Victor had become accustomed to rejecting numerous girls in the past, and by now, it should have been a breeze for him. He had even rehearsed what he would say to Xiaxia to ensure he didn’t hurt her feelings too much.
However, in this moment, all of his prepared words seemed to evaporate, leaving his mind blank and his thoughts scattered.
Victor struggled to calm his nerves, forcing a smile. "Order anything you want. My treat."
"Thanks," Xiaxia replied, her voice slightly shaky as she buried her face in the menu, attempting to compose herself.
She could feel herself trembling slightly, overwhelmed by the situation. It looked like Victor was uncomfortable, and this only solidified her belief that he would definitely confess to her.
"Uhm . . ." Victor cleared his throat, adjusting the collar of his turtleneck. Why did it suddenly become too hot and suffocating?
"The real reason why I called you here is that . . . I have something to tell you," Victor started, feeling increasingly uncomfortable.
He tried to recall the lines he had practiced, but now his mind was blank. It was like his brain was in shock, leaving him with nothing but emptiness.
"Actually . . ." Victor searched for the right words while fidgeting in his seat. He adjusted his collar again, feeling like it was choking him.
Why had he opted for a turtleneck again?
It was almost winter, and the air was cold, but that was not important right now.
Victor took a deep breath and sighed through his mouth.
"Xiaxia . . . I want to tell you that . . ." Victor was slowly getting the words back when Xiaxia suddenly put down the menu and exclaimed.
"YES!"
". . ." Victor was surprised at her sudden outburst, and he stared at Xiaxia with wide eyes.
She stood up now, her face flushed and red all over.
"Yes, Victor, I will go out with you!" she declared boldly.
Victor’s mind went blank once more. ". . . Huh?"
"You’re going to ask me out, right?" Xiaxia said, this time more calmly, but she was still rushing her words, "Then my answer is yes."
"I . . . actually I . . ."
Xiaxia grabbed his hand and took a deep breath. "From now on, please take care of me. Don’t worry, though we’ve just known each other for a few months, in the face of true love, time isn’t important."
". . . What?"
Xiaxia bowed and released an exasperated sigh. "I know that I may not be the best girlfriend there is, but I promise that I will be the best girl for you!"

At this point, Victor didn’t know what to do or say. He was stupefied!
The fact that he still couldn’t find his voice and his brain shut down was proof that he wasn’t in the best state of mind right now.

Xiaxia mistook it as a sign that Victor was overwhelmed with happiness, and she smiled. "Please take care of me."
Victor had watched Xiaxia smile numerous times before, but this time, it seemed so different. It was more charming than usual, and she looked ten times more beautiful than before.
He looked away when he felt his face heating up. His heart was beating erratically as well.

As the confusion and shock settled over the table like a heavy fog, Xiaxia’s expression of excitement slowly faded into a look of concern.
She couldn’t understand why Victor was reacting this way. Wasn’t this what he wanted?
Victor must be in shock that I said yes. Happiness could truly stun you, after all.
Meanwhile, Victor’s mind raced with a whirlwind of thoughts. He needed to find a way to clarify this misunderstanding without hurting Xiaxia’s feelings.

"I’m just going to buy a couple of things and some ice cream," Xin remarked as they pulled up to the store.
Seraphina only smiled in response. "Good, there are plenty of options for ice cream here. You’ll love this place."
With a resigned shrug, Xin followed Seraphina’s lead, stepping out of the car and trailing behind her as they made their way into the lavish supermarket.
As they entered, Xin couldn’t help but feel a bit out of place amidst the opulent surroundings. The aisles were lined with extravagant displays of gourmet foods and delicacies from around the world, far removed from the simple fare he was accustomed to.
