Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 696: Uncle, Part 3
Jimmy Horne was smart, but at the age of four, he still couldn't quite grasp all the complexities.
"My mommy said my daddy went to a very, very remote place, with no electricity, no cars, and no phones. Uncle, your place isn't far, isn't remote, has electricity, has cars, and you can make phone calls. So, you definitely aren't my daddy. However, since you look a lot like me, I don't dislike you. You should go ask my mommy to let you be my godfather," Jimmy Horne said at the end, his tone almost charitable.
Noah Reyes didn't know whether to laugh or cry, and his heart clenched even more painfully. He knew who she was and where she was; he knew about his son's existence. Now he had even seen his son and held him, but his son didn't believe he was his daddy. And what about her? What would her reaction be? Would she blame him, hate him? Or would she not have the slightest impression, the slightest feeling for him?
"Jimmy," Noah Reyes called out in a hoarse voice, once again pressing Jimmy's small body into his embrace.
Right now, anything he said was useless. Only after meeting Adele Horne, and Adele telling their son the truth, could father and son truly acknowledge each other. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Julia Bluen stood up, walked over to Noah Reyes, and said coolly, "Mr. Reyes, I think you've achieved your goal; you've learned what you wanted from me. It's getting late. You should let me and Billy Horne go home now. Billy's mommy is still waiting at home. She and Billy have relied on each other for many years, and she's endured so many grievances. She faced such terrible rumors when she gave birth to him. If Billy goes missing, she'll be frantic with worry; she'll be heartbroken."
She had been watching the father and son the entire time, taking in Noah Reyes's every reaction, every expression. Although she was happy that Billy Horne's biological father had finally found him, she couldn't ignore that Noah Reyes and the Valence Group were adversaries. Noah Reyes's methods were too forceful, too domineering! Her husband would probably not let Noah Reyes acknowledge Billy Horne easily. And then there was Adele Horne. She knew Adele hated Noah Reyes. In Adele's room, there were still papers with the name 'Reyes' pinned up, riddled with dart holes—that was Adele's way of venting her resentment. Fate truly plays tricks on people. Whether or not to tell Billy Horne that Noah Reyes was his biological father—that wasn't her decision to make. She needed to take Billy home and let Adele Horne decide. After all, this concerned the three of them.
Julia Bluen's words also indirectly conveyed to Noah Reyes that Adele Horne might not forgive him. Regardless of his attitude towards Adele Horne, Adele wouldn't let Billy Horne go with him.
Noah Reyes hugged Jimmy Horne tightly again, then plucked several strands of Jimmy's hair, complete with their follicles. He wasn't blinded by excitement; he knew he needed a DNA test. Even though he was convinced in his heart that Jimmy Horne was his son, he had to be prepared in case Adele Horne denied it. He didn't know how Adele Horne felt about him, but he would do his utmost to soothe the resentment and grievances in her heart. If that didn't work, he would present the evidence and start with his son.
"Ow, Uncle, why are you pulling my hair? I'm going to pull yours too!" Jimmy Horne wasn't one to suffer losses; taken by surprise when Noah Reyes pulled his hair, he immediately retaliated without courtesy.
Noah Reyes winced in pain but kept a straight face, allowing Jimmy to pull at his hair.
Julia Bluen chuckled inwardly. This kid, always sparring with Camila Ruiz, constantly showed his feisty nature. But… she thought, glancing at Noah Reyes, it seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Noah Reyes looked at Julia Bluen and said apologetically, "Mrs. Horne, I'm terribly sorry for having you brought here like this. Right now, Glades Horne is outside with police officers. I suspect that after you leave, the police will definitely storm in. I came to Syrena mainly to find Adele Horne and inadvertently clashed with the Valence Group. Nothing I say now will make a difference, but I'd like to ask you, for Billy Horne's sake, to help smooth things over tonight."
Noah Reyes stood up, released Jimmy Horne, and then took the boy's hand. He desperately wanted to keep Jimmy with him, but Julia Bluen's words had also struck a chord. Acknowledging his son, pursuing his wife… all of it had to be done slowly. Right now, the first thing he had to do was send his son back to Adele Horne, his future wife, to ease her worries. But he also needed to defuse the tense standoff outside. His actions would undoubtedly be considered kidnapping. Glades Horne wouldn't let him off easily. To prevent the police from storming in, to avoid being arrested for kidnapping, and to placate Glades Horne, Julia Bluen absolutely had to be the one to resolve this.
That was why he hadn't immediately let Julia Bluen go after learning Silvia Baxter had abducted his son. He admitted he had been inconsiderate and impulsive in this matter. But when he saw Julia Bluen's photo and learned her identity, his only thought was to find out Adele Horne's identity and whereabouts immediately. The moment he saw his son's picture, he was overwhelmed by such immense joy that he couldn't think of anything else—only his son! He was the leader of the Flame Gate; impulsiveness was forbidden for him. Yet, no matter how formidable or composed he was, he was still a mortal, subject to the normal human emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure. After dreaming for so many years and searching for several months, he had suddenly confirmed his son's existence. He felt his impulsiveness was quite normal under the circumstances. Of course, the consequences of his lack of consideration and impulsiveness were extremely serious: a direct, face-to-face confrontation with his adversary, Glades Horne. As for this future brother-in-law, he had no idea how much time it would take to earn his approval. And this future sister-in-law was his brother-in-law's Achilles' heel; everything depended on her.
It could be said that Noah Reyes was very astute and shrewd. When dealing with Glades Horne, he knew to use Julia Bluen as leverage first. Now, he understood he needed to use Julia Bluen to defuse the standoff outside, appealing to her for Jimmy Horne's sake.
Julia Bluen looked at him coolly. After hearing his words, she didn't give him a clear answer—neither agreeing nor refusing to help. She simply bent down to Jimmy Horne and said, "Come, Jimmy, your aunt will take you out. Your uncle is waiting for us outside." Then she picked up Jimmy Horne and turned to leave.
Noah Reyes reluctantly stepped forward, reaching out to take Jimmy Horne from Julia Bluen's arms. "Let me hold him," he said gently. He wished he could be with his son every moment. Reflecting on his thirty-seven years, soon to be thirty-eight, he had always been cold, ruthless, unfeeling. Only now did he realize he also had a tender side. The familial affection he had yearned for most deeply was now alive and vibrant right before his eyes.
Julia Bluen released her hold, allowing him to take Jimmy Horne.
