Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 71: That Posture, Somewhat Reminiscent of Seraphina Thorne
Ethan Sterling glanced at his watch and turned to look at Chloe Foster.
The girl frowned, her eyes pitifully focused on him.
That demeanor had a resemblance to Seraphina Thorne.
Ethan’s heart softened, ultimately deciding to agree.
"Let’s go!"
Chloe’s eyes reflected joy, though her face showed a hint of apology.
"I’m really sorry for causing you so much trouble today."
"It’s nothing." Ethan shrugged, his tone indifferent, "Your brother and I are good friends, it’s only right to take care of his sister."
Upon hearing "take care of sister," a shadow of sadness flashed in Chloe’s eyes.
Noticing her standing still, Ethan stopped walking.
"Are you coming?"
"Oh... I’m coming!"
Chloe smiled again and followed him.
The two walked out of the emergency center, and as they descended the stairs, Chloe paused.
"Can I hold onto you?"
Ethan glanced at the bandage on her knee and reached out to support her arm.
Helping Chloe down the steps, Ethan hailed a taxi and opened the rear door for her.
Once Chloe was seated in the back, Ethan closed the door and got into the front passenger seat.
"Sovereign Villa District."
Delivering Chloe to the gate of the Foster Villa, Ethan helped her up the steps.
Chloe took out a key to open the door, warmly inviting him.
"You haven’t had dinner yet, right? Come in, I’ll make you something to eat?"
Ethan stood at the door, "No need."
Chloe leaned against the door, "My brother will be back soon, didn’t you say before that there was a case you needed his help with?"
"I’ll talk to him at the office later, it’s not urgent. You get some rest, I’m leaving now."
Turning around, Ethan strode down the steps.
Chloe stood by the window, watching Ethan’s figure from afar.
She picked up her phone, wanting to take a photo.
By the time she had her phone out, Ethan had already turned onto the path leading to the Thorne Villa.
Chloe managed to capture a not-so-clear silhouette in the darkness.
Reaching the Thorne Villa, Ethan took a key from his pocket to open the door, entering the villa.
After several days of cleaning, the entire villa was spotless.
All the furniture remained in their original positions.
The vase on the coffee table now held fresh flowers.
Ethan walked through the villa, inspecting every room upstairs and downstairs.
Noticing the sheet music on the piano wasn’t placed correctly, he reached out to straighten it, smiling with satisfaction.
"Mrs. Sterling will surely love this little surprise!"
Turning off the lights, locking the door, Ethan descended the steps, slipping the key ring into his coat pocket.
His fingers brushed against a document, given to him by Seraphina Thorne.
Ethan took out his phone and called Sean Hale.
"Pick me up outside Sovereign Villa District immediately."
"Right now?" Sean sounded surprised, "Didn’t you say you had other plans tonight?"
"Something urgent came up, hurry up." Ethan paused, then added, "Bring me some dinner, keep it simple. Also, call Attorney Clayton and have him come too, I need to show him some documents."
The document from Seraphina could very well be crucial evidence to overturn Caleb Thorne’s case.
Adrian Chamberlain would surely have his defenses up as well.
This matter couldn’t be delayed; the sooner investigated, the better it would be for Caleb Thorne.
Thinking of Seraphina, Ethan pressed the speed dial and called her.
On the other end.
Seraphina was just getting out of the car with a bag of fruit.
Seeing Ethan’s name on the screen, she coughed lightly, composing herself.
"Hello?"
"I might be very late tonight, don’t wait up for me, my dear."
Seraphina held the phone, her lips moved, but she only replied with a "Okay."
As a nominal wife, she had no right to ask him who the girl was.
Ending the call, Seraphina carried the fruit into the elevator.
Back at the apartment, she sat at her desk, continuing to write her graduate project.
With Ethan not home, she didn’t have to deal with him in bed, allowing her to focus on her own work.
Logically, she should be happy.
Yet sitting at the desk, Seraphina found herself unable to calm down.
Her mind continuously played images of Ethan next to the surgical table, gently comforting the girl.
They must be together now, right?
Either having dinner, or...
Intimate.
Her mind couldn’t find inspiration at all.
Frustrated, Seraphina tossed her pen onto the desk, grabbing her phone.
Unlocking the phone, she found herself on the WeChat page.
Seraphina casually opened her social circle and came across Chloe Foster’s post.
[Cherish: Tonight, thank you for your comfort and companionship.]
Below was a captioned photo.
A silhouette on the pathway in the night.
Seeing the name "Cherish," Seraphina smirked.
Unexpectedly, Chloe Foster’s WeChat name was so similar to hers.
Looking at the tall figure in the photo, Seraphina smiled softly.
This must be the person Chloe mentioned she liked, right?
With her right hand, Seraphina willingly gave her a like.
Recalling Commander Quincy’s mention of recruiting a violinist for the orchestra, she switched to the chat interface and opened the dialogue box.
[Cherish (Seraphina’s WeChat name): Our orchestra needs a violinist, are you interested?]
Chloe didn’t reply to the WeChat message, she called back directly.
"Really, that’s wonderful, Miss Thorne, thank you so much."
"No need for thanks, Miss Foster. Our orchestra was already planning to recruit openly, I just happened to think of you and wanted to give you a heads-up."
"Regardless, thank you. By the way..." Chloe laughed softly, "We’re all friends, feel free to call me by my name from now on."
"Alright." Seraphina laughed back, "I’ll send you Commander Quincy’s email, send your resume there, I’ll mention this to him tomorrow."
After arranging the details, Seraphina hung up the call.
Looking at the chat history on her phone, Seraphina felt a hint of envy.
Not needing to worry about family matters, free from responsibility and pressure, just enjoying life. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
At this moment, Chloe seemed like her former self.
Unfortunately...
Such days were no longer reachable for her.
Returning to the master bedroom, Seraphina took a shower, found her sleeping pills in the drawer, swallowed two, and lay down.
The pills swiftly took effect, pulling her into a deep sleep.
Ten thirty.
Ethan returned to The Paramount Gardens, placing his computer bag on the table, he quietly entered the master bedroom.
The master bedroom was dim, Seraphina sleeping alone in the center of the large bed.
Ethan reached out to adjust her position but seeing her sleep so soundly, he felt reluctant.
"Alright, I’ll let you have the bed tonight."
He bent down and gently kissed her forehead.
Ethan quietly walked into the dressing room, took a set of pajamas, and left the master bedroom.
The next morning, Seraphina was awakened by the alarm.
Opening her eyes, she didn’t see Ethan, yet she wasn’t surprised.
She assumed he spent the night with that girl.
After a simple wash-up and change of clothes, Seraphina left the master bedroom yawning.
Reaching the living room, she was startled to see Ethan sitting at the dining table, reviewing documents.
"You... why are you home?"
