Chapter 102: Twenty- Eight Days

One thing Evangeline was glad off was the fact that she wasn’t that crazily obsessed with Ree-ree until the point of still wanting him after knowing who he truly was. She was slowly able to detach herself from him, and she made herself it would be easier if she tried to forget everything they once shared when he was still Ree-ree. Maybe there was a good reason why those memories were once foggy. She cooperated with her parents and family in their attempts to sever her bond with her second chance mate forcefully. They would rather have her as a lone wolf without any connection to her second chance mate than have the savior of the world get bonded forever to who she was destined to destroy.

Evangeline was shocked at how fast news spread from wall to wall and ear to ear. No one knew how the news of her being mated to the demon prince himself got out of control, but every kingdom talked about it in less than hours and no one has ever been more confused at what tricks the goddess was actually playing on them. Making her chosen one mated to the enemy? It just doesn’t make any sense, no matter how many angles they tried to look at the situation from.

Her mother was the most restless and angered about this. She would go to the moon temple every chance she got to curse at the moon goddess and show her her pain in the best way she could. Grandmother supreme has been the most observant ever since she broke the news to them about the knowledge of her second chance mate.

A mate to the demon prince.

What sort of bad joke was this?

Her dad did the best for her. He gathered all known priest and magicians of the moon. Even summoning some witches to come to his aid to sever the mate bond. Everyone felt like a simple rejection wouldn’t do. It should go deeper like severing the entire line that joins their soul together.

’’But...demons don’t have a soul, right?’’ She found herself whispering as she sat on her bed as expected for the final stages of the ritual of severing the bond to be complete. She should remain bedridden for a whole moon cycle which was twenty-eight days. A red thread induced with a lot of magic bond to her wrist since the beginning of this ritual. Luckily for her, severing a mate bond does not require the participation of both parties. How would they get the demon prince to participate in such a ritual without bringing trouble along with the invitation? She just couldn’t imagine doing this with Ree-ree. A monster she once loved with all of her heart. A murder and destroyer of millions.

How come Ree-ree, a demon has a soul for me to be bonded with?

No matter how hard they tried to understand this the more ridiculous it seems. She just wished this ritual was a success. The least she would want happening to her was to be bound to a heartless monster for the rest of her life in this world.

It was amusing how their God plays with their feelings here a lot.

She fell back on her bed with a sigh. Her head aching the more she overthought everything. She should just trust her werewolf parents and family to take care of this mess.

Ree-ree.

She turned to lay on her side, cuddling her pillows to herself with another sad sigh. She would really wish if someone told her she misunderstood everything. It was weird to know the sweet, loving, and protective Ree-ree she grew up with, knew and loved with all her being could be that cold, merciless monster of the dungeons.

The one that almost had her killed in training while still maintaining a straight face.

It would be unforgivable if he knew who was currently in this body. She would never be able to understand him after. But this eerie feeling that he knows had her heart racing non-stop. A quick flashback of him mumbling her name during the new year festival. The burning dummy behind her which highlighted the sinister glee in his gaze put her in disease. She kept turning and twisting her body at odd angels. Blaming the bed for not making her comfortable or putting her at ease this one time. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

She would close her eyes and try to get it all off her mind but those ethereal and devilish looks of him lingers, and it stole both her sleep and peace of mind.

Eva decided she was done sleeping in bed all day even if it was just day one of the ritual. It was harder trying to forget his face when she remained in one position. Her bare feet moved around the empty walls of her castle and leading her to the courtroom. A lot of drama frequently happens in here. Probably if she stays here all day and distracts herself with all the court issues and all—she would finally know peace.

Everyone paused from whatever they were doing when she stepped in looking drained and shoeless.

’’Evangeline,’’ her mother cried out knowing her daughter has ruined all of their efforts in severing the bond the moon god wickedly put between them and the demon prince. All eyes fell on her as she remained at the door looking at everyone for their sympathy. It’s easy telling her to remain on her bed for twenty-eight days straighter than her actually going through it. ’’Darling, why did you leave your room when the priest said you should not?’’

Her mother called her over to herself with an outstretched arm. Eva sheepishly glanced at the priest who has been charged with severing her bond with the demon prince. He looked as if he wanted her head staked and boiled in a hot point for not being enduring enough.

She climbed the stairs to where her mother was seated beside her father and settled on the smaller one right beside her mothers throne with a tired sigh.

’’Is there no other way around this?’’

Her mother shook her head sympathetically at her.

’’Can’t I just tell... God that I don’t want this and have her reverse her error?’’

Her mother wished that it was that easy. They have spoken with mother supreme already to plead with the moon god about this, but she reported back to them of being ghosted by the moon goddess, and they were encouraged not to take this with fear but with faith.

’’I would have given her a hot slap on the face for doing this to my baby and dragging her on the butt until she does the right thing if I was given the chance to do so.’’

Eva leaned more to her mother’s loving kiss on her forehead. Everything seemed under control until the large doors to the courtroom was sent flying of its hinge several feet inside the room and crashing violently in their midst alarming everyone including the Alpha King.
