Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 103: The Old Father
Shane paused and turned back to look at her. Although he didn’t verbally express his opinion, his returning steps tacitly agreed with Audrey Sutton’s suggestion. He said, "If you really want to exercise, get up early in the morning and come running with me."
"Let’s talk about it tomorrow. I’m going to buy a cup of milk tea next door."
Shane: "..."
Should he think of a way to change all the milk tea shops around the company? That way, she wouldn’t be tempted to buy one every time she saw them.
"Do you want one?" She ran a couple of steps ahead and then turned back to ask him.
Shane’s stern face gave her the answer. As if he was about to stop her from buying it any second, she quickly ran off into the shop.
Her T-shirt dress barely covered her thighs, paired with white baseball socks and white sneakers, and she wore her hair in a high ponytail—it was a vibrant and youthful look. But Shane, upon seeing her, felt a sense of worry.
Because seeing her so young and lively made him start to doubt if being with her made him seem too old?
On the way back, the two walked side by side on the right side pedestrian walkway of the bridge.
Standing on the bridge, they admired the bustling night scenery on both sides; the neon lights cast colorful reflections on the river.
The summer night breeze was cool, and even at this hour, the city was still bustling and lively.
Many young couples walked past, hand in hand.
Audrey Sutton turned her head to look at Shane, and their hands were only a few centimeters apart, yet,
they were not holding each other.
But being able to walk alongside him in the beautiful night, for her, was already a dream come true that she had fantasized about countless times in her heart.
Every time she walked this road alone, it felt so long, but this time, without realizing it, they had already reached their destination.
When they pushed open the door to their home, General wagged his tail enthusiastically to greet them at the door, while Pea lay lazily on the sofa, just giving them a glance and elegantly wagging its big tail, looking like "I’m the most noble one here."
Pea was a Ragdoll cat over two months old. Among cats, it was considered a larger breed, but in the presence of General, it was just a little kitty.
Audrey Sutton initially worried that General might bully Pea, but it turned out Pea, after coming to their home, ended up being the bully instead.
This was Pea’s most playful time; it was interested in everything, and had a bad temper yet was very bossy, often swiping its paw at General.
However, General was a gentle giant, always yielding to Pea.
"After your shower, hurry up and go to sleep. Don’t play with your phone under the covers tonight," Shane said to Audrey as they changed their shoes.
Audrey bent down to put her replaced shoes into the shoe cabinet, then stood up and looked at Shane, saying with a smile, "Don’t you think General is a lot like you?"
Shane raised an eyebrow, sensing that maybe she was subtly insulting him?
Audrey said, "Both of you are like an old father, always worrying unnecessarily."
Upon hearing this, Shane’s face turned even darker; he couldn’t stand hearing the word "old" now.
Before they knew it, Thursday had arrived.
After class, Audrey Sutton called Shane, and a few minutes later, his car was parked below her dorm.
It was just past four in the afternoon and the car was parked in front of a styling boutique on the street corner.
Audrey came out from the fitting room following a shop assistant and realized she and Shane were wearing matching outfits.
He rarely wore a white suit, and the tie and pocket square were misty blue, matching the color of Audrey’s long dress.
Usually, he wore dark colors like grey and black, but today his white suit looked refreshing.
Or rather, he was handsome with a flawless body, making any outfit he wore an enhancement of his appearance.
The party was held at the bar owned by Shane’s friend, closed for the day just to celebrate Shane’s birthday.
By the time they arrived, there were already quite a few people inside.
There were fewer people than Audrey Sutton expected because it seemed Shane only invited some friends and classmates, not his business associates.
Most of them were men, and if there were women, they were the spouses of his male friends, and several brought their children, with the oldest already in elementary school.
As the protagonist of the evening, Shane’s arrival naturally drew much attention.
A man with his wife and son walked up to them and teased Shane, saying, "Shane, you really pulled it off, secretly getting married."
Another man came over, scanned Audrey Sutton, and jokingly said, "Hiding such a beautiful wife, you should have introduced her to us long ago."
"Where did you find such a lovely young girl?"
"We all thought back then you’d end up with Clarissa, didn’t expect both of you to marry different people now."
Upon hearing this, the smile on Audrey Sutton’s face stiffened.
Shane immediately glanced down at Audrey Sutton’s expression.
With so many people watching, Audrey Sutton kept her smile, appearing very composed.
It wasn’t her first time hearing someone say that, but each time felt uncomfortable.
It was as if people thought Shane and Clarissa were star-crossed lovers, and she was the one who stepped in and broke up this destined pair.
Speak of the devil and the devil appears, Quentin Sterling and Clarissa Morgan walked in hand in hand from the bar entrance.
Quentin wore a dark navy suit, while Clarissa wore a fishtail dress of the same color. Perhaps due to long-term dance practice, she looked particularly graceful, tall, and charming.
A male voice beside them sighed, "Clarissa is still so beautiful. They were such a well-matched couple back then, such a pity."
Audrey Sutton secretly glanced at Shane, feeling a bit blocked in her chest.
What’s there to pity? Should it necessarily be Clarissa and Shane together for things to be satisfactory?
While silently feeling upset, she heard a cool, detached voice above, with a hint of jest and teasing, "Don’t say these things in front of my wife, or you’ll stop discussing it among yourselves, but I’ll never hear the end of it at home."
The man seemed to realize only then, hurriedly laughing and explained to Audrey Sutton, "Little sister, don’t be angry, I was just speaking casually, it’s all in the past. Shane is lucky to have such a young and beautiful wife."
Audrey Sutton merely gave a dry smile, tugging at the corners of her mouth as she watched Quentin Sterling and Clarissa Morgan walk over.
Quentin was the first to speak, smiling and saying, "Traffic was jammed, so we came late."
Shane replied with a light smile, "Not late, we just arrived."
Then, Clarissa stepped forward, half a step, extended a black gift box, smiled up at Shane, and said, "Shane, happy birthday."
