Chapter 61: 61. After Three Months

61. After Three Months

Over time he had developed pale skin, his curly white hair had grown reaching down to his shoulder, his face had becone more angular and handsome. His pointy ears poked out of his ear, on his right ear was a single oval blue gem hooked to a small chain that was hanging off his ear. He had chosen to wear his uncle’s earrings which he believed to be a symbol of his accomplishment.

He had a thick fur jacket over himself and a pair of thick black trousers. He set out in a rush his pair of thick boots accompanying him on the icy mountain terrain. On his back was a quiver of arrows and a bow he had crafted himself, they were not durable but were enough for a long diatance battle or diversion. On his side was his longsword gleaming in the light like a legendary weapon that had seen heaven and hell. He had ordered Snow to scout ahead for any game he could find and it stopped in the air and started circling a certain spot.

From it’s eye view Eryndor could see a lone mountain wolf sitting under a ledge licking it’s paw. He loves killing outcasts, much easier than a pack. Eryndor played the routine he had carefully practiced over a hundred times and darted across the icy forest like a speeding bullet only using the first as cover for a second before darting out to the nearest tree. The wolf was oblivious to this fact for a while and when it raised its head to survey the environment Eryndor dissolved into thin air, after a few minutes Eryndir saw it had turned its attention back at its paw from Snow’s eye view.

He reappeared from behind the tree he had been hiding behind and dashed forward much faster than before. He watched the white fur mountain wolf begin to raise its head prompting him to quicken it’s pace. As it raised its head he knew he only had a split second to react and his hand moved effortlessly in the movement as if perfected by years of practice, he sliced cleanly through the beasts neck. He had honed his small frame to be able to perform such a feat.

It’s head slid off it’s body and fell to the ground, a thick puddle of red flowed out of its neck and melting the small patches of snow under it.

Snow praised him from the sky by hooting loudly but it sounded like she was mocking the dead beast. She hovered down to meet her master but he was gone, this gave her a moment of shock before someone pummelled her to the ground from behind.

Eryndor laughed happily at his easiest kill yet but Snow was disheartened by his prank and proceeded to attack him in rage.

"Ow, sorry Snow. I couldn’t resist you adorable face." Eryndor said playfully.

Snow gave him a disapproving hoot before deciding to perch herself on his shoulder. "Fine, old man Thalvarin never fattened me up when I did good. Just thinking about him gives me the shivers."

Eryndor shivered evidently as he moved over to the wolf with a small curved dagger to carve out huge chunks of its meat and it’s beast core. When he was done he let out a sigh and cursed under his breath.

He hissed and resisted the urge to send the small bead flying over the edge of the mountain. The amount of magic points he had gotten from the dormant cores of normal beasts had dropped below half it’s original effectiveness. Snow poked his head and gave a low hoot. Eryndor gave another heavy sigh and said. "You’re right silver, it’s better than nothing."

He did not spend long there before saying back to the owl. "How long till the storm hits?"

Snow had alerted him of a coming storm much earlier, she led him him for hours till they found a small cave up one of the surrounding cliffs. It looked like it had been dug out by something that used to live there long ago. And that left him agitated.

After taking his time to confirm the safety of the place with his left eye he began to relax. "Thank you for the shelter Snow, I don’t know what I would have done without you." With his trusted ally He could not relax in peace.

He took out the beast core and consumed it in an instant.

[You have consumed a dormant beast core

Eryndor weakly gazed at the information that appeared shortly after.

On seeing his his mana point Eryndor pulled his hair and screamed out in agony. "What the hell, so damn close to 1000. What kind of bad luck is this?" He already wanted to face the mountain wolf king when he was at 1000 magic points or over. "Unto the next page then." He said without any interest.

After going through everything Eryndor sighed and resisted the urge to punch himself again. Instead he relaxed and said with a clear distaste in his voice. "Why am I so damn mid. It’s been a whole year now and I feel like I’m still at the starting point."

He willed the third page to appear and it did, spelling out the words to him.
