Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 61: Not Romantic
Her eyes were wide open for the rest of the night. Layla and Sisi came to her for the gist of what happened. She told them everything excluding the gift of the dream that the world gave her. When she told them she kissed him as an act of gratitude for his kindness—they overreacted by telling almost everyone living in the castle that she had secured herself a lover.
Everyone seemed happy about it. Even her mom rushed to her room teasing her and asking how it happened and who fell for who first. Everyone not minding whether they were not mates or not.
’’Why don’t we return to the moon temple and ask the moon goddess to pair you and prince charming together?’’ Layla dumbly suggested with a smirk.
Evangeline had many questions.
’’Do we get to have second chance mates? And it might not be a werewolf?’’
Both Layla and Sisi nodded their heads.
’’As long as we have a soul in us, we could be paired with anyone regardless of who they are. Our Aunt Julie got paired up with a vampire once.’’
’’What happened to that?’’
’’He was the one who rejected her because he was scared he would only view her as food instead of a lover,’’ Layla sighed sadly as if she were born when she happened to witness such a tragedy. ’’It was a pity because they loved and felt something for each other. Her second chance mate turned out to be a werewolf. We only get three chances of having a mate before we are considered a lone wolf.’’
’’What’s a...lone wolf?’’
’’The mateless wolves or those that were rejected by all three of their mates and were not paired anymore by the moon goddess.’’
Wow. Is that even possible?
To be rejected thrice?
It must be so terrible to be a lone wolf.
’’Most lone wolves we’ve had often turned out to be rogues and some derail from the light of the moon to be demons and help the demon prince torment us for life. It is the worst thing that could happen to a wolf. To be rejected not once or twice but all three times. Most people just prefer not to have any mates at all than to have all three and be rejected by them.’’
Layla’s face then deepened in suspicion at her. ’’Come to think of it, Eva, you’ve been asking us many questions, and it is starting to feel like you don’t have any idea of what your world is about.’’
She stared at both of them with a widened gaze before giving them both a sheepish smile and then disappearing under her covers.
’’Goodnight,’’ She whispered and tried to remain as still as possible to give the illusion of being fast asleep. When they left her alone and her room, she laid on her back, staring at the ceilings and sometimes at the colorful jade he gifted her.
The rarest gift in the world.
Why would someone give her something so rare?
What exactly is his gain in all of this?
She started to overthink many things again until the sun began to peak from the sky. Evangeline dragged herself from the bed and got herself dressed without any help. She had a quick breakfast with Layla and Sisi before heading to school as fast as they could.
She didn’t realize how embarrassing what she did to the Elf prince last night was until she locked eyes on him and hid herself behind her friends.
Her heart raced a million beats per second, and it was difficult to calm it down. It was also the worst when all your schoolmates have enhanced hearing abilities, and they could hear the pounding of their chest, everyone throwing her curious looks to see what was wrong.
She held her breath when the prince rounded her friends she used as a shield to smile down at her in amusement. Even though her eyes closed shut the moment he appeared before her line of sight, she could still feel that arrogant smirk on his face.
’’Your Highness, what happened? Who are you hiding from?’’
Her cheeks burned a darker shade of red, and she couldn’t stop herself from melting away in embarrassment. Layla and Sisi giggling annoyingly behind her like some romantic idiots, and she really hoped the ground swallowed people because she would like to be its victim now.
Evangeline opened her eyes and took a shy peak of him.
God, she has never been this shy before anyone. How was he doing this?!
He looked heavenly as expected. His long hair tied neatly into a tight bun. His face pale and fresh and his eyes greener than ever.
The next thing she did was to chuckle awkwardly before him and shook her head that she wasn’t hiding from anyone. Not that she did anything offensive to anyone the day before, why would she hide?
How was she going to make him understand that her kiss meant nothing romantically. But it was her way of showing him that she really appreciates and acknowledges all his efforts. But the frequent smile on his face the more he looked at her made her feel so bad for giving him a wrong message last night.
’’Uh...we shouldn’t be late for our first class of the day. Should we?’’
He nodded and did the next interesting thing by holding her hands and leading them down to the classroom. She looked at him telling him to let go, but he refused.
Everyone looked and had something to say to this. There was nothing she could say that would convince them that nothing romantic is happening between them.
It was weird being held like that.
They sat beside each other as usual and his hand never departed from hers. This act earned a curious eyebrow from their rather uninterested teacher. She stared at him begging and hoping when he would stop drawing unnecessary attention to them.
’’Uhm...’’ she leaned so close to him until it was only her and him that could hear her thoughts. ’’When would you let go of my hands?’’ She tried to sound as polite as she could, having a nervous smile on her lips.
The Elf’s Prince eyes sparkled before leaning close to answer her question.
’’Until I don’t feel like holding them anymore.’’
The girl blinked wondering when was that going to happen.
