Chapter 47: Jade

Only when you succeed in this task will I accept you as one of us.

The walk home was silent. Only Layla and Sisi found the visit to grandmother supreme pleasurable because they got to use one of her healing rooms and restore their strengths.

Her words played like a haunting melody in her head the entire time. She stepped into her room after bidding Layla and Sisi goodbye who were too engrossed in their excitement to notice her down mood.

Evangeline found herself curled up in a corner not too far from her bed. She noticed it was well-laid from how she left it this morning for her lessons. She was sure whoever came to clean up her room did it for Evangeline and not her.

Whether she likes it or not, or chooses to live this life or not, it would always be Evangeline and not her that would be receiving all their love and kindness. It would all stop the moment they realize they have been feeding and loving the one responsible for the demise of the soul of their real daughter.

She still couldn’t wrap her head around the idea of why she needed to be saved to the point of destroying the soul of a significant figure for her to live.

She looked up at the space before her....her vision blurry due to the tears that refuse to part from her eyes.

The person didn’t even care of what would happen to her if she found out that someone innocent had to be killed for her to live. The ache in her chest intensified, and she found herself not worthy enough to live either.

She doesn’t want people to die for her to live.

She would rather not be pampered and treated like a princess all day.

She didn’t want to be a burden with the purpose of being the savior of this world.

She didn’t want to live.

All she wanted was to be with her imaginary love—-to be in the world where he had a physical form and presence so he could hold, touch, kiss and love her just like she had loved him.

Who would have thought after that date night with her imaginary love, things would never remain the same for her again.

Even though she wanted to kill herself and throw her body off this building and die...she couldn’t. She had already made a promise to live out this life that wasn’t hers until the end.

Even though she found a way to return to her world and be reunited with Ree-ree again...she can’t leave because of this promise.

A small sob escaped her lips as she pulled her legs closer to her body.

This isn’t fair.

She felt trapped and would be forced to remain in this world and in this body forever with the guilt of someone’s terminated existence—someone she had no single idea about or who she was—-would forever rest on her shoulders.

That thought alone was enough to pull off her restraints on her feelings and let the tears stream down her face.

Evangeline sat there until the moon revealed itself high in the sky. The blinds on her window mimicking the dance of the gentle night breeze as her mind continues to sink itself in a pool of thoughts.

’’Ree-ree...’’ She tried again and got no response.

Evangeline turned until her face was on the high ceilings of her room.

Is he also trying to reach her?

It’s been days since their separation.

How would she know he is equally frustrated and sad at their separation?

Didn’t he once tell her a long time ago that no matter what, he would never leave her side? Even if she journeys towards the ends of the earth...all she just needs to do is to blink and call out his name and he would be there to assure her that he was close.

Evangeline couldn’t help the small scoff that left her lips as more tears drained from her eyes.

He was becoming more distant even before she transmigrated into this sick world. He was probably already fed up with her and was slowly withdrawing bit by bit.

Her jaw tightened at the thought but held her breath when the small purple pouch the elf prince gave her was giving out a soft purple glow. Evangeline inched closer to it and carefully removed the small purple jade of life and placed it in her arms and watched it glow.

She brought it so close to herself. The jade gave out a soft rhythmic purple glow before switching to a deep violet color then brightening up her face with its bright light and somehow, her room wasn’t that dark and depressing anymore.

The rhythmic play of colors from the jade brought a smile on her face as her tears slowly began to dry off. Evangeline sniffed as she placed the small jade close to her feet, her arms folded on her laps to accommodate her head as she stared at the jade in admiration.

It’s like he knew she was going to be sobbing her eyes out tonight and thought of gifting her something that would cheer her up.

She should thank him for this tomorrow at school. His gift was not only rare, but it did its magic, and she did not feel all too lonely again.

When a knock sounded on her door that it was time for her to come out and eat, she placed the jade back inside its pouch and watched how the glow dimmed. She made sure to place in the safest place she could think of. She had just seen something else to fill up the lonely place beside her.

Evangeline stepped out and let herself be led away by the maids to the family dinning room to eat.
