Chapter 204: A Bomb

"

Yes. Are we almost there?" Violet excitedly asked, only to gasp as she watched the car enter through huge, tall gates. The medical centers she was used to couldn’t compare to the massive building she saw through the car window.

She had come across videos and pictures flashing across public announcement boards in specific areas, but she had never seen the real thing before. The car finally stopped, and she and Cain got out, but she couldn’t stop looking around as they headed inside. The way the tiles shone and the white jackets the doctors wore excited her. Cain familiarly led them through an elevator and straight to exactly where they needed to go.

"I’ll show you around if this doesn’t take too long," Cain whispered in her ear, ignoring the people who bowed toward him as they passed. He chuckled at the way Violet tried to distance herself from him and pretend they weren’t lovers.

He allowed it... for now, as he headed right into an office without knocking, pulling Violet in with him. The doctor inside immediately stood up and bowed his head the moment they entered.

Cain didn’t immediately speak as he settled into his chair. Violet moved straight to sit in the one right next to Cain before she could be dragged to sit on his lap like before. She looked up, surprised to see that it was a doctor whose face she recognized.

"I’m Doctor Trivet. I wouldn’t have asked Lord Cain to come if not for the tests that needed to be done with machines too big to be brought to the mansion," he said, bowing again as he apologized for the inconvenience.

Cain simply nodded in response. "I want this to be over as soon as possible. Like I mentioned, it’s about my rut. I think it’s coming back, which is strange because I’ve never had it before."

Dr. Trivet was instantly surprised, nodding his head with a smile on his face. "That’s great! It means your beast wolf is getting stronger," he said with visible delight, though Violet didn’t seem to share his enthusiasm as she finally spoke up.

"There’s a way to prevent it, right? I read about it online," she said, surprised to see Dr. Trivet turn his gaze toward her, almost as if it were the first time he was truly seeing her. But instead of acting awkwardly, he simply bowed again.

The woman had a face he had never seen before, but considering how Uva could change her face and the fact that the woman Lord Cain had cared for was a witch, it was easy to put the details together and come to a viable conclusion.

She’s the one!

"Yes, there is a way to prevent it, but in Lord Cain’s case, we can’t do that. For his beast to get better and stronger, it would be better to allow him to experience the fullness of it. First, I’ll do some tests, and we’ll move forward from there," he said, continuing to speak when he saw a trace of anxiety fix itself on Violet’s face.

"I can give you contraceptives that work really well, so you won’t have to worry. There are both condoms and oral ones," he said. Violet tried not to show her visible relief as the doctor led Cain away to another room.

I can’t believe I’m here talking about contraceptives with him! she thought to herself, aware that it was much better than being stuck in a cell. Moreover, the way Cain treated her was much better than before.

They soon came out a few moments later, and both of them settled back in their seats. "I’ll analyze the blood samples I have, and the results should be out in a couple of days," Dr. Trivet promised. Cain nodded and got to his feet to leave, with Violet following suit.

A hint of a smile appeared on her face as she felt Cain immediately grab her hand to pull her closer as they stepped out of the office, with Dr. Trivet bowing toward them as they left.

But they had just taken the elevator back down when Violet leaned closer against his arm, whispering in his ear.

"We’re not heading home now, are we?" she asked, still excited to see a few places and try some restaurants and supermarkets she had spotted.

"We’ll look around a little," Cain agreed, intertwining his fingers with hers as they walked outside the entrance of the building, with the bodyguards standing on every side of the car.

"The driver will drop us at the—" Cain began, only for Violet to interrupt him before he could finish.

"Can-can we walk?" she asked, considering the fact that the building they entered was the closest to the gate, and there was a walkway that headed straight toward it. The sky was also clear, and the sun wasn’t out yet, making it convenient to walk. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Okay," Cain said without hesitation, calling Frank over and issuing instructions. "Send the cars back! I’ll call you once I’m done," Cain ordered. But Frank simply moved closer and bowed his head lower.

"You need at least one guard to stay with you," he said, calling over the youngest and most inconspicuous guard among them before bowing toward Cain. "I’ll return the second you call me back," he said with a bow before turning around to leave.

Violet couldn’t help the smile fixed on her face, excited for them to leave but also a bit worried that Cain would be easily recognized. She quickly realized that he wouldn’t be, and if he was, people would simply think he was a look-alike. After all, why else would their Lord be walking on the streets with a young woman?

They began to walk down the stairs and toward the pedestrian walkway, with Frank getting into the car they came in and the other bodyguards getting into the second car to drive off. But Frank had just started the car, and the other car filled with the bodyguards did the same, reversing and driving toward the gate, when suddenly—and most unexpectedly—both cars blew up with a nasty, booming sound. Flames roared into the air, coupled with the faint smell of blood.
