Chapter 623: The first husband’s assurance

Coco walked by Zaque’s side, their hands interlocked with each other.

He was holding the paper bag the bakery owner gave him because he didn’t want his wife to carry anything when there’s something obviously bothering her.

Zaque felt relieved. He was having a hard time guessing what could possibly bother Coco before, but now that they are slightly closer than before.. He kind of could tell what may be bothering her pretty little mind.

Not to mention, Coco has been looking at other mediators with a confused face so it’s not really rocket science.

She doesn’t know how to deal with Kairo, right?

Zaque’s lips twitched slightly at the thought because he wouldn’t put it past Coco to not be bothered by then pushing Kairo onto her.

Heiren or Alhai certainly did something today. Zaque thought, his eyes skimming past Coco’s furrowed eyebrows and distracted eyes that kept darting around.

All of them already agreed that Kairo will be their fifth, having won their favors and had gotten to know him better— he wants Coco, but he’s afraid to make a move because his new friends love her, which is kind of like Coco right now.

"It’s an endearing sight, isn’t it?" Zaque spoke up, his eyes discreetly looking at the three mediators crowding who looked like their husband.

"Huh?" Coco flinched, tearing her gaze away from the said three mediators and their husband.

"Them, the four of them." Zaque clarified with a nudge of his head in the direction of the four people. "As bystanders, we kind of could tell who is the new spouse from who isn’t."

The red haired mediator was right, Coco could tell apart who isn’t new in the relationship from who is.

The taller mediator looked kind of awkward around the two, but at the same time, he looked rather happy being in the middle of the two and their husband.

Actually, Coco isn’t sure who the mediators are or not, but she could sense the newness of the other person.

It reminded her of Kairo in a way and that alone gives her some clarification that she indeed like the hybrid, not that she doubted her own feelings in the first place anyway.

"Now, just because there’s a new mediator doesn’t the other two minded it." Zaque pointed out the obvious, his eyes shifting back to look at Coco’s face. "Observe them closely, wife. The other two is assuring him like along with the husband."

Once the two of them got close enough, since they were making their way back to Jacques’ house and they were already passing by the four of them, Coco hears a single sentence from the husband— or the boyfriend, she doesn’t know, really, but he act like one so she assumed.

"You don’t have to be all tense." The man said, his voice soft and soothing as he smiled. "They’re going to treat you well now that you’re one of us."

One of us.. The man said it with such an intense emotion that even Coco could feel it.

Zaque smiled at the words the man had uttered because those words will help convince Coco later on, and based on the look on her face, it won’t take that long before he could make her believe that they’re truly fine with her taking another mediator.

The mediator decided that it’s enough and pulled Coco away from the small group, making sure that he’s walking down the right path towards Jacques’ house.

"If you’re still feeling doubt about Kairo." Zaque started and squeezed Coco’s hand to get her attention. "Watch how the others interact with him and watch closely how he interact with them in return. You’ll see that they have already accepted him as one of us."

Coco blinked and slowly looked down on the cobblestone beneath their feet, slightly embarrassed to be found out that she’s feeling that way.

"I heard that it’s the first mediator’s job to find a suitable mediator for their spouse." Coco mumbled, making Zaque hum in acknowledgement.

"That’s true." He agreed, the corner of his lips twitching. "I was already considering Kairo, but I was skeptical of him at first. I didn’t like how he was comfortable around you.. Which, well, changed."

"Changed? How so?" Coco looked up, eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

"When he first arrived in Yogusho Village, he didn’t hesitate to approach you despite knowing the fact that you were already married." Zaque pointed out, recalling the memories of the news he received from a couple of friendly villagers.

"But for some reason.. He stopped pursuing you and even distanced himself." The mediator added with a pleased expression in his face. "Then, we left the village and never came back."

Never came back. It was such a strange phrase because it was never their plan to not come back to the village.

Coco has thought of spending some time in the main city because the people she knew spoke highly about the place, but now that she’s here, she didn’t really feel like it was that good of a place at all.

She only brought the mediators with her because they wanted to come.. She wasn’t expecting them to like their new life and stay.

"After a couple of weeks, Rey and Kairo decided to ask for a favor." Zaque continued soeaking, bringing Coco our of her inner musings. "Who knew that they will ask permission from me instead of you? From that alone, I knew that they respect me."

"Does that do anything for you to like Kairo?" Coco asked, her voice barely louder than a whisper.

"Oh, yes." Zaque whickled answered and flashed his wife a smile. "He was trying so hard to distant himself from you that it was starting to become adorable, then I found out that he actually likes you."

Coco blinked, eyes widening. "He does?"

"Are you serious?" Zaque raised an eyebrow, looking at Coco incredulously. "He already asked you to marry him, but you don’t know that he likes you?"
