Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Enduring the Pain

That night in the mountain villa, those things he said to her, about not needing his family’s approval.

He was so seriously ill, yet kept it from everyone, didn’t even want his own parents to know.

And those subtle clues from long ago.

They were all telling Scarlett Shaw that Julian Ford’s relationship with his family wasn’t as flawless and harmonious as it appeared to outsiders—in fact, it might even be suffocating.

The feelings between parents and children are always the deepest, the hardest bonds to sever.

Just like her own fight with Serena Ford—even now, in the deepest part of her heart, she still held onto that tiny hope that they might reconcile someday. Let alone someone like Julian Ford, who’d been raised by his parents since childhood.

So, compared to being Julian Ford’s girlfriend openly, Scarlett felt that what mattered more was Julian’s own situation and feelings.

"Yo, isn’t this Jasper Spencer’s cousin’s little shadow?"

The door to the room beside them was suddenly slammed open from the inside, and out staggered a young man in his early twenties, tall and skinny, swaying as he walked, his smile twisted strangely.

Yana Yarrow recognized him and pulled Scarlett behind her, her voice cold. "Liam Spencer, what the hell are you talking about?"

The smile on Liam Spencer’s face snapped into one of furious shame, his whole expression twisted as he spat, "Filthy slut! Bitch! You want me to fuck you right now? Huh, do you believe I won’t?"

Yana’s brows knitted. "What kind of crazy are you on?"

Liam Spencer was the walking cliché of a spoiled, useless heir in the Spencer Family—he never did a damn thing, was basically incompetent, but he was never enough trouble for the family to bother with him. Eventually, they just stopped caring and let him do whatever he wanted.

Yana always thought he was just a layabout, but this—today, he seemed possessed, like he’d seen a ghost. There was something seriously off here.

"Eldest Miss Yarrow, you’re into my cousin? How boring. My cousin’s got some freaky tastes; he likes married women like Miss Sutton."

Liam gave an evil smirk, perverted and just plain disgusting.

"Why don’t you come in? I’ll show you what real ecstasy is—guarantee you’ll forget about my cousin in no time. Oh, looks like you brought a friend too, perfect for a threesome! You’ll both be screaming, trust me!"

Yana didn’t reply—instead, she slapped Liam Spencer hard across the face.

"Watch your filthy mouth—you want me to report you to Old Master Spencer? Get lost!"

Liam Spencer reeled from the slap, eyes bloodshot, cursed even filthier, then suddenly spun back into the room.

There was a loud "crash."

The sound of glass shattering.

Scarlett felt there was something seriously wrong with Liam Spencer. Who the hell would have the guts to say such shameless crap in a place like this?

Josiah Sutton might have a good temper, but that doesn’t mean he’s a pushover. Liam acting out like this was basically saying fuck you to the Sutton Family.

She grabbed Yana’s wrist, was just about to turn and leave, when—right then—Liam, grinning manically, suddenly lunged out of the room, swinging the shattered half of a beer bottle behind them.

The beer bottle was smashed in half.

The jagged half, deadly sharp, was thrust straight towards the back of Yana’s neck.

First floor, main hall.

Josiah Sutton was discussing business with Julian Ford when Julian suddenly frowned, glancing around at the crowd.

Josiah said, "Scarlett was just with Yana, probably went off to play somewhere. This place has all sorts of amenities; you could party for three days straight and still not finish."

Julian made a sound in agreement, paused a moment, then got up to look for Scarlett.

Josiah’s phone suddenly rang.

"Speak of the devil." Josiah glanced at the caller ID. "It’s Yana."

But the call lasted no more than ten seconds—Josiah’s friendly face instantly turned grim as he looked at Julian and said, voice heavy:

"Scarlett’s on the third floor. She’s hurt."

As soon as he spoke, Julian was already striding off toward the third floor, his expression cold as ice.

Scarlett leaned weakly against the corridor wall, holding her right wrist out straight to keep more blood from spilling from her inner wrist.

But that strike Liam took at Yana—he was totally out of his mind.

The instant Scarlett glimpsed Liam snapping like that, she instinctively shoved Yana aside. Her reaction was no match for a man of six foot; her wrist was cut despite her quick move.

Broken glass jammed into her skin—blood gushed out in a flood, sharp shards embedded in the flesh.

When Julian Ford arrived on the third floor, the first thing he saw was Scarlett, lips bone-white with pain, doubled slightly at the waist, barely hanging on.

Blood dripped from the inside of her wrist, splattering from her skin, so soft it looked like tofu, onto the floor.

Yana was gripped tightly by Liam Spencer, who still clutched half a bloody beer bottle, his other hand trying to force its way inside Yana’s shirt.

"Yana..."

Scarlett gestured to Julian Ford, telling him she was okay, not to worry about her for now.

As Liam’s fingers brushed Yana’s collar, an icy chill filled the space behind him—before he could react, Julian kicked him straight back into the room.

"Call the police."

Julian told Yana.

"Tell them there’s drug use here."

Julian tossed out those words, then stepped into the room, slamming the door behind him. The corridor, still thick with blood, suddenly went eerily quiet.

Yana and Scarlett stared at each other in shock at Julian’s words.

No wonder Liam Spencer was so out of his skull—turns out he’d been holed up in there getting high.

From the nearest stairwell came the thunder of footsteps—Josiah Sutton arrived with a squad of security. Seeing Scarlett’s bleeding wrist, Josiah hurried over, pulling disinfectant and gauze from the medical kit to treat and bandage her.

The security team charged into the room.

But just as they reached the doorway in formation, the door swung open from inside.

Julian Ford tossed Liam Spencer out like he was garbage.

Everyone sucked in their breath.

This wasn’t just a beating—it was a full-on attempt to kill the guy!

Liam lay sprawled on the floor, barely breathing, looking like a maggot, clothes torn and shredded, face a swollen, bruised mess, not a single feature left untouched. Curled up in agony, he writhed like he wanted to disappear.

Julian’s eyes were icy cold—he didn’t even spare a glance at the heap of trash on the floor.

The security guards moved fast, immediately hauling Liam Spencer away.

The injury on Scarlett’s wrist looked scary, but thankfully it was only a flesh wound, and Josiah Sutton, being a skilled surgeon, quickly pulled out the glass shards and started bandaging her up.

When Julian Ford came over, Scarlett reached out and grabbed his hand first.

"I’m okay now."

She pulled his hand to her face, nuzzled it intimately.

She might be the one hurt tonight, but right now, Scarlett felt her boyfriend needed peace of mind way more than she did.

Julian didn’t say a word the whole time. Once Josiah had finished dressing the wound, Julian took Scarlett by the hand without another word and started to leave the estate.

The third-floor elevator opened just then. Jasper Spencer finally arrived, having heard the whole story—Zoe Sutton was right behind him. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Scarlett’s okay, right?"

Jasper’s face had gone white as a sheet.
