Chapter 653: The worries after the attack [3]

"Is this why my room is empty?" Kairo asked, his head turning away from Cleora to look around.

"Yes." Cleora answered and kept her hand pressed on Coco’s stomach, eyes barely glancing at the hybrid. "But my people weren’t the ones who emptied out your rooms."

"Then who?" Alhai inquired, eyebrows furrowing.

"I did." Coco spoke up and was quickly followed by a pained groan. "Mama, that hurts—"

"Deal with it." Cleora grumbled, eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. "If you didn’t lie to my face earlier, then this would have been healed already, but no! You just have to lie and wait for it to be worse."

"It’s not like I wanted to lie.." Coco mumbled, averting her gaze from her mother’s judging eyes.

"Really?" Cleora raised an eyebrow, her hand sliding up on Coco’s stomach for her healing slime to start working on the darkening bruise there. "So it was my fault you lied then?"

"No?" Coco answered, frowning.

"Then deal with it and keep your lips shut, young lady." Cleora hissed, shooting her beloved child a menacing glare.

Coco groaned again, but didn’t say anything else.

"Anyway, I’m planning to have a conversation with Baroness Hughes." Cleora stated and turned away from Coco to look at the husbands. "But I can’t do that if Coco’s here. I don’t trust the people around all of you."

"So.. We’re going to head north instead?" Heiren mumbled, his face twisting into a frown. "I don’t think we have enough money to buy a house, mother."

Heiren didn’t care about the fact that Coco decided on her own that they will be leaving the main city, but he cared about where they will be staying and how heavy it would be for Coco’s pocket because he already knows that Coco wouldn’t let them pay for anything.

Ever since she took over Coco Hughes’ body, she had never let them bring out the money they earned and gave them money to spend instead, all the while sending food to the house.

She made sure that whatever she brought for her would be cooked and used, so the money she gave them was used for their own things.

She was meticulous when it came to them. What would change about that admirable sense of responsibility of hers now? Especially when they are all in danger?

For all he knows, she probably wouldn’t let them take a step outside of the house and protect them— even if she was the target of Baroness Hughes. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Just thinking about Coco being stubborn and not staying put inside the house with them already gives Heiren a more painful headache.

Cleora spoke up, her words making the husbands, along with the future husband, let out a sigh.

"I didn’t ask any one of you, even my own daughter, about money, did I?" Cleora raised an eyebrow, sassiness seeping out of her voice. "All I care about is making sure that Coco will be safe."

Cleora forced her attention back to her daughter’s stomach and lifted her palm for a short moment, when she spotted that there was no more sight of the bruise on her skin— she quickly pulled her hand away.

"I know for sure that woman will use the five of you to lure her out." The older woman stated and got off the bed, turning her whole body to face the four men standing by the doorway.

"Actually, no." She backtracked with a frown. "I’m taking her friends with us as a precaution, too."

Kairo blinked. "Is.. Is that why Renaldo thanked you? Because you told him and Jonathan that the three of them will be coming with us to the north?"

"Frankly so." Cleora nodded, stepping forward and causing the four men to start backing away from the doorway to let her through. "Since the attack happened just earlier today, if we leave tonight, those who were told to keep an eye on Coco may notice it a little too late."

"What does that mean, mama?" Coco asked, sitting up on the mattress.

"It means that there might be other people that might launch the next attack soon." Cleora stated as she walked out of the room, but she paused and looked at Coco over her shoulder.

"It might happen tonight or anytime in the future, so I have to be extra careful." She added before walking past the husbands.

"Keep an eye on her." The woman called over her shoulder, speaking directly to her daughter’s spouse and lover. "We’ll wait for the other children and Quizen, then we’ll leave. For now, accompany her inside."

Zaque and the others watched Cleora disappear outside, their brain comprehending all the information they had heard for the past ten minutes.

Coco sighed and the sound caught Alhai’s attention, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"Alright, guys.. Only this room is empty because Kairo didn’t have anything except for his clothes." Coco started and shifted her weight on the bed. "The other rooms upstairs still have a couple of things inside, why don’t you check it out and carry it down here?"

"What did you pack?" Alhai asked and walked inside the room, stopping right in front of her to place his palm on her cheek.

"Me?" Coco blinked as she leaned into his hand. "Well, not much. It was just the clothes that Sinclair bought for me.. Those were ridiculously expensive, you know?"

"What about my things?" Alhai hummed, his teal colored eyes softening.

"I packed all of your clothes inside your bag and stored it in my inventory." Coco looked up at him, her lips curling into a smile. "You had some books I bought for you, so I asked mama’s people to store those in the wagon with us."

"If that’s the case, then I don’t have to check my room." Alhai leaned down and pressed his lips on her forehead. "Whatever you packed for me is enough."

"Really?" Coco blinked, her eyebrows creasing. "What about those trinkets you have at the corner of your room?"
