Chapter 84: Moon Dance 2

He gave her the sword and Eva stared down at it confused.

Prince Xalith gave her a smile when he noticed her bewilderment and said, "You do the final dance."

"What?!"

The moon guard waited patiently beside them as the crowd grew silent waiting to see who has been given the sword to complete the final dance. Eva’s eyes was as wide as saucers. She couldn’t believe they would choose her to go out there to perform the last part of the dance drama she isn’t aware of.

Prince Xalith only maintained the smile on his face as he urged her to go.

"Don’t worry, you will be fine. They would lead you and show you how you will sneak up on him. When you do, you grab him by the neck from behind, slit his throat with the fake sword, and he would fall dead at your feet."

It sounded easy to do, but it was going to be a terrible thing to do before a crowd of admirers.

"I don’t think I... I am not..."

The last time she was called out to do something similar like this, it didn’t end well for her. Only God knows what is going to happen. She turned to the Demon Prince waiting high and proud on the Calvary filled with half of his demons slaughtered. And as if he could single her out of the crowd he turned his head directly to where she stood, and she could feel its stares underneath that veil.

It made her so uncomfortable coming from an actor.

She turned to Prince Xalith who was already holding her hands and trying to convince her to do it.

"Don’t be scared, your highness. He is not the real deal." He brought her hands together to place the sword on it. "You can take this as practice or a source of encouragement."

She had a feeling he brought her out to this place to do this. She nervously wrapped her arms around the wooden sword and let herself be led by the moon guard and shown where she would land a surprise attack on the Demon Prince.

She allowed them to tie some sort of flying ropes around her waist as the crowd waited in great anticipation of the finale.

She was being buckled up in flying ropes for this drama but several anxious thoughts filled her mind.

What if I fail?

But that is being ridiculous. It is a staged performance. Each actor here cosplaying as a malevolent entity or a righteous one are all following a particular script. They are not meant to act against it. She was just an extra that will come and finish the performance and lead this crowd into believing she was capable of beheading the Demon Prince in the nearest future.

The Demon Prince wouldn’t try anything funny or intentionally make a mockery of her.

Eva felt a bit motivated as the last straps of the rope were secured around her waist. This was probably one of their most advanced technological innovative so far.

"Are you ready?"

The moon guard asked behind the mask. She turned to look at him, easily in the rope’s hold on her.

"What am I to do again?"

"We would lift you up to where he is..." the moon guard pointed to where the demon prince stood, causing terror in the hearts of many. It was a bit far from here that she wondered if the flying rope thing was going to be flexible enough to safely take her there. "The ropes would automatically leave your body when you reach there. Then you walk up to grab him by the neck from behind and slit his throat out like this."

Eva watched him demonstrate with a nod.

"Couldn’t you have picked anyone else who is willing and more capable?"

She asked as the moon guard stationed itself beside a wooden lever, ready to launch her into the sky for a surprise attach. Suddenly, she wondered how she was supposed to be to make this work. She has never used this sort of thing before.

"We could have, but Darkness chose you."

What?

She turned to face the creepy moon guard in-charge of the lever and fluent in speaking rubbish.

"He singled you out of the crowd and wants you up there with him. Make sure you keep your arms spread the entire time until you are on the ship."

What—?

They didn’t give her enough time to respond before the lever was pulled and Eva began to soar high above the ground.

She immediately did as she was told, and her heart sank as she soared over multiple cheering heads and faces. It wasn’t as bad or scary as she imagined. She kind of enjoyed moving in the air at some point and grew disappointed the moment her two feet softly touched wooden floorboards and the belts of the flying rope left her waist in a quick blink of an eye.

The sword still firm around her fingers as she moved behind the enigma, still distracted by the crowd.

She couldn’t tell if he knew she was on board and preparing himself to act like he was indeed caught unawares and his throat was slit into two before the crowd.

Evangeline approached him from behind anyway.

Each step she took and the closer she got gave her a powerful feeling of him being aware of her presence but pretending not to.

When Evangeline was close enough to launch her surprise attack on him, a small insect that flew before her face stilled. His dark, black wings, freezing in time as she stepped back in fear. She looked around her from the platform to witness the eerie feeling of the world around you frozen in time except you.

Wait.

She wasn’t the only one.

Evangeline’s heart began to plummet in her chest as he flexed the muscles of his back, having them move like little sensual ripples.

The sword fell from her grasp with a dull thud on the floorboards as he turned around to haunt her with his deep blue-red eyes that sparkled malevolently at her form.

Eva’s lips parted at him.

Who is this?

They were not affected by the sudden pause of time.

He did not look normal?

It took a single look from him to have her entire system shut down.

Why did she feel so scared and insecure?

She mimicked his slow approach by moving back as he got closer. Her heart pounding in her chest as this demon inched closer, pressing her down completely with the dark aura that came out of him. She wondered if this was also part of the show. Probably some sort of spell was cast on time to freeze it a bit and...

And...

Evangeline jumped the moment her back connected with a solid wooden wall. She wondered what was happening, but there was no one else around her to tell her if this was still part of the script.

He cornered her to the wall, both of his hands on the sides of her face as he leaned close.

Too close for her comfort.

Evangeline, if anything, made sure she maintained eye contact with him. They were unfriendly, cold, blue orbs that bled with red, giving it more than an ethereal look. Her arms feel limp by her side fearing what he was going to do next.

His eyes hardened on her the more she stared. She wondered what she might have done to this actor for him to look like he wanted to make a massive mess of her.

"I am extremely jealous when it comes to you."

Evangeline has never been more confused before in her life. She stared at him in total bewilderment.

"Giving you a second chance did not imply you let just anyone..."

Eva’s eyes moved the same as his as he swallowed the rest of his words. She could feel the level of anger and jealousy radiating from him. Which was so confusing because she doesn’t think she has ever met this entity before in her life.

"Know your place. You are mine, alone."

No words could form from her lips.

"Don’t make me come here again to remind you of that. I own your soul, your body, your past, present, and future. Your life and the meaning of your existence is written on the palm of my hands. I own your life. And I am not sharing it with anybody else, Charlotte."

More silence between them as they held each other’s gaze. When the enigma moved from her and created a distance between them, he began to evaporate in nothing but dark, beaming energy of black smoke and ash. His eyes fixed on her possessively.

The kind that gives you chills and enough to haunt your dreams for life.

"I will end you and whoever it is you are welcoming into your life. I would not be gentle about it when I come for you as a jealous demon."

It felt like this world moved at an odd diagonal angle the moment he vanished and the insect frozen continued to flap its wings at her line of sight.

Evangeline looked around her wondering what the hell just hit her?
