Chapter 894: Painful Reunion (1)

Chapter 894

Elara had collapsed close to her mother’s dead body.

The once-powerful elven queen knelt before the bodies of her dead kids.

Vines coiled around her body, stretching from inside the massive mansion.

Blood gushed out of her abdomen and chest as her lifeless eyes stared at the dead kids before her.

Elara collapsed to her knees.

Tears fell down her eyes like waterworks while she clutched the woman in her arms.

"No, no, no, no... this can’t be happening. Mum, mum. You can’t go this way. Wake up already!"

Turning her gaze towards her dead elder siblings, she began nudging them, shaking them.

Her elder brother was also on the ground in a pool of blood.

His corpse was charred.

"Langris, wake up bro. Did-didn’t you want to become the next ruler of this community? Didn’t you want to surpass dad? Why-why are you on the ground? Sta-stand up damn it!" Elara screamed as she crawled through the pool of blood towards her family.

Screaming at them while shedding tears.

Grey, on the other hand, didn’t attempt to move an inch as he stared at the ruin that had fallen upon the elven community.

"Th-The Otherworlders attacked this place? Why?" he muttered with a confused look on his face.

The dead bodies that littered the surroundings weren’t only that of elves but also mages, warriors and beasts.

He recognized the pattern from when a large-scale attack was launched at him.

Mages, warriors and even beasts had been part of the assault.

Seeing these three different races and powers on the ground, he came to the conclusion that it was the Otherworlders who had attacked.

Why had they done so? He didn’t know.

But if they were able to get old man Jankis, who was on the ground bleeding, then the force that attacked must have been powerful.

Occasionally, screams of pain could be heard from the female elf as she kept pounding her head against the ground.

Clenching his hand, Grey turned his head in the direction of the massive house.

Before he could say anything else, the building shuddered and then crumpled, with splinters flying in different directions, almost hitting Elara—but she didn’t notice.

And then from the crumpled building, a man could be seen standing there... bleeding.

His golden hair was a mangled mess.

Blood matted his body, almost making him look unrecognizable.

His once-powerful form was reduced to a joke as he almost collapsed to his knees but forced himself to wobble forward.

In one hand, a dead body was being dragged.

Grey instantly recognized the body as that of a mage.

... An incredibly powerful one when it was alive.

In his other hand, the man held the fingers of a small figure.

A young girl who looked human compared to the elves.

She was about the age of nine or ten, shuffling behind the elf with a frightened gaze on her face.

"Licht." Grey called out as he stared at the elf, who suddenly paused.

He tilted his head.

Eyes which were blank and unfocused stared at the one who had just called out his name.

It took a few seconds for realization to dawn on him.

"You?"

The elf’s legs gave out on him, causing the small girl behind him to take several steps back as the man was about to hit the ground.

Within a heartbeat, Grey vanished and reappeared before the elf, catching him before he could hit the ground.

Licht stared at the mage before him with a sad expression on his face.

"Ah... after so long, we meet again, Grey. So sad that we have to meet in this condition. Yo-You had to see me in this state. Sad."

Grey stared at the elf in his hands with a neutral expression on his face.

He was sad, yes.

But unfortunately, his emotions had been turned off.

He had witnessed more deaths than he could count for something like this to truly affect him.

"Cough, cough... I-I tried my best in-in protecting and-and training her," Licht uttered amidst ragged coughs.

Grey lifted an eyebrow in confusion when—

"Brother Grey?"

The same girl that had been standing behind the elf called out, causing the mage to freeze in shock.

The voice... it sounded so... so familiar.

Jerking his head up, he could finally see the girl’s face properly.

A sudden well of emotions immediately washed over him, almost overwhelming him.

"Je-Je-Jesse? Yo-You are alive?!" Grey shouted in pure, undiluted shock.

****

"Brother Grey! It really is you!" the girl shouted in pure exhilarated joy as she rushed over at full speed.

Elara heard the shout and turned around to see her father in Grey’s grasp, causing her to rush forward and snatch him from the mage’s hold.

The Supreme Magus staggered to his feet, eyes still widened in pure surprise at who he was seeing before him.

Jesse... a young girl his mother had saved from the jaws of death during a portal outbreak that almost claimed his mum’s life back then.

The girl had been orphaned in that same outbreak when his mum risked her life to save her.

An action that made the mage develop immense anger towards the girl for days.

Until he was forced to accept her, and their bond grew, making the mage accept the girl as the sister... the sibling he never had.

The day his mum was murdered, he scanned the whole house for her, but there was no sign of the girl, which made the mage think that she had been killed.

But he was wrong. Jesse was standing before him, very, very much alive.

"Brother Grey!" Jesse shouted again, this time certain of who she was seeing before her.

With a speed she definitely didn’t have before, the girl rushed forward with tears in her eyes as she leaped, Grey extending his arms and catching her.

Spinning around for a few seconds with the little girl in his grasp, tears streamed down the mage’s face.

"Oh, Jesse. You-you are alive."

"Brother Grey," Jesse cried into the mage’s shoulder.

Wailing like a little toddler as she kept slamming her small knuckles into his body.
