Chapter 63: Murder?

’’Now, you can see why I promised you it wasn’t over between us.’’

Evangeline’s heart stilled when Alpha Jack gazed down at her with a smile enough to haunt her for life. She stared at him not wanting to believe someone could stoop so low to terrorize a woman in the middle of nowhere. She saw from the corner of her eyes the other hooded figures had let down their caps, and she figured they were all members of his pack.

Her lips parted in shock as she locked eyes with her ex-mate. The knives were still in his hold as he glared down at her like she was the most disgusting thing he had ever seen. Evangeline rose to her feet, dusting off the snow particles from her behind and pulling her bag from the ground.

Alpha Jack raised an amused eyebrow at her as he saw she was no longer afraid of him. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Evangeline stepped left, then right, but he mirrored her every move, his broad frame cutting off every escape.

She questioned him with a stare while still trying to maintain her unbothered look. He assaulted her nose with his overwhelming body odor.

God knows when last his body had contact with water.

Layla once told her that the Jaggering Teeth pack were a unique set of wolves. They move from one place to another and lack a pack house. They are known as travelers and move in groups. Fierce warriors and known hunters. Personal hygiene is not really necessary when you are always on the move and hunting with each breath you take.

But still, it shouldn’t be an excuse to smell so horrid like dead rats and child vomit.

She had many things to be grateful for and if Evangeline were alive, she sure she would also be grateful to reject such a vile thing.

’’What?’’ she whispered when he wouldn’t stop breathing down her face. A small gasp escaped her lips when he brought one of the sharp knives under her chin. A heart stopping sensation overtook her when she felt the edges of the cold blade pressing under her chin, her eyes widening at him wondering if he was grave about killing her in the middle of nowhere.

Evangeline tried moving back.

’’Move one more time and the last thing you will see is my face,’’ he growled with his awful breath. Evangeline didn’t know which was going to take her life at this point.

The knife or his stale odor.

’’We never agreed you would reject me on the night of our mating ceremony, Princess? We never said you will have the guts—’’ he yanked her close, his hands tightening around her neck, cutting off her breath. ’’----to reject my claim on you.’’

His midnight orbs regarding her with malice.

Evangeline’s hands fisted around his as she struggled to breathe. His hold tightening around hers until the point of making her agitated and desperate to be freed. The look on her and the blood that rose to her face showed the pain and the trauma he was putting her through. His hold around her felt like her lips were sealed shut with a tape and a funnel was inserted into her nostrils to fill it up with water non-stop.

In her past and this life, she had never craved to breathe this hard before until she was within his grasp. Bloodied scratches from her nails on his large hands didn’t bother him a bit. His gaze darkened on her with determination to end her life.

’’You have forgotten what I know about you that the world doesn’t know. Yet, you tried to pull that little stunt with me? I will make you pay with your life, Evangeline.’’

The urgent taps on his hold, the tears that streamed down her face for him to have mercy and let her go wasn’t compared to the cold, sharp feeling of the knife slowly cutting through the side of her neck.

Her vision grows blur with each passing second. Her lungs feeling like they want to explode in her chest and her mind hazy with the lingering thought of going through death once again.

’’Maybe then you will atone for your sins. The one we both try so hard not to let the world know about.’’

The cluster of memories of this body all trying to make sense to her at once had her eyes rolling to the back.

She was standing on a large frozen body of water. A bow and an arrow in-between her fingers as she pulled on tight to the strings, aiming with eyes set on her prey as her hands dripped with blood.

She almost died with shock at who she was aiming at. A small child not less than seven years old cried her eyes out in fear as she stood on thin ice not knowing the situation she was in.

Bloodlust shining through her glacial eyes like a torch, and she had this psychotic disturbing smile drawn on her lips as she pulled harder on the bow.

The last thing she heard was the ice breaking beneath the little girl’s feet as the arrow was fired. It pierced the center of her forehead, the tip of the arrow coming through the back as she sank to her death and was overwhelmed by the freezing water beneath.

’’How we saw you lure your little sister, Anya to that place and kill her because you couldn’t handle her stealing all the attention you got from everyone. You thought once she was a bit older your family might no longer notice you exist. And we all know always being the center of attention like a fucking whore has always been your sick addiction and weakness.’’

He hissed with venom so close to her ears. His hold around her neck loosened suddenly, and she found herself stumbling hard on the floor to catch her breaths. There were so many things to process all at once but breathing was the most important.

It came with loud coughs, and she lacked the strength to rise to her feet.

What...?

Murder...?

Evangeline killed her sister because...

It felt very foolish to believe she was capable of doing such but at the same time, that happened before she took over this form. The life she lived before she took over was still kept in the dark, and she really had no idea of whom she had agreed to live her life for.

She’d always thought she was the hero in this fantasy story of hers. But who would have thought the savior of this world was heartless enough to murder her innocent sister in such a cold way just to secure her position as the most beloved child of the entire family. It was insane and hard to believe who could be that psychotic enough to do such a thing to their sibling.

She wanted to believe there was more to this story, or it could be because of what this monster suggested to her that made her have an illusion of doing such.

Evangeline shook her head as a trail of blood from his cut on her neck trickled down to her chest. It wouldn’t be fair to die and transmigrate into the body of a much bigger monster and be forced to live out her destiny as well as carry the weight of her sins.

The tears that clouded her vision did not stop her from noticing Alpha Jack pulling out a small transparent bottle, raising it enough for her to see as he discarded both knives beside her.

One of his pack members brought out an arrow and gave it to him.

’’Remember this?’’ he said with a smug, shaking the small bottle that contained something that was similar to water, but she was smart enough to know it wasn’t. Alpha Jack chuckled before bending down on his knees to level with her. His face amused as he locked eyes with her while shaking his head at her like she had no idea of how evil she was.

’’It was too easy to control you princess when you had many dirty linens you tried to bury in your closet that I fortunately saw. I use them as chains around your neck to make use of you until you are nothing.’’

The poor girl gulped with a terrified gaze at the Alpha. She didn’t realize the slight tremble in her hands at the next terrible thing he was going to claim she did, and she had no idea of.

’’You remember when you got so angry at your uncle, the father of your two friends because he tried to advise your father that it was wrong to favor the youngest over his other pups. You stole one of this acid and attempted to poison him multiple times with this. You did all this without being the least remorseful, and you had no shame when you continued being friends with his daughters. You drove everyone insane with your acts of being too righteous and innocent to not be admired by everyone. Your brothers saw through it all, and they are the only ones not blinded by your lies. Of how terrible, scary, ruthless and bitch you can be once things are not going the way you want.’’

This was all a lie.

It’s not true.

This is just him and his ploy to justify his misbehavior towards her. He was all full of lies, and this sinful life could not be hers to live.

’’Do not forget when you tried considering murdering your whole family because you did not trust them enough to continue supporting you and your ambition to be the Alpha King. You feared your father would one day change his mind and marry you off to any mateless Alpha out there. The expectations everyone has on you to get rid of the demon prince and the insane urge to be stronger than you could bear had you losing your mind and yourself. You were the most toxic she-wolf I have ever laid my eyes on and a manipulating little whore...’’

She gasped when he grabbed her jaw painfully and drew her close to himself.

’’How I so badly want to be the one to lead you to your end. The feeling is greater than your obsession for love, attention, power, and the zeal to bring the demon prince to his knees and name yourself a god beside the moon goddess herself.’’
