Chapter 126: LAST WARNING!

The scream made each and every member of Claire’s cohort flinch, each of them turning around slowly like doors in horror films.

Those screechy and old doors that turned slowly to build more tension for the viewers.

A small distance away stood a young man, standing tall at an obnoxious height of 7 feet, looking down at the group of raiders. His face and condition were hidden by a shade of darkness, but everyone could see how he limped while walking toward them.

Several flashlights flashed at him, brightening up the poor man and making him flinch. He raised his arms weakly to defend against the light, his entire body shaking as if he had just experienced the worst trauma of his life.

However, before he could raise his hands fully, everyone managed to see a sight that chilled their hearts.

Fresh blood poured out of his socketless eyes, flowing down his cheeks in torrents. And the weirder part was, he didn’t seem to realize his own condition, his lips tilted into a wide curve, grinning like a maniac.

Just a single sight of his face reminded Aaron of that famous comic he had read—the big stone lord’s grinning face.

"Help me... it hurts..." the man whispered with his hands covering his eyes as if the light was hurting him, which wasn’t supposed to be possible since he had no eyes.

Claire gulped her saliva, stepping backwards slowly while everyone followed her lead and began to back off toward Katie.

"Why... are you leaving me behind...?" the man asked, pain apparent in his voice.

But when no one answered, he seemed to get slightly angered, walking toward them with a strange limp in his legs. "Why are you running?"

Each and every cell of Aaron’s body urged him to ask and learn what in the actual fuck was going on!

But he also understood that the harmony of silence maintained between the six of them wasn’t something natural.

They intentionally weren’t speaking a thing even when the man seemed to grow more and more enraged, shooting questions faster than Eminem could rap.

And the funnier thing was that even while maintaining their silence, the group functioned as a well-oiled machine.

A single smirk and look from Claire was enough for everyone to understand what she meant.

Jaq, no matter how goofy and playful, had already proved herself to be one of the strongest and sharpest members of the cohort.

The rest were no pushovers either, slaying tombats right out of the sky while on the move.

Katie was given the task of retrieving each and every wing they would need, as they were now sitting at a whopping seven wings.

Just three more and they could get the hell out of here, escaping this walking nightmare that wouldn’t stop asking questions.

However, just as they thought that it couldn’t get worse than this, a flowing string of words suddenly spread within the stadium like a musical bomb.

"CLAIRE’S COHORT! ARE YOU IN THERE? WAS IT A MIMIC OR A PERSON?"

The words echoed throughout the deserted stadium.

Aaron and his teammates froze, panic washing over their faces as they saw the walking seven-foot nightmare stop moving.

Then there was an uncomfortable amount of teeth chattering, the smiling man turning to look at the stadium’s entrance and then back at Claire’s crew.

How could they forget that the Sanguini were still outside?

When none of them replied for a while, the rhythm fell back into place with a slight amount of unease between the group.

Time trickled slowly. One by one, the flying tombats were hunted by Jaq before the suckers could find a chance to attack them, and their task was nearly completed.

Five minutes passed, three more wings were gathered, and their group slowly moved toward the stadium’s one and only entrance, which was unfortunately blocked by the monster.

And then... another word bomb exploded within the stadium.

"CLAIRE! THIS IS THE LAST WARNING, REPLY QUICKLY IF YOU’RE STILL ALIVE! OR WE WILL NEED TO COME IN AND CHECK!"

Claire grit her teeth, still refusing to open her mouth and invite the prowling monster’s wrath upon her.

She continued to move toward the exit sneakily, but unfortunately for her, the monster was a tad bit smarter than the rest.

He abandoned their group after realizing that none of them would slip up and mistakenly reply to his questions, and instead made his way toward the exit in a straight line.

The raiders realized it as well, but there was nothing they could do except watch the monster hide beside the entrance perfectly.

He blended so well with the darkness that they believed if they hadn’t seen him hide there, they wouldn’t have been able to tell he was there at all.

That was probably the main reason why he had been able to sneak up on them so easily in the first place.

Right in front of the door, with a respectable ten-meter gap separating them from the monster, Claire’s cohort stood.

Claire stood beside Aaron, her arm tucked into his elbow and her head leaning on his shoulder as she sighed softly, refusing to speak but letting her actions speak for themselves.

Aaron shook his head with a wry smile, brushing her silky golden hair gently with one hand.

He understood her distress, the reason for her disappointed sighs as she watched the stadium’s entrance.

In such silence, they could already hear the chatter of the Sanguini. The voices proved they were coming closer and closer.

Some were laughing at some stupid joke while others seemed more annoyed than eager, flashlights in their hands and pointed ahead.

Vyra walked in front, her eyes narrowed as her honed instincts picked up a slight unease.

She lowered her walking speed and fell back toward her teammates as they finally emerged into the stadium.

Claire’s cohort brightened into existence right in front of their eyes, their flashlights also turned on and pointing at the Sanguini while they looked at them with pity.

"Will you help me...?" a low voice whispered into the Sanguini’s ears.
