Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 119: I’ll Be Worried
Ivan Yardley smiled, sat down by the hospital bed, and while peeling an apple with a fruit knife, he said, "Anyway, everyone in your company knows I’m pursuing you. It would be strange if I didn’t come when you’re in the hospital."
He always expressed his feelings for Lan Irving straightforwardly, and every time Lan Irving heard such words, she would almost always remain silent, avoiding or changing the subject.
"I thought your plan was to truly stir up conflict between the two brothers, but it turns out you used me as part of a ploy of suffering," Ivan Yardley said with a smile, though his words carried a faint sarcasm without any blame toward Lan Irving.
Lan Irving lowered her eyes and softly said, "I’m sorry."
Ivan Yardley smiled at her and said, "There’s nothing for you to be sorry for with me; I just think you’re a bit foolish. Is this worth it?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
She felt it was worth it.
Since the last time she privately leaked the design drafts, Shane Warner had almost stopped talking to her.
This time, by taking a hit for him, she managed to regain some trust from him.
"How about it? Did it work? Has his attitude towards you improved?"
Hearing the sarcasm in Ivan Yardley’s words, Lan Irving replied a little unhappily, "If you’re here to laugh at me, then you can leave."
"Anyone might laugh at you, but I won’t. I just wanted to congratulate you on your successful plan."
He cut a slice of apple and offered it to Lan Irving’s lips, saying, "Next time, if you want to do something, you can tell me directly. There’s no need to come up with a separate story for me. That person is a fool and doesn’t hold back. Your actions could cost you your life."
Lan Irving naturally knew this, but she felt that if she completely lost her presence with Shane Warner, then living would have little meaning for her.
So she dared to gamble, thinking that even if she lost, she would die in Shane Warner’s embrace.
Lan Irving accepted the apple from his hand and took a bite.
Ivan Yardley said, "I hope you remember one thing, no matter what your plan is, I hope you’ll tell me honestly. I will try my best to find a way to help you, just don’t do such dangerous things again."
He put down the apple and fruit knife in his hand, wiped his hands with a tissue, then stood up and slightly leaned in closer to her, tucking the strands of hair by her face behind her ear, his voice hoarse and ambiguous, "I would be worried."
Lan Irving shrank back her neck, trying to avoid, not used to such close contact with him.
Ivan Yardley quickly straightened up, put his hands in his pants pockets, looked at her, then turned and left the ward.
...
It was late at night.
Audrey Sutton was lying in bed, looking at the bright moon hanging outside the window.
Her hand stroked Pea, who was curled up beside her, and in the darkness, she could vaguely see the light from the neighboring room spilling onto the balcony.
He probably hadn’t slept either.
Audrey Sutton had many things on her mind, including what Shane had said during those few minutes alone with Lan Irving in the hospital room, and the strange transfer student at school, along with the unexpected incident at the funeral.
These things seemingly had no connection, yet they all bothered her enough to keep her awake.
Footsteps came from outside, and seeing a shadow appear on her balcony, she quickly closed her eyes and stopped stroking Pea.
She heard the balcony glass door gently push open, footsteps approaching the bed step by step.
Audrey Sutton lay stiff, afraid to move, curious about what he was doing there, with not a sound to be heard in the quiet around her.
Her mind even wandered to comic book plots, wondering if he would secretly kiss her while she was asleep.
What was just a few seconds of stillness felt especially long to Audrey Sutton.
Feeling Pea, the cat, being lifted from under her arm, then her arm being tucked into the blanket.
"Meow—" Pea let out a small cry, and then the soft footsteps sounded again, gradually disappearing from her ear.
After half a minute of quiet, Audrey Sutton opened her eyes, sat up, and looked around, guessing Pea had probably been taken away by him.
He didn’t like Pea sleeping on her bed, because Pea was shedding a lot now.
She had originally set up a cozy cat bed in the living room for Pea, but Pea loved sleeping close to people on the bed.
But thinking about him having just covered her with the blanket, Audrey Sutton suddenly felt the vexation in her heart was replaced by a sweet warmth.
The next morning, Shane Warner came over from the balcony to wake her up for a run.
Usually, she would still be in bed around six, but today when he came over, there was just a pile of disheveled blankets.
The bathroom light was on.
Seeing that she was already awake, he thought she had gotten into the habit of waking up at this time, so he silently returned to his room, changed clothes, and went downstairs to wait for her.
He waited and waited, ten minutes passed, and Shane Warner went upstairs to find her still in the bathroom.
The bathroom was quiet and he found it odd, so Shane Warner knocked on the door, "Why are you still not out?"
Sitting on the toilet, Audrey Sutton looked up at the shadow outside the door, her voice weak and uncomfortable, "My stomach hurts."
"What’s wrong?"
"...That time of the month."
Shane Warner sighed upon hearing this, "You deserve it, wasn’t the iced latte tasty?"
Audrey Sutton pouted without answering, watching the shadow outside the door walk away.
A few minutes later, Shane Warner returned, this time with a cup of hot ginger tea and a hot water bottle in his hands.
Audrey Sutton came out of the bathroom feeling completely exhausted, ignoring Shane Warner, she frowned while holding her stomach, headed straight for the bed, lifted the blanket, and lay back down.
"Drink the ginger tea."
Audrey Sutton glanced at the steaming cup on the bedside table, muttering under her breath, "Drinking it will make me break out."
Shane Warner shot a glance that made her feel chills all around, so she quickly sat up and gulped down his "good intentions" before falling back into the bed again.
Shane Warner had consulted a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, originally intending to regulate her body with Chinese medicine, but knowing she struggled to take even common cold medicine, making her drink traditional medicine daily was unrealistic.
So he mostly kept a tight rein on her lifestyle habits, but he couldn’t always watch over her, and she didn’t always listen to him, unable to resist the temptation of iced drinks.
When the pain kicked in, she’d swear to never drink them again, only to forget how painful it was once it passed.
When the hot water bottle was ready, Shane Warner lifted the blanket and directly placed it on her lower abdomen.
Audrey Sutton was startled, and by the time she reacted, Shane Warner had already withdrawn his hand.
Her face was slightly flushed as she held onto the hot water bottle.
To take care of her, Shane Warner didn’t go out for a run that morning, he just took the dog for a walk downstairs, then came back, not even going to the office, occasionally checking in on her.
She probably hadn’t slept well at night due to the pain, so when the pain subsided, she curled up and fell asleep.
He wanted her to remember the lesson, but watching her in pain and breaking out in a cold sweat made him feel heartache.
