New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 597: Assuring Kairo
"Is there something wrong with Richard and Lala?" Zaque asked as he trail behind the purple eyed hybrid.
Kairo looked uneasy, his hands clenched and unclenching as if he was getting anxious.
"No.." Kairo murmured, his footsteps quiet and light against the floorboard as he led the first husband towards the basement. "But I guess it depends on the person? I don’t know."
Zaque couldn’t help, but arch an eyebrow at that. "What’s wrong, Kairo? Why are you acting strange?"
"It’s because of Richard and Lala.." Kairo swallowed and stopped in front of the basement door, his breath caught in his throat. "I-It’s hard to explain so it would be better if you go down there and see the situation yourself."
Zaque stopped before the hybrid and scanned him from head to toe.
Kairo is definitely acting strange, but for what reason? Did he see Richard hurt Lala? But wouldn’t that be impossible because Lala is one of the king beast’s creators? 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Coco had quickly briefed about how she met Richard and how Lala was one of his creators, and as far as Zaque is concerned, a creation can’t hurt their creator unless the creator had given them the ability to do so.
"You’re scaring me, Kairo." Zaque muttered, frowning at the hybrid.
"Forgive me." Kairo quickly apologized and lowered his head. "I just don’t want to be involved when this is clearly a matter between Coco and her husbands."
"Hey now." Zaque’s frown deepened as he lifted Kairo’s head by putting a finger under his chin. "You will become one of her husbands soon. Stop separating yourself from us because it won’t work. We’re already planning on how to convince her."
Kairo’s cheeks flushed and he fluttered his eyes closed. "Ahem, p-please refrain from saying something incredulous. We both know that she wouldn’t allow it.’
Zaque shook his head and sighed. "I know you want her, Alhai knows you want her, Heiren knows you want her, and Quizen knows you want her."
Seriously, he doesn’t know why Kairo is adamant on not making himself one of Coco’s husbands.
Coco is more than qualified to take in another mediator under her wings because she has no debt, no record of being thrown into prison, no relation with the Baroness, and she’s a responsible person who wouldn’t take advantage of Kairo.
So why would Kairo not want to become hers?
"I.. I know." Kairo murmured, his eyebrows creasing together. "It’s shameful enough that I was longing for someone who was already married and who clearly held deep affections towards her mediators.. But it became even more shameful now that said mediators are trying to convince their wife to take in another."
"What’s wrong with that though?" Zaque tilted his head, causing Kairo to flinch. "We already accepted you as one of us."
"But Coco doesn’t want me—" Kairo tried to argue further, but Zaque’s lips quirked up and he laughed.
"She doesn’t want you?" Zaque repeated with a shake of his head, as if he had just heard the most unbelievable statement in the whole world. "Oh, geez, that’s your reason? That’s what is stopping you from helping us convince her?"
"Y-Yes?" Kairo answered, his eyebrows furrowing further. "Also, I may have come off as crude before, but I do respect you and others. I don’t want to force my presence into your family further—"
Zaque paused and he stopped laughing. "Kairo. We may have shown that we didn’t like you when you first settled here, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t grow fond of you for the past few weeks. In fact, we’re now so fond of you that it’s getting a little hurtful that you keep refusing to be one of us when you clearly want to."
Kairo blinked, his heart racing. Is Zaque being transparent with him right now?
The hybrid knows that he had formed a friendship with Coco’s husbands, but he didn’t know that their friendship ran that deep for them to know what he truly wanted.
"Alhai was the first one to open up this talk about you becoming one of us." The red haired mediator stated, shifting his gaze away from Kairo.
Kairo’s lips parted, his eyes widening in surprise. "Really?"
"Yes." Zaque mumbled, casting a frown at the floor. "When he did, I didn’t expect Heiren and Quizen to be fine with it, but they were."
"B-But.. Aren’t I basically a homewrecker?" Kairo asked, his head dropping a little.
"A homewrecker?" Zaque echoed, blinking. "Is that what you think of yourself? Because honestly, you’re far from being one."
Is Kairo being serious? Zaque thought, squinting his eyes at the hybrid.
"Look, Kairo." The mediator sighed deeply and placed a hand on Kairo’s shoulder. "You already got our approval, but haven’t gotten Coco’s yet. If you want to become one of us, you have to help us convince her."
Kairo looked down on the floor, his worry evident in his face. "But Coco.."
"Will change her mind if you express how much you like her." Zaque finished Kairo’s sentence for him, flashing him a bright smile.
You have no idea how worried Coco looked when you collapsed. Zaque stared at Kairo, his mind recalling the event of the other night when he heard the commotion in the hallway.
He was busy cooking at the time so he didn’t see Kairo, but he went out of the kitchen just in time to see Coco’s terrified face.
She was cradling Kairo close to her chest, screaming at him what was wrong, panicking.
That was enough for Zaque to know that Coco had indeed developed a deep affection for the hybrid, but Coco being Coco, she’s still probably not aware of her feelings towards Kairo.
"Anyway, let’s talk about this later." Zaque spoke up and placed his hand on the door handle of the basement.
"Oh, right.." Kairo blinked when he realized why he led Zaque there. "Uh, don’t scream, okay?"
Zaque raised an eyebrow. "Why would I scream?"
