Chapter 57: Shouldn’t

He cocked one of his perfectly shaped eyebrow at her as he waited patiently for her answer.

Evangeline looked a bit confused and then conflicted. Prince Xalith didn’t fail to notice her slight retreating steps from him.

No, this was wrong.

She shouldn’t be feeling like this.

She shouldn’t be allowing this or anyone apart from Ree-ree to get this close to her.

Suddenly, her gaze travelled around the empty compound of their school. Many people have left, and they were the only four still on the school premises.

What if he is around and seeing her slowly replacing him with someone else.

He wasn’t going to forgive her, and she might never look at herself the same way again.

She can’t lose someone who has been her life support all this while for some confusing romantic adventure with a fantasy prince.

She can’t do this, no matter if he was beside her or not. Not to talk of the promise she once made to never have him replaced by anyone.

She dragged her feet back again to keep as much distance there should be between them.

She must have looked insane to reject a fairy tale prince who could perfectly play the role of prince charming and not to talk of him having a physical form she could touch, feel, see and even connect with for an imaginary lover she believes he is real but so far not within her reach.

’’I’m sorry, but... I would rather be at home...practicing my moves,’’ was her response.

She expected him to be angry, lash out at her or walk away without saying a thing. She was probably the most ungrateful female to have the most-beautiful character in this world be rejected by her when many are willing to give him a chance.

She didn’t know why she felt a bit of hurt by her decision, but it was the best if she wants to keep Ree-ree as hers.

Prince Xalith just gave her a warm smile and leaned back from her. Both Layla and Sisi staring at Evangeline to ask if she has lost it.

Or maybe she has.

She was deeply going to be sad for the rest of her immortal life if Ree-ree ended up not being by her side again.

It was going to be the most painful thing and taking her life wouldn’t be enough to relieve her from it.

’’That’s fine, Your Highness. I wasn’t expecting you to be interested right away, but you are lucky I am not someone that easily give up either. If you will not be interested now, you would have to change your heart later on. Till then.’’

His fingers brushed aside the loose strands of her hair before he turned to leave. Staring at his retreating form stirred a different feeling in her that she didn’t want to be so scared to welcome or lose.

’’Wait...’’

The feeling had her changing her mind.

She is now a different person. She was no longer Charlotte but Evangeline. What if Ree-ree returns to her side and could not find it in himself to love her the way she was now.

Prince Xalith paused and turned to regard her with a questioning gaze.

Her legs moved on impulse to him.

’’You would bring me back, right?’’

He tilted his head a bit to the side in amusement at her. That was the weirdest way of saying you are interested in going out with someone. Evangeline stared as he turned to his side and conjured up a blue-white portal that appeared concave with the wave of his hands. Energy of different kinds and form were buzzing of it in a rhythmic way. Something that looked like a thin film was oscillating around it and before them.

He turned down to look at her to see if she was impressed.

And indeed she was.

Prince Xalith pushed his hands behind him and nodded for her to step in first. He was going to show her a world through this portal, and she was going to be seeing it with him.

She turned to Layla and Sisi who looked like they were on the verge of crying. They were holding on to each other and looked the most touched by this.

’’I will be back.’’

They nodded at her and each gave her a thumbs up. Encouraging her to have fun with her admirer.

She found herself holding back a blush when he stepped aside. She moved towards the phenomenon she’d always thought only existed in fantasy and magical films. Or was she the one that has been teleported into one.

Another smile cradled her lips as she stared at the portal inviting and drawing her to itself to be taken to places she has never seen or heard before. She turned to look at him one last time before stepping in.

’’Your Highness,’’ Layla called grabbing the prince’s attention. ’’If anything should happen to our Evangeline, get ready to have a pack of angry wolves storming Avalon and tearing your kingdom apart.’’

Prince Xalith only smiled at them and nodded that their princess was in good hands.

’’Nothing will happen to her while I am there. I am not taking her to anywhere dangerous,’’ He added.

That seemed to please Layla and Sisi a lot and gave him a small nod of approval. He stepped in and the portal shrunk to nothing.

Both Layla and Sisi squealed and jumped on their feet in happiness the moment they were gone. They couldn’t be happier that their friend and cousin has found someone who is obviously interested in her.

’’Who needs a mate when you got a sexy Elf prince madly interested in you?’’ Layla said as they continued to bounce on their feet.

’’Not Eva!’’ Sisi replied, and they spent the rest of the evening celebrating. Talking about how Prince Xalith and Evangeline would look good together.
