Raised From The Wild-Chapter 389: Dark Phoenix in Troubled Water
On the fifth day after the Crystal Hotel incident, the Dark Phoenix organization was in a precarious situation. What they thought was an opportunity to gain the upper hand had become their doom.
The antiviral medication they once believed would bring them wealth became a financial burden, a costly and unprofitable investment.
Gray Pharmaceutical faced backlash after being accused of deliberately increasing the prices of their antiviral medication, resulting in widespread outrage from both online and offline communities.
In addition, the Pharmaceutical company was also associated with the Dark Phoenix Organization, which sparked the public’s anger and a call to boycott the century-old company’s products.
"Grandpa, if you wish to restore Gray Pharmaceutical’s reputation, consider selling the antiviral drug at a reasonable price, or even better, consider donating them to the hospitals still dealing with high numbers of Octa Virus cases."
The old man wearing black-rimmed glasses was visibly upset as he glared at the young man with gray eyes similar to his on the other side of the mahogany table.
"Brother, do you wish the company to become bankrupt? Do you know how much we invested in that antiviral drug?" Ethan Gray, the eldest grandson of the pharma magnate, Mason Gray, and Stephane’s half-brother, said mockingly.
"Who wanted this company to go bankrupt? I warned all of you two days ago to stop production of the antiviral drug because Nower Research Institute had released a medicine that can cure the disease. But you didn’t listen. So, who is causing the company to lose money now?" Stephane glared at Ethan.
The room fell silent as the tension mounted. Despite the existing problem, the two half-siblings continued to argue, much to the disapproval of the board members.
"Enough! We already have this problem, and the two of you still have the audacity to fight? Stephane, let us do as you say."
Stephane’s suggestion garnered unanimous support as the patriarch’s decisive voice rang out, leaving no room for dissent among the nine men gathered around the expansive table."
Ethan Gray looked at Stephane with malice and hate. He did not understand why his grandfather would listen to him.
Ethan’s tone remained civil as he spoke, but his eyes revealed his true feelings. "Don’t you have connections at Lireya? Why don’t you use your clout there and get us the exclusive right to distribute their immune booster medicine here in Uropa?"
Mason Gray turned his head to his younger grandson. He wanted to minimize their losses, and they could do that if they were the exclusive distributor of ImunifyMax.
Stephane lowered his head and did not answer. He was surprised to discover that the miracle drug used to combat the infection of the Octa Virus was produced by the pharmaceutical owned by Princess Amaya and Marx’s friend.
Mason Gray sighed. "Try your best to get in touch with the owner of that company in Lireya. You’ve stayed there long, and I hope it is not for naught."
Stephane raised his head and answered respectfully. "I will try my best, Grandpa."
After the board meeting concluded, as the other attendees filtered out of the room, only Stephane and Ethan remained. At that moment, a sneer formed on Ethan’s face, betraying a hint of his true feelings.
"There is only the two of us. You don’t have to pretend. You have already predicted this outcome since three days ago, right?"
Stephane stared at his half-brother coldly. The corner of his lips curled slightly, but he did not say anything.
Ethan clenched his fist. "I knew it! Damn it! You manipulated us! You made those comments during the last emergency meeting, and you know I would do the opposite of what you proposed."
Stephane’s eyebrows rose. "What are you saying, brother? Don’t speculate and slander me." After saying his piece, he turned around and exited the room.
When he was in the hallway, a glint crossed his eyes. Why should he care? The rise and fall of the Gray family has nothing to do with him.
He proceeded to the elevator and impatiently pressed the button several times.
He was lost in thought when the elevator door opened, and a beautiful lady with clear blue eyes and blonde hair, wearing a dark red dress, appeared in his line of sight.
"Stephane! What a pleasant surprise!"
...
At the Nower Institute, Princess Amaya had just returned from a visit to Prince Raquim, who was returning to Albanya that day, when Ren sent her an urgent message.
Ren: "Sis, you will not believe this. A mission was placed in the dark web’s PhantomHaven. They are looking for Marx Skylar."
Ren knew how important Marx Skylar was to Princess Amaya. He was the reason why the Princess learned programming and hacking.
The phone in the Princess’s hand slipped. Thankfully, she was facing the bed and standing at the edge when it dropped, so it fell on the soft mattress.
Her heart raced and her complexion turned pale. With trembling hands, she picked up the phone and re-read Ren’s message a few times. Her hand shook and it took her a long time to complete a short message for Ren.
Amaya: "Do you know the identity of the person who created the mission? Why would they ask for Marx? Does that mean Marx is alive?"
Through the message, the young Ren could feel his sister’s conflicting emotions of excitement and fear.
Ren: "I cannot uncover the identity of the person, Sis. Sorry about that. But I tracked the location of the IP address used by that person. It is in Uropa."
Amaya: "Uropa? Can you pinpoint the city?"
Ren’s reply came in fast.
Ren: "It is in the south of the Capital City."
Amaya: "Send me the location."
After a few seconds, Amaya’s cell phone dinged. Ren sent her the approximate location of the IP address.
In the late afternoon, Princess Amaya left Nower Research Institute and went to another hotel. It was a small three-story hotel known for its homey ambiance. The hotel strictly implemented the No Mask, No Entry policy, which worked well for her.
Princess Amaya waited in the lobby as Layla settled the check-in procedure for her. She used another identity, that of a college student, Mira, from Lireya, who went on a tour to watch the Battle of the Titans but was stranded because of the pandemic. Layla posed as her sister and her bodyguards as their tour companions.
Ren has warned her to be careful, as those who would take the mission would look into Marx’s background and learn about his involvement with the former CEO of the Skylar Conglomerate.
The Princess asked Ren to leak the news that she had already returned to Aeseana with the Crown Prince of Albanya. She was under quarantine in her palace at Verde Island in Lireya.
At the same time, rumors started to spread that she would be the future Crown Princess of Albanya, as she and Prince Raquim had been betrothed since they were children.
She needed a cover for what she intended to do, which was quite dangerous.
