New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 622: Zaque’s annoyance
"I’ll be leaving now, madam." Zaque called over to the bakery owner, making the old woman perk up from her position under the counter.
She was picking up coins that fell off because a rude customer decided that it was fun to do it.
"Oh, dear." Madam Mala said, backing away from the counter and peeking her head at the corner to look at her best worker. "You seem quite awfully early to leave this time, Zaque."
The mediator stopped at the door, a hand raising to his nape to rub the skin as he laughed nervously. "Yes, well, my mother-in-law wanted to spend time with us, so I won’t be able to stay until closing time."
Madam Mala gasped and she scrambled to get off the floor. "Your mother-in-law? Why didn’t you say so? Come, come, come! We still have a couple of donuts at the back!"
"Ah, no need, madam!" Zaque called, the sheepish look on his getting replaced with horror. "I can just bake at my house!"
The remaining customers inside the bakery turned their heads to look at Zaque, his fellow mediators and a couple of men eyeing the way Zaque’s clothing hugged his body.
Zaque wasn’t aware of how popular he is to others because he had his eyes on Coco for a long time, but he was flirted with here and there.
Right now, the said customers were only staying because Zaque usually stays until closing time, and they took this chance to get a glimpse of him even though he spends most of his working time inside the kitchen.
"Dear, just come and take them!" Madam Mala was adamant, so Zaque could only let out a sigh.
The mediator walked over to the counter, only to stop in his tracks when the bakery’s door swung open and the bell rang loudly to announce a newcomer’s arrival.
"Welcome." Zaque turned around and greeted the individual, but he was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar and loving face.
"Coco!" He gasped, his heart fluttering at the sight of his beautiful wife, but when he rushed over to hug her, his heart dropped to his stomach at the sight of the frown on her face.
"What’s wrong?" Zaque asked, his hands snaking up to caress her cheeks. "What’s with the long face, wife?"
As if a nuclear bomb was dropped, Zaque’s admirers snapped their attention at the woman in his arms and they couldn’t help, but wonder who she could be to him for him to embrace her just like that.
"We’ll talk about it later." Coco mumbled, her cheeks slightly puffed out into a pout. "I came here to pick you up. You’re off the clock, right?"
Zaque stared down at Coco’s face, his eyes glued on the way her mouth formed into an adorable pout and unconsciously, he reached up to cover her face, a frown forming in his face.
"Yes.. I’m already off the clock." Zaque answered her before he let out a sigh and pressed his forehead against hers. "Please don’t show that kind of face in public. What will I do if mediators start hovering around you?"
"What are you talking about?" Coco grumbled, her eyebrows furrowing as she pushed Zaque’s hand off her face.
"Nothing, nothing." Zaque mumbled, pulling away from her, but he let his hand linger on her waist and even guided her to sit on a table that was near the counter. "Wait here. I have something I have to get at the back, then we can leave."
"Okay." Coco hummed and watched as Zaque pulled the chair. "You don’t have to show this kind of customer service to me, you know?"
The mediator raised an eyebrow, amusement swirling in his red eyes. "Customer service? You think I just pull a chair for any customer out there? Don’t think too low of me, wife."
He leaned down, his nose brushing against hers. "Don’t make me want to lock you in my room again, Coco."
The tone of his voice was calm, but the insinuation of his words sent a shiver down her spine. Goodness, how could someone like him be this hot and attractive?
I got so lucky. Coco thought, her cheeks feeling strangely warm.
Zaque’s lips twitched at the sight of his wife’s red face and couldn’t help, but give her waist a gentle squeeze. "Come on.. Be good and wait for me here. We’ll go home right after." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Coco flinched at the feeling of Zaque squeezing her side, her heart fluttering.
She let out a huff, but she scrambled to take a seat on the chair he pulled out and didn’t meet his eyes until he finished helping her get comfortable.
"I’ll be quick." Zaque repeated and placed a kiss on her cheek.
The mediator straightened himself and looked around, his eyes narrowing towards the customers who were already looking at his wife.
They sensed such an intense stare and couldn’t help, but look away from the woman that was incredibly comfortable around their eye candy and when they looked at the source, their hearts dropped at the sight of Zaque’s glare.
Who knew that the all-smile worker of the bakery could have such a cold look on his face?
Zaque sent them one last glance before he proceeded to enter the back of the bakery, his broad shoulders tense and his body rigid from the unwanted attention his wife is getting.
He appreciates the very fact that she made an effort to come to his workplace and pick him up, but at the same, he couldn’t stop the feeling of annoyance because the moment she walked through that door..
All eyes were immediately on her, and it was the most irritating thing that he ever felt.
"Here you go, dear." Madam Mala perked up when she heard footsteps and quickly handed the paper bag filled with donuts. "Make sure your wife gets a taste of that, okay?"
"Of course, madam." Zaque hummed, accepting the bag with a smile.
