New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 652: The worries after the attack [2]
"No, not really." Coco answered with a shrug, making Kairo let out a sigh of relief through his nose. "He just took me by surprise. That’s why the wall is all ruined."
"All ruined?" Kairo repeated, blinking owlishly.
Coco smiled and pointed at the wall behind her, making the hybrid look past her to see what she was pointing at.
A gasp escaped his lips when he spotted the brown wall, eyes widening.
"Coco!" Heiren screamed right behind the hybrid, causing Coco to tilt her head to look past the beautiful man in front of her. "Oh, thank goodness! You’re okay!"
The mediator pushed past Kairo and quickly wrapped his arms around her, making Coco tense because she felt his heart was beating fast in his chest, like he had been running for a long time and had decided to take a break just now.
"What’s wrong?" Coco asked, her eyebrows furrowing in worry.
"What’s wrong?" Heiren repeated her question with an incredulous tone before pulling himself away from embracing her. "You got attacked! I heard from your mother! Are you okay? Did you get hurt somewhere?"
"I’m fine." Coco hummed, but Heiren didn’t believe her and spun her around to check her body for any wounds.
"I know you can take care of yourself and all, but sometimes, you’re so stubborn and don’t notice that you’re in a bad condition!" The mediator grumbled, his fingers trembling as he raised the hem of her shirt to check her stomach.
Then, his heart skipped a beat when he spotted a bruise on her skin.
"C-Coco!" Heiren cried out, his eyes glossing with tears as he pushed her shirt back down. "You have a bruise! How can you say that you’re fine?! You’re hurt—"
"She has a bruise?!"
Heiren couldn’t finish what he was saying because another voice cut through the air and he recognized that it was Zaque’s voice, his tone heavy with worry and hurry.
"She has a b-bruise." Heiren sniffled, his fingers tightening on the hem of her shirt.
It would have been fine if it was just those normal small bruises that one would get unintentionally, but the bruise he saw on her stomach was large and it was dark— a mark left by whoever had the audacity to attack her.
"I’m fine." Coco laughed nervously, her eyes looking past Heiren’s trembling shoulders to see Cleora, Zaque, and Alhai rushing inside the house.
"I’m really fine!" Coco exclaimed, raising her voice this time to let them hear her.
"Let me see the goddamn bruise!" Cleora hissed, her voice cracking slightly as he pushed Heiren aside and grabbed Coco’s shirt, lifting it up herself to look at how bad the bruising was.
"Oh, dear.." Cleora gasped quietly, her heart breaking at the sight of the said bruise.
"Mother, please move." Zaque breathed out, his voice trembling as he forced himself to stay calm because he didn’t want to come off as rude towards his mother-in-law.
Cleora didn’t have to be told twice.
She pulled her hand away and let Coco’s shirt fall down into its original state before spinning in her heels and stomping her way out of the house— off to do god knows what.
As soon as Cleora left Coco’s side, Zaque and Alhai rushed forward.
"What happened?" Alhai asked his wife, letting Zaque inspect the state of their wife’s body and focusing on interrogating her instead. "Renaldo and Jonathan told us that you got attacked, but they didn’t go into details."
"I’m fine." Coco repeated the two words for nth time, her lips curling up into a wary smile. "I knocked the guy out—"
Zaque raised a hand and brushed his fingers on her skin, only for him to earn a hiss of pain from Coco and unintentionally cut her off from what she was saying.
"You’re not fine." The red haired mediator stated bluntly, his tone a matter of fact as he glanced at her. "Stop lying to our face, please. We can see clearly that the bruise hurts, Coco. You don’t have to lie to us."
"I wasn’t lying—" Coco grumbled, trying to defend herself, but she was cut off once again.
"Let me heal her!" Cleora shouted as she bolted back inside the house, hurriedly making her way to her daughter’s side. "I’ll heal her first, then we’ll depart after."
"Pardon?" Alhai perked up, eyes widening.
"We’re going to leave tonight." Cleora repeated and grabbed Coco by the wrist, urging her inside the nearest room which happened to be Kairo’s bedroom.
The mother and daughter duo rushed inside, making the others trail behind them.
When they went inside, they immediately noticed that the room was already empty— saved for the bed and the empty bedside drawer that had its drawer pulled out.
"I’ll see to it that the man would spill what that damn Baroness Hughes told him to do." Cleora gritted out, forcing Coco down onto the mattress.
"The Baroness?" Kairo croaked out, his throat tightening up at the name.
"Yeah." Coco confirmed the hybrid’s clarification, her breathing turning slightly ragged when she felt the familiar disgusting sensation of her mother’s healing slime, or whatever it is.
"The man said something about me breaking the Baroness’ order before he punched me— ow, mama!" Coco whined, her body flinching when her mother pressed a little too hard on the sore spot. "Can you please be gentler? This is not how you treat patients."
"Patients?" Cleora shot a pointed glare at Coco. "You kept insisting that you were fine. I decided to believe you because you can handle yourself, but I guess it was my mistake."
Coco could only keep her mouth shut and not retort, knowing full well that she will make her mother even more upset than she is now.
"Mother, can you tell us what you mean by we’ll be leaving tonight..?" Heiren asked, deciding to ignore their flinching wife for a moment and focus on digging for more information.
"Coco’s not safe here, neither are all of you."
