Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 107: Him
"You look beautiful," her father complimented as they waited behind the large doors of the newly renovated holy courtroom of Astoria. It brought a small smile to her face as he held her still, as if sensing her backup plan to run and leave everything behind in case she feels like not being able to do it anymore.
"And don’t worry about anything. You will be fine and you will do well because I will never leave your back. I will be present at all times to support you and..."
She turned in shock when he broke out into an s sob. His hands trembling around hers, which scared her a bit. Is it that horrific to be the alpha king or what?
"...forgive me for allowing the goddess to force this down upon your shoulders when it is clear you are not ready, but you pretend to be."
Eva’s attention returned to the doors. It’s now established who her true enemies were. The first on the list being her darling Ree-ree and the other being the god of this world.
A devil and a God, both against her.
She couldn’t stop the feeling of one of them being responsible for her forceful transmigration into this world. A big part of her shows her it was Ree-ree’s doing.
Eva clenched her fist hard and tensed up the more the moment the doors open inwards to reveal the beautiful seat of power of the werewolves. Every single individual, both commoner and elite invited to her wedding/coronation ceremony stood on their feet as she walked to the new statue of the moon goddess at the end of the aisle. Two priests who would be orchestrating the ceremony stood before the idolized statue of the moon goddess, and beside them was the handsome form of Xalith.
She didn’t fail to notice the smile that warmed his face at her entrance. His eyes following her every move, and she thought he also agreed to her being ridiculous or overly dressed for this.
Her father led her until she climbed the small steps to stand beside Xalith facing him. They were to start with joining them in holy matrimony first before making her the new Alpha King of Astoria. Although many weren’t genuinely excited about this because Xalith wasn’t her mate. Only mates should get gathered like this and not a friend or a mere lover.
Eva noticed the tall, looming figure of the first priest clothed from head to toe in a flashing red robe. Half of his face concealed by the hoddeed cap and his head lowered as if in shame. Two golden cuffs firmly around his wrist as he held on to her crown while the other shorter less intimidating priest stepped forward towards them to joined her and Xalith together.
He gave her a huge, loving smile as he held both cups rumored to be contained with the diluted version of the moon water. Werewolves don’t exchange rings to be joined as one, like they do back in her world. They speak their vows to the cup and drink out of it, and that’s it.
From where she stood, she spotted Andrea and her cousins; Layla and Sisi cheering her up from where they were seated. It looked like Layla and Sisi would burst into tears, hug and cry non-stop on each other as they were so proud of her!
She finally made eye contact with Xalith, her beautiful soon to be elf husband and substitute mate, and tried to make her forced smile at him be as genuine as possible. She remembered the first day they met, and she never imagined he would be the one to get her out from the ill-fated relationship she unfortunately shared with her real love.
Who turned out to be a psychotic demon she has been trusted with his end?
He looked the proudest of her, and she allowed him to hold her hands when he reached out for it. It was written beautiful in his forest green eyes that he was madly in-love with her. Which was the more reason why she never feared what’s going to happen to them after this.
She could just pretend to be interested in him until it is all over. It would have been hard if he was also pretending and his feelings weren’t genuine.
"Your highness, take your cup and share of the eternal and blissful water of the moon, and repeat after me."
Evangeline did as instructed. The vows were long but simple and easy to understand what she was speaking and promising to fulfil before the moon goddess. It summarizes her promises of her undying love for him and her strong will to remain by his side forever.
Xalith was then given the other cup and said a much longer vow. While she stared at her feet as she repeated her vows, he held the gaze with her the entire time until the end of his vows.
"No other woman will get to stand beautifully before me like you do to listen to my vows, Evangeline. "
Eva parted her lips slightly at him. Their eyes meeting each other as they move in sync to understand how high, wide, and deep their love is for each other.
His words brought another smile to her face as she was told by the priest to be the first to drink from the cup. She did so, and Xalith was told to seal this marriage between them by drinking out of his cup.
Which he did, and after another satisfying smile appeared on his lips once more at her as they were now married. Just like he wanted.
Then they all watched as the smile on his face slowly dissolved to the one of discomfort before he spat out a rain of his dark blood all over Eva’s face, causing panic to rise in the whole room.
Eva was the least to react to this. It didn’t make sense to her as Xalith twisted his neck at an odd angle, inciting more fear into the hearts of their guest. His eyes rolled to the very back in less than a second before he fell of the stairs of the alter....
....dead.
The silence that occurred after he fell and became lifeless on the floor was non compared to the horror of his blood dripping heavily from a side of his face and staining her royal dress. The silence died at the sound of her crown rolling to her feet. The attention moving from Xalith’s rapidly decomposing body to the priest in the red dress that dropped her crown.
Hearts were palpitating and Evangeline looked the most anxious at what else could happen apart from her husband dying right after he completed his vow in the most disturbing way.
He slowly pulled down his cap and chaos spread in the whole room as everyone ran helter-skelter in horror. Particularly, the commoners. The ground beneath her feet shook as she also dragged her feet back in trepidation at him.
Him.
