Chapter 490 - 78: Entei
"What do you mean?" Ash, Misty, and Brock exchanged confused glances at Morty's cryptic response. "Yes and no" was an ambiguous answer, leaving them puzzled.
Morty nodded solemnly before explaining, "A hundred and fifty years ago, my ancestor brought three Pokémon—Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon—into the Bell Tower to attack the Sea Guardian, Lugia."
The group listened intently as Morty continued. "By all accounts, when the Bell Tower was consumed by flames, those three Pokémon perished alongside their trainer. However, when Ho-Oh later resurrected them, the Pokémon reborn were Entei, Raikou, and Suicune."
Brock's eyes widened in realization. "So, you're saying the legendary beasts—Entei, Raikou, and Suicune—might have once been your ancestor's Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon?"
Morty hesitated before responding. "It's possible," he admitted. "But there's no definitive proof. That's why I said, 'yes and no.' Even though the three Eevee evolutions share elemental traits with the three holy beasts, there's no way to confirm their origins."
Ash pondered this information. He remembered hearing urban legends about the legendary beasts in his previous life.
Many speculated that the trio was resurrected from Eevee evolutions, citing their elemental affinities and abilities.
In fact, before the Sun and Moon era, the hidden abilities of Entei, Raikou, and Suicune—Flash Fire, Volt Absorb, and Water Absorb—closely mirrored the standard abilities of Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon.
It wasn't until later that their abilities were changed to Inner Focus, making the truth even murkier.
"I see now," Ash said thoughtfully. "It's a mystery that might never be solved."
Morty's expression grew wistful. "I can only hope that one day, Lugia and Ho-Oh return to Ecruteak City. It would restore the city's former glory and heal the pain caused by my ancestor's transgressions."
Ash and his friends exchanged sympathetic looks. They could feel the weight of Morty's burden—a descendant of those who had angered the gods, now striving to atone for the sins of the past.

The group began leaving the Burned Tower, but Pikachu suddenly stopped in its tracks, its ears twitching.
"What's wrong, Pikachu?" Ash asked, noticing the unusual behavior. A strange feeling welled up in his chest, compelling him to turn around.
Standing on the wreckage of the second floor was a majestic Pokémon with a fiery presence.
Its orange-red fur glowed under the light, and iron rings adorned its powerful limbs. Behind it, a mane resembling drifting white clouds billowed gracefully, partially concealing sharp brown fur underneath.
A red, star-shaped crest sat between its piercing eyes, and a golden plate adorned its forehead.
"Entei!" Brock exclaimed, recognizing the guardian beast of Ho-Oh.

Morty gasped in astonishment. "Entei! Does this mean Ho-Oh has forgiven us? Have the gods chosen to return?"
Entei's gaze passed over Morty, momentarily filled with an emotion difficult to discern, before locking onto Ash.
There was a peculiar intensity in its eyes, one Ash recognized from his encounter with Suicune in New Bark Town.
"Entei! Does this mean Ho-Oh has sent you to guide us?" Morty stepped forward eagerly, hope shining in his expression.
However, Entei remained silent, its focus unwaveringly on Ash. Annoyed by Morty's presumptuousness, it gave a dismissive flick of its head, sending a wave of force that pushed Morty backward, knocking him to the ground near the entrance.
Though uninjured, Morty looked both startled and chastened.
"Relax," Ash said, raising a hand to calm Misty and Brock, who were growing visibly tense. "I think I know what Entei wants."
Fire energy began to gather around Entei, filling the air with a tangible heat. Sparks danced and coalesced into a glowing orb of flames in front of the legendary Pokémon.
Within moments, the orb condensed into a crystalline shape—a diamond-like shard glowing with a fiery red hue. Within the crystal, a flame-like rune flickered, representing the Fire element.
Entei gave a slight nod, sending the crystal floating toward Ash. He caught it carefully, feeling the faint warmth radiating from the Z-Crystal. It wasn't searing, but instead comforting, like a small hearth in the palm of his hand.
"Entei..." Morty murmured, watching in awe.
After delivering the crystal, Entei surveyed the group one last time before leaping gracefully out of sight, disappearing into the remnants of the Burned Tower.
"Entei—!" Morty cried out, running after it, but the legendary Pokémon was already gone.
Ash, Misty, and Brock stared at the Z-Crystal in Ash's hand. Misty spoke up first, her voice filled with awe. "First Suicune, and now Entei... Do you think Ho-Oh is choosing you for something, Ash?"
Ash didn't answer immediately, his mind replaying the encounters he'd had with the legendary beasts.
He now possessed Waterium-Z from Suicune and Firium-Z from Entei, along with Ho-Oh's sacred feather. It wasn't just a coincidence—there was something larger at play.
Morty, still shaken, turned to Ash. "Ash... I don't know what this means, but I feel like you hold the key to Ecruteak's future. Please, if you ever discover what the gods intend, let us know."
Ash nodded solemnly, tucking the crystal safely away. "I will. I promise."
