Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 85: Nothing
Eva stood on the platform as everyone stared back at her in silence. Probably everyone wondering the same thing as her.
What just happened?
Prince Xalith was the first to climb the platform to get her and when he did, he assaulted her with so many questions of what happened to her and if she was okay.
She stared dumbly at him as if in a trance. Her head felt light all of a sudden as she swayed on her feet. The world doing a nauseating spin as she passed out in his hold.
The last thing she remembered was his voice and his warnings.
How come she was so easily affected by the warnings from a stranger?
Days passed after that incident. An incident only she witnessed and was aware of. Prince Xalith has been clinging onto her a lot trying to know exactly what made her faint on the platform during the final moments of the moon dance.
She kept the experience to herself because she felt it was unnecessary and would require a lot of energy and patience to explain to him what she also finds disturbing.
She ate breakfast with her family—although how they pretend not to notice how their number on the dinning has reduced by three was concerning. She just assumed most of them would rather not be reminded of the loss. Especially when the Queen Luna hasn’t fully recovered from it. Even though she assures everyone that she is fully over it.
There were laughter and smiles on the table as they munched on things that were so salty for her taste. She clung to the side of her mother because apparently that was what made the woman happy, and it was the least she could do.
Her soon-to-be training mates also ate with them at times. Except the Vampire Princess who stays back in her room to indulge on the bottles of blood she brought with her.
Everyone has encouraged her not to be so shy of who she was and enjoy her bottles of blood with them on the table. They wouldn’t find it repulsive or disgusting as she thinks.
Though Evangeline doubts she would be fine seeing blood trail down her lips once in a while.
"So, has Eva remembered what or how she disappeared?"
Her caring aunty brought up which then shifted the attention in the room back on her again. No one cared about how some road paths were starting to be covered with solid ice that seemed hard to leave even the smallest of ice due to their extreme weather here.
Prince Xalith abandoned his food to also share in the gist. He seemed awfully too concerned about her these days.
Eva shared a glance with her mom before deciding to answer her aunt. "No, I am still...working my best."
"Oh, sweetheart. Poor you. I wonder why that memory was taken from you. Could it be because whatever happened to you was too traumatic?"
No one could answer or say anything. Eva just took a small sip from her cup.
"Ah, why don’t we send her off to Grand mother supreme for healing. Don’t you all think?"
Ah.
Eva put down her cup with a heavy sigh.
Grandmother supreme.
The woman who refused to let her take the smallest step into her home and told her in an icy tone to go home and never visits her again.
"My mother is busy with rebuilding her magical fence and cleaning up her moon temple."
Her father said, causing Evangeline to stiffen a bit. Whatever happened to Grand mother supreme coincendatally the same period she disappeared must be because of her, or she was one of the reasons.
The woman went from concealed hatred to obvious loathing.
How would she make her understand that she wasn’t deeply enjoying this either? This was not her home, her place, these people are not her family and this was not her skin or body.
Not many self-convincing or brainwashing could make her feel at home. She would always be reminded one way or the other that she does not belong here.
Her place is not with this world. She wished there was a way to return to how things were. She wouldn’t miss that opportunity for the world.
Maybe if she told her that her real beloved granddaughter was alive but trapped in some sort of ice prison. Probably she would believe her and not loathe her that much or push her away. They might work together and find a way to return things to how they were before this mess and everyone would be happy again.
"She has refused to tell us what happened, and she is pushing everyone away from her."
Eva turned to her mother again in concern. The guilt she was feeling could not be comprehended.
If only she hadn’t died and someone wanted her to live again.
She would be sure to give the person a befitting thank you should they meet.
The mystery of what occurred with her at the moon dance festival still haunts her until now. She has decided to ignore it for now and focus on what’s important currently.
That was surviving this special training lessons her dad has organized for her and the rest which had royal blood in them.
It’s been long she has experienced the power of that kind spirit of strength that randomly possesses her whenever she needs it to fight or train.
Eva fears the day she would be exposed and the feeling of that day being sooner than she thinks scares her a lot.
What will they do if they should find out?
She felt so uneasy as she stared at each of their faces; smiling and interacting as they eat.
What will she do?
What was going to be the first thing that would come out from her lips as an explanation?
She turned to her mother again and returned the smile the woman gave her. She placed her hands on her under the table.
How would they both face each other when that happens?
Will they all be ready to accept her then move on?
Believe in the lie that she was still their precious and beloved princess?
"Probably we should all go and visit her as a group not individually?"
All eyes fell on her aunt again who was currently refilling Sisi’s bowl with more boiled vegetables and chicken broth.
"She might then open up to us more. What do you think, King Alpha?"
Her dad pondered on that idea. Evangeline considered making up one excuse when that time comes to avoid any other unnecessary drama with her Grandmother. The woman already hates her as she is. Being among a party of sympathizers would just be a mockery. And she wouldn’t be surprised if she was chased away among the group.
"I know my mother very well. If she was interested in opening up to anyone, she would have done so when we all visited her individually. Let’s not try to force out what happened to her out. When she is ready to say something about it, she will."
Eva didn’t know why she dread that ever happening. The day the woman opens her mouth to speak. She could decide to put her in trouble.
Eva had to excuse herself, saying she was tired and wanted to sleep a bit. They allowed her while bidding her good night.
On her way to her room, while being escorted by the Elf Prince— Evangeline had to pause and ask the Elf prince directly.
"What do you want from me?"
He looked a bit taken a back by her tone and approach.
"Excuse me, Your Highness?"
Eva didn’t fight the urge to roll her eyes. She literally punched him in the face so hard that it sent him flying and crashing with a broken nose and busted lip on his first day of school. Which can’t be a reason for someone to be interested in someone.
There must be more to his clinginess.
She raised an eyebrow expecting him to start explaining himself, but he did a good job faking ignorance and looking more confused than her.
"I seriously do not understand what you mean, Your Highness."
Eva sighed out in frustration. There were really so many issues in her life that needed to be addresses.
"Okay. Just...stay here, okay? Stop following me around. It’s making me feel..."
"Feel what? Your Highness?"
He asked, taking a step forward, making her to lean back. Being cautious to put as much distance there is to be between them.
"Nothing. I feel nothing. So, please. Allow me some breathing space, okay?"
Prince Xalith didn’t say anything but stared deeply, which Evangeline found slightly uncomfortable. She turned around to leave for her room and was thankful he wasn’t following her anymore.
She must someday find out why. Why he chose to bother her out of the other thousand, pretty girls back in school.
She refused to believe it’s because of nothing.
