Chapter 47: Birthday

Time began to move more quickly after the head maid’s visit. And before long, it was Ellis’s birthday... just a few hours before his ability, Ephemeral Soul Genesis, would become usable in its entirety.

He was in his best condition, and nothing seemed to be going wrong. So, Ellis was happy.

Everything should become better after today, after all.

That’s what he believed in!

So, as royalty, even if an abandoned one... should he not celebrate his birthday?

Silas had insisted that he do something. And had today been a normal birthday, he probably wouldn’t have cared much.

But because it was a special day, he agreed to have a small celebration, just him and her.

And with that in mind, he called the two maids.

"Today is my birthday, so I plan to spend it alone with Silas. You don’t mind that, right?" Ellis asked, looking at Grenda with a beaming smile.

A smile that made her face lose color, as she hurriedly nodded and said, "O-of course we don’t mind, Your Highness."

"And to not bother you... today, we’ll stay in the maids’ chamber and won’t go out at all."

Ellis didn’t say anything more after that, and simply dismissed them.

Afterward, he stayed in his own room, just relaxing, while Silas prepared the small party.

It was the first time, since coming to this world, that he truly did nothing and simply relaxed.

So, he couldn’t help but feel like something was wrong.

Even then, he didn’t train. Instead, he walked toward the window and looked outside.

He gazed at the blue sky and the pleasant weather... then looked down at the royal grounds, which were teeming with carriages, far too crowded, and couldn’t help but drift into his thoughts.

When the head maid had visited, he had assumed something had gone wrong.

And it had... just not on his side, but from the queen’s side.

So, his current situation was actually better than before.

And it wouldn’t be strange if the two maids were called back at any moment now.

After all, the crown prince was finally going to be officially announced by the king.

It would happen on Foundation Day, during a grand banquet where all the high-ranking nobles would be invited.

Foundation Day, two weeks away from his birthday.

Ellis wondered if, after those two weeks, everything would finally end, and no one would bother him anymore.

But in the end, he shook his head, turned away from the window, and stepped out of the room.

He decided to help Silas with preparing the small party.

...

Under the last rays of the sun, in a small garden tucked into a quiet corner of the abandoned. The area was lightly decorated, and ribbons swayed gently in the soft breeze. A modest wooden table stood at the center, covered with a clean white cloth and adorned with small flowers in glass jars. Upon it, plates of food were spread generously.

It was the kind of setting that didn’t scream grandeur and extravagance. But, still felt special on its own way.

Ellis, dressed in formal clothes, for the first time, stood by the table, his gaze fixed on the cake. It looked a little different from the one made in the modern day. Still, the meticulous care that was put into it, was apparent.

He could tell it had been made with great effort. With great love.

And he felt touched, Silas hadn’t even let him help much, after all.

She did almost everything on her own, and despite that she still had finished on time. So, he couldn’t help but be impressed.

Then, where was the said maid, Silas?

The one who had been preparing for this birthday for over a week now?

She was changing clothes.

She had originally wanted to stay in her maid uniform, but Ellis naturally had refused. He insisted otherwise, and in the end, she had relented. So now, she was in the middle of changing.

Luckily, Ellis didn’t have to wait long. Silas soon enough graced him with her presence.

She wore a strapless dress, one that lightly clung to her figure and accentuated her breasts, while her long black hair was left untied, cascading freely past her shoulders. She looked stunning, standing beneath the soft twilight. And Ellis’s gaze was fixed on her, entirely captured.

For a moment, he couldn’t say anything.

He simply looked at her. Then, finally regaining his voice, he said softly, "You look beautiful."

"Thank you, Master," Silas replied, a soft blush warming her cheeks. This was a different experience, after all... a one she had never imagined she would go through in her life.

But her eyes were also on Ellis. Even though she had helped him dress just earlier, seeing him now, standing under the darkening sky, with the last glow of sunlight catching the edges of his hair and clothing...

She was struck by how beautiful he was.

And so, she tried to put her thoughts into words, even though she knew no words would ever truly be enough.

"My master... you look more radiant than ever," she said gently, her voice full of warmth, before she poured her honest and sincere feeling, "To stand beside you like this... feels like a dream I never knew I could have."

Inadvertently, a small smile adorned Ellis’s face at her words. He felt warmth... he felt loved.

And even though, he wasn’t eloquent enough to say many words back, he still replied, "You will stand beside me for a long, long time more."

’...For eternity!’ Ellis didn’t say that last word aloud, but he said it to himself, as he was determined to find a way to keep Silas beside him... even when he had to reincarnate later.

And like that, with heartfelt words, their small celebration began.

With his age and small body... and with it being a party just for the two of them, Ellis, who had wanted to dance with Silas, was unfortunately unable to do so.

At least he was able to drink a little alcohol along with the cake, so he was satisfied.

He was already twenty-five on the inside. And even though his body was still small, it was already stronger than any adult from his past life... at least before the mana awakening.

So, he couldn’t help but be thankful that no one here was able to prevent him from enjoying himself.

Ellis just wanted to relax and enjoy the moment with Silas.

And Silas, she wanted to spoil him.

So, at some point, he ended up sitting on Silas’s lap, as she gently fed him the cake herself.

It was something he had stopped doing long ago, after he grew up and began eating normal food.

And now, Ellis was happy.

But, to make a difference this time, he took the fork and fed Silas as well.

She was slightly flustered.

After all, when had there ever been a maid who was fed by a prince, a royal himself?

Silas’s joy was high, her heart light and full.

Was it because of how intoxicating this moment was for Silas?

She even kissed him on the cheek, on her own... for the first time.

Ellis, naturally happy with her taking the initiative, returned the kiss... with one on her lips.

And like that, their small party continued.
