lazarus’ room, Ronan told Arielle to go back to her room to rest because she had other activities tomorrow morning.

Aimee also couldn’t stand constantly being asked, so she chose to take the princess back to her room. Leaving Ronan, William, and Kael sitting on the couch, waiting for Lazarus, who either fainted or fell asleep.

"Aren’t you curious about what happened to your sister and Lazarus?" William asked Kael, who had been silent all this time. The man didn’t even open his mouth to make a sound.

Kael didn’t answer. He honestly wondered why Aimee hit Lazarus. He had already had a serious talk with Lazarus to stop teasing his sister, and Lazarus said that since seeing each other again, Lazarus had tried to not annoy Aimee at all. Instead, he tried to apologize for his past mistakes.

Kael trusted Lazarus’s words, and a few days ago, Lazarus said Aimee was not as grumpy as she used to be. Even though Aimee had not completely forgiven Lazarus, Lazarus could talk normally with his sister.

Aimee also rarely told him what happened to her. Kael only knew one side of the story from Lazarus. He felt that Aimee was closer to Princess Arielle than him, her older brother. Kael wanted Aimee to lean on him too. He also wanted to be involved in his sister’s affairs, but it was difficult for Kael to express what was on his mind.

Kael didn’t know what made him grow up to be the most quiet person in the North, even though his family was a harmonious family. His mother was the talkative type, and his younger siblings were also the talkative type.

Maybe Kael was a person who didn’t like to be involved in conflict. If there was a dispute, Kael was more likely to distance himself from getting involved.

Kael also didn’t like to argue, so no matter what order Ronan or Arielle gave, Kael never refused, like Lazarus often did. The example was this afternoon when Princess Arielle assigned Lazarus to look after Aimee and not himself.

Kael wanted to say that he could take care of his sister. However, he chose to remain silent and follow the princess’ orders without the slightest refusal.

Maybe that was why Kael rarely voices his opinion, and over time, Kael became more comfortable with being a quiet person.

"I’m sure Kael wants to know what happened. After all, this concerns his sister, Aimee," said Ronan, voicing Kael’s thoughts so precisely.

"Seriously, I really want to have a quiet day without Lazarus getting into trouble," William said, making Ronan and Kael smile.

"What he did sometimes was quite entertaining, if it’s not dealing with me. Maybe a few days ago, if Lazarus had kicked a pile of snow to Aimee’s or your lover’s face, I would have burst out laughing in my office. Unfortunately, out of many people, he actually made me lose control by kicking a pile of snow at Arielle," said Ronan, making William want to laugh. However, he held it in because Ronan definitely didn’t want him to laugh at what happened before. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

But, what Ronan said was absolutely true. Crimson incident had also entertained William. Seeing Lazarus being overwhelmed caring for a baby with a panicked face always managed to cheer him up.

"Lazarus said he would return to sailing after your wedding?" he asked.

"After Arielle’s coronation," Ronan corrected as he accepted the glass of whiskey William had poured him.

"Another lonely year," William muttered.

"And quiet," said Kael, opening his voice for the first time in response to William’s words, making William burst out laughing as well as Ronan.

When William and Ronan were busy talking about the king’s wedding preparations, they suddenly heard the sound of someone groaning. The three men turned towards Lazarus’ bed and saw Lazarus trying to get up from his sleep while holding his nose.

"Are you okay?" William asked while offering him a glass of water, which Lazarus accepted gratefully.

"I think so. Where am I now?" he asked, glancing to the left and right.

"In your own room," replied William, taking back the empty glass that Lazarus had already drunk.

"Oh...." Lazarus let out a long breath like an exhausted person, then he realized what had happened moments before he passed out. Lazarus hastily threw away his blanket and stood up, and shouted. "Aimee!"

"It’s late. You can apologize tomorrow," said Ronan, who still wanted to share whiskey with Kael and William.

"Me? Apologize to her? Aimee should be the one apologizing to me. He punched me in the face!"

Kael stood up from his couch to approach Lazarus. The fiery Lazarus instantly shrank at the sight of the big man approaching him. Maybe Kael would hit him too? Lazarus raised his hands to cover his face, but what he found was Kael bowing his head while apologizing.

"I’m sorry for my sister," Kale said, making Lazarus feel uncomfortable with his best friend.

He looked at the faces of the people in his room. From their calm expressions, it seemed that the three of them had no idea what Aimee had done to him. Lazarus licked his lower lip quickly and helped Kael to stand up straight.

"It’s alright. Even though this time it wasn’t me who did anything wrong, but I will always forgive Aimee," Lazarus said wisely to Kael.

William asked him the reason Aimee knocked him up, but Lazarus couldn’t tell him when Kael was still there. He didn’t want to break Kael’s feelings when the man knew his sister... ahem... kissed Lazarus first. Thinking about it again made Lazarus blush.

Until midnight, William kept trying to ask the same question. However, for the first time, Lazarus’ mouth was tightly shut, making William even more curious about what Aimee had done so that Lazarus didn’t reveal the slightest secret.

Ronan started to get bored and left Lazarus’ room, followed by Kael, who returned to do the night patrol. Meanwhile, William started to get drunk, and Lazarus kicked him out of his room because he needed space and time to think about what had happened.

After the room was quiet, Lazarus laid back down, thinking about Aimee and the girl’s feelings.

Aimee was a beautiful girl. Before knowing she was Aimee, Lazarus admitted that he liked her as a woman. However... after knowing that the girl he met was Aimee, Lazarus doubted his feelings.

He didn’t want to be hypocritical. Lazarus was indeed interested in Aimee, but considering Aimee was Kael’s younger sister, Lazarus didn’t dare to go any further.

Aimee’s confession of her feelings earlier still shocked Lazarus. He wasn’t sure he could accept the girl’s feelings. Lazarus positioned his body to the side while biting his thumb.

He was thinking hard because if he rejected Aimee for the second time, there would be a possibility that another man approached her. As he had said before, Aimee was a beautiful girl.

Maybe Dylan! Her friend might be going to snatch Aimee from him!

Lazarus ruffled his long hair, not finding the answer he needed.

Then, there was a knock on the door from outside the room. Lazarus didn’t want to stand up, knowing it might be William who wanted to pick up the remaining bottle of whiskey left on his desk.

"Lazarus?"

Lazarus’ body tensed up. He got out of bed and ran towards the door.

"Aimee."

"I want to finish our conversation earlier."

It seemed that Lazarus knew what answer he would give. He swallowed his saliva, anticipating what happened next.

"You... want to talk inside?" Lazarus asked as he opened the door to his room wider.

Aimee looked at the boundary of the door that separated the floor of the room and outside the room. Her heart was beating fast. It felt like if she took one step in, there might be a big change between him and Lazarus later.
